The sound of military aircraft occasionally passes overhead at this forested campground on Scott Air Force Base, where approximately 30 sites accommodate RVs up to 45 feet. Located on the opposite side of the base from most facilities, the campground sits near a lake and provides a notably quiet environment even when full. Sites offer water and both 30 and 50 amp electrical hookups, though leveling blocks prove essential as many spots require adjustment.
One centrally located dump station serves all campers, with a provided black water hose that sees frequent use during busy periods. The facility features upgraded restrooms with standard toilets replacing the previous stainless steel fixtures, plus separate shower buildings. Some sites receive shade from mature trees while others sit in full sun. MGySgt K. notes that "one dump station that is clean, black water hose provided, but used a lot."
Access requires entering through the commissary gate rather than following GPS directions to closed entrances. The nearby golf course operates seasonally with varying hours and serves simple pub food at its cafe. A single soda machine on-site rarely functions according to regular visitors. For additional camping choices, see campgrounds near Mascoutah.
This military campground works well for those prioritizing quiet surroundings and don't mind driving several miles to reach base amenities.
