Within Geode State Park, this DNR-managed campground provides both full hookup sites and basic camping options across open terrain near the park's central lake. Recent upgrades include new shower facilities and full hookup sites accommodating RVs up to 60 feet, though Douglas P. notes the formerly paved roads now feature "hardpack with small loose gravel covering the roadways."
The campground operates from April through December with sites ranging from basic tent spots at $12 per night to full hookup sites. Fire pits come equipped with attached grills, and firewood is available on-site. The lake itself has experienced extended draining periods, with some reviewers reporting closed beach areas and water quality concerns during their visits.
Trail systems circle the lake and extend into wooded areas, providing hiking opportunities and what one reviewer described as good mountain biking terrain. Lon H. found the atmosphere "so peaceful" during a Labor Day weekend stay that he extended his visit an extra night. The park allows pets and accepts reservations for those preferring guaranteed site availability.
For campers wanting additional water access options, Grays Landing sits just over two miles southeast along the Skunk River.
Description
Geode State Park has been a traditional favorite for locals as well as out-of-state visitors. The park is named after the state rock which is frequently found in the area. Geodes bring "rock hounds" to the local area in search of this elusive prize. A display of geodes, with mysterious crystal formations in their hollow cavities, can be seen at the park office. Please remember that it is illegal to remove geodes and other natural materials from state parks, except for mushrooms, nuts, fruits and berries.
Events in the park include Dragon Boat Races (beginning of May), Lake Geode Challenge Triathlon (mid-July) and the Polar Plunge (early November).
The park opens at 4:00 a.m. and closes at 10:30 p.m. daily.
