Most campgrounds in the area require pets to be leashed at all times and owners to clean up after their animals. Wind Willows RV Park accommodates pets in both RV sites and cabins, though some reviewers mention varying enforcement of pet policies among long-term and short-term campers. During summer months, the grassy areas at many campgrounds offer comfortable spaces for pets, while the riverside locations provide natural cooling opportunities. Wildlife encounters are possible in these areas, so keeping dogs leashed helps prevent conflicts with local fauna. Most campgrounds are within 15-20 minutes of veterinary services in Rexburg, making these locations practical for extended stays with pets.

    City of Blackfoot RV Park

Simple spot to stay in Blackfoot

This is for RV parking with electrical hookups for 20 bucks at the airport. 18 hookups and awesome dog park. Also a bike ride away from a very nice park on the lake with lots of play space for kids during the day. No toilets or showers but a simple stay and there is Wal-Mart everything else you need right in town. Blackfoot Wal-Mart does not allow overnight parking. There is water hookup during season. Also free dump station at fire station.

    Sugar City RV Park

    Sugar City RV

Very nice "state of the art" RV Park. Clean showers, nice clothes wash facilities, dog friendly with fenced run area, cat approved by "Liza", just in her trailer trash tabby space. Great access to Tetons and Yellowstone, good shopping overall in Sugar City and nearby Rexburg. But ! It's not boondocking or cheap, so we'll live with it for our Yellowstone and Teton visit

    Grand View Campground (Targhee NF)

    Hidden Gem!

I’ve lived in Idaho Falls almost my whole life and visited Ashton and Island Park countless times and had no idea this was here! I lucked into a first come spot because someone had cancelled their online reservation and was able to stay two nights here. Dog friendly, zero cell service like at all.

I got spot 4, right next to the delightful camp hosts! Electricity at each camp site, two double sites, all the trees you could ever want! A very very quiet and peaceful campground. 10/10. Will be back.

It’s steps away from Lower Mesa Falls! Not far from Ashton if you forget something and close enough to West Yellowstone if you want to stay somewhere further from the park!

    Darby Canyon Dispersed

    Darby

I have not personally spent the night camping here, but I do work for the Forest Service and wanted to give more information about the Darby Canyon dispersed camping sites. I also had a friend stay here for three nights last September and they had a good time. There are about 10~ sites (I will check and edit when I can) all along the canyon road, some are just right off road and others require a short drive down beaten paths to find the sites. All of these sites (except 2 or so very close to the road) are past the cattle guard. Depending on the time of year, many of these sites may not be accessible. Snow typically stays in the canyon until mid-June and starts collecting in October. The area may also be buggy at the height of the summer (July 2024 had been atrocious). There is limited cell service down most of the road and it completely disappears the closer to the Wind Cave trailhead you get. This area has a 14 day stay limit, meaning that once 14 days (13 nights) have been reached you must move at least 5 miles away to continue camping on forest service land and cannot return to this canyon to camp for 30 days. This is in a bear food storage enforced area and any bear attractants (food, pet food, soaps, sunscreen, etc.) are required to be stored properly in a locked hard sided vehicle or other bear resistant containers. Fires are allowed but must be put out dead (cold to the touch) before leaving a campsite. This canyon is regularly patrolled by Forest Service staff and ranger law enforcement officers, especially on the weekends, to keep up with the food storage and fires out dead orders. Hope this helps weary travelers that are deterred by low-rated reviews.

    Grand View Campground (Targhee NF)

Small Idaho gem near the Tetons

This campground and the adjacent Falls were recommended to me by a local, and what a find! The campground was very small(9 sites, I think), quiet, and beautiful. The outhouse and campsites were extremely clean. All sites had electric hookup available; camping fees were $30 with hookup and $15 without. The campground is located on Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, near Ashton, Idaho, and is a short walk to The lower Falls. I will definitely return to camp at this tiny gem.

    Jolley Camper RV & Cottages

Pleasant Family-Owned Campground for Stopover or Basecamp

Context: this is not an RV resort nor a wilderness experience.  It is a pleasant, scenic, rural highway-side campground.  We stayed in early May en route from Bozeman to Moab.  Small pleasant campground near the highway between Yellowstone and SE Idaho sights and Jackson Wyoming.  Small cottonwood shaded sites adjacent to farmland and Teton views.  Clean bathrooms with warm comfortable showers.  The campground is ideal for a stopover or basecamp for visiting the west-side of the Tetons, Craters of the Moon, and other sights in SE Idaho (or passing through on trips between the Greater Yellowstone Region and Utah).  Hookups, wifi, 5G Verizon service.  Only drawbacks, are possible wind and some highway noise.  The owners, living on-site in a beautiful farmhouse, are friendly and accommodating.  It is a trusting handshake type of reservation, payment, and communication system (cash or credit card on site).

UPDATE: as of 2023, online reservation system and payment.  Easy to use.

