Five miles south of Ogden, Don Williams Park occupies open terrain alongside a county lake within the Don Williams Recreation Area. The Boone County Conservation Board manages this established campground from April through October, offering both RV sites with full hookups and tent camping areas. Access roads can be rough, particularly after weather events.
The campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet with electric, water, and sewer connections available at hookup sites. Tent campers can choose between lakeside locations and elevated spots on the hill above the water. Basic amenities include restrooms, showers, drinking water, and a dump station. Each site provides a fire ring and picnic table for standard camping needs.
Lake access drives much of the activity here, with fishing and kayaking drawing regular use. The Des Moines River runs nearby, extending paddling opportunities beyond the campground lake. "Great sites right on the lake. Trails, fishing and beautiful lake views," notes Ryan M.. A designated swimming area operates during warmer months. Hiking trails wind through the recreation area's wildlife habitat.
Nightly rates range from $12 to $20 depending on site type and hookup availability. For campers exploring central Iowa's outdoor recreation, sites around Ogden provide additional options within the region. The campground works well for anglers, families seeking lake access, and RV travelers needing full utilities in a county park setting.
