Venango - Kanapolis Campground

This Army Corps of Engineers campground operates seasonally from late April through December, accommodating RVs up to 65 feet with full hookups available at select sites. Located within the Kanopolis Recreation Area, the facility provides drive-in, walk-in, and boat-in access options for different camping preferences.

Site layouts vary considerably across the campground. Lakefront spots along the access road tend to be smaller and less level, while upper sites away from the water offer more space and better leveling for larger rigs. "Everyone I've visited has been clean, spacious and well maintained," notes Doug W. about Corps campgrounds generally. Most sites include electricity, with some also providing water hookups.

The campground experiences lighter crowds during weekdays and shoulder seasons, when campers often find themselves with minimal neighbors. Cell coverage reaches five bars for Verizon users with good data speeds. Restroom facilities receive mixed reviews for cleanliness standards. A playground serves families, and fishing opportunities draw anglers to the adjacent waters.

Campers can explore additional options at nearby Sandyshore Campground — Kanopolis State Park and Yankee Run. The setup works well for RV travelers seeking full hookups and lake access in central Kansas.

Visitors often highlighted the spacious, well-maintained sites and peaceful atmosphere at this COE campground. Many appreciated the friendly staff and good site spacing, though lakefront spots may be less level.

Awesome Overnight Stay, Few People

Stopped here on my way through Kansas towards Colorado. The park was nearly empty on a Sunday night, so I got a nice lakefront site with no one else around for $14.

Only complaint is that the camp attendant wasn't there, so I had to pay for the campsite online. But cell coverage was decent.

COE campgrounds are some of the best

I have come to really like COE campgrounds. Everyone I've visited has been clean, spacious and well maintained. This one is no exception. We stayed in mid week during May and just about had the place to ourselves.

There is plenty of room between sites with well maintained grounds. Most but not all have electricity. Some also have water.

There are sites for any size rig but the larger ones would be better on the site away from the lake. Most of the sites along the road by the lake are small and not very level. The upper ones are much larger and flat.

We had 5 full bars of Verizon with good speeds. This would a good one to hand out for a few days.

For $14 it’s great

Car camped in my Subaru, it was nice and quiet, only half of the sites were filled. Bathrooms are alright, not the cleanest but nothing I haven’t see camping before.