    Riverside Campground

    Great location in Island Park

This campground is located in the heart of Island Park. Close to a few general stores if you are in need of supplies. Also close to Harriman State Park with plenty of hiking and some of the best birding in Eastern Idaho. Campsite 21A is particularly nice along the river. Campground is only open during the summer months. Wooded sites with plenty of access to the river for fishing or wading.

    Moose Creek Trailhead Dispersed Area

    Literally perfect

The site is close to the highway, but like other reviewers mentioned, all you really hear is the little river running right next to the campsite, which was super peaceful. The river was very cold, but it felt great for a quick dip after a long day hiking in the Tetons. Since Idaho is currently under a burn ban, we couldn’t use the really nice fire pit, but the site did have a bear box which was great for peace of mind. Overall, a very solid camping spot

    Kelly Island Campground

    Nice and Quaint

Very nice and quaint campground. Smaller tent sites and large double tent or trailer sites. Right on the river, good for fishing. Very clean, even the pit toilet bathroom was clean. Nearby to hot springs, off roading/short hikes/mountain or dirt biking trails and areas. Only $5/night with your National Parks Pass. Dog friendly and awesome fire pits (clean and not warped racks for grilling) We will definitely be back.

Guide to Menan

Menan, Idaho sits at an elevation of 4,843 feet, creating mild summer camping conditions with occasional temperature fluctuations. The area features volcanic buttes and river systems that merge near Menan, with the Snake River serving as a primary recreation source for campers. Most campgrounds remain open from May through October, with limited winter accessibility at higher elevations.

What to do

Disc golf access: Beaver Dick Park Campground offers a well-maintained disc golf course right near the camping area. "Disk golf! Excellent short course. Water access from a ramp about 400' from camping," notes Mark F. The course provides a convenient recreation option without leaving the campground.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple access points along the Henry's Fork of the Snake River provide excellent fishing spots. At Warm Slough, campers can fish directly from their sites. "Great place to fish, kayak, or float the river. Some campsites will have a picnic table," reports Miles G.

Water activities: Jefferson County Lake offers clear water perfect for swimming and paddling. "Kids loved playing in the lake. I like the paved trail that goes around the lake for jogging and cycling," writes Nick G. The lake hosts an annual triathlon in mid-July, making it popular with athletic visitors.

What campers like

River proximity: Beaver Dick Park Campground sites offer direct river access from many campsites. "It's right along the snake river, while swimming isn't encouraged you can wade in the water where the boats load. It has gorgeous views with a camp BBQ and small camp sites," states Limna.

Budget-friendly options: Several campgrounds offer affordable camping near Menan. "Easy access, well maintained campground. Perfect for our 14 foot trailer. No water or electric but we're self contained... 10$ a night," shares Dan M. about Beaver Dick Park.

Natural seclusion: Many sites provide privacy despite being established campgrounds. "But Beaver Dick Park is the perfect place to camp if you are looking for a campground that feels safe (close to other campers) while still having your privacy (trees between most campsites)," explains Emily R.

What you should know

Facility maintenance varies: Bathroom conditions can fluctuate at some campgrounds. "My only negative is the bath houses are not kept clean," notes Deborah A. At Warm Slough, "There are 2 pit toilets. The one at the front is truly disgusting. The one further in by the boat launch is clean, but no TP," reports Katie H.

Road noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience highway sounds. About Jefferson County Lake, Christopher G. mentions: "Campground was clean and maintained. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is near the Highway and you can hear the road noise."

Seasonal closures: Check opening dates before planning a trip. Warm Slough has specific camping restrictions: "Great to go float river or fishing. Camping only allowed Oct 1 to Jan 31. 10 days max," advises Johnothan R.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water features: Some areas have designated swimming spots. At Wakeside Lake RV Park, Jack Adrian L. notes: "A very simple RV park, nice shade, easy to access beach on a manmade lake. Staff was super helpful. My only complaint was that their website says there's a playground and I could not find one."

Multiple activities: Pet-friendly camping near Menan, Idaho often includes diverse recreation options. "Playground, picnic, overnight, disc golf, swim, fish, paddle....tons to do," comments Brett G. about Beaver Dick Park, making it ideal for families with varied interests.

Tips from RVers

Hookup information: Mountain River Ranch provides partial hookups for RVers. "Quiet, recently changed owners so some amenities are not available yet. Water and electric, no sewer. There is a nice bath house with showers, no laundry at present," reports charlottehughes1000.

Overflow considerations: Some RV parks can reach capacity during peak season. "We had reservations, but still ended up in an overflow area, with a huge sink hole which we almost backed into," warns Joel R. at Snake River RV Park, suggesting calling ahead during busy periods.

Site conditions: Juniper Group Campsite offers well-maintained spaces for RVs. "Sites are paved, bathrooms are a private toilet, shower, sink combo that are super clean. Full hook-ups are $30 per night... Well-spaced sites, mostly level. Very quiet," Amy B. explains, highlighting the value for RVers seeking pet-friendly camping.
