Mackay Tourist Park

Fishing enthusiasts will find Mackay Tourist Park operates as a county-managed campground that functions on a donation basis rather than fixed fees. This city park setting accommodates both RVs up to 50 feet and tent campers, with drive-in and walk-in access available throughout the grassed area.

The campground features individual fire pits and picnic tables at each site, with mature trees providing shade across most of the main camping area. Lori notes the park offers "free dry camping" with mountain views visible from sites. An overflow area operates when the main section reaches capacity, maintaining the same amenities minus the tree cover. Morning wildlife includes deer that move through the campground regularly.

Restroom facilities and a gazebo serve campers, while the park maintains ADA accessibility and allows pets throughout. Cell service reaches the area consistently. The campground occasionally closes on certain weekdays, so campers should verify availability before arrival. Summer visitors report favorable fishing conditions in the surrounding area.

For additional camping options in the region, see campgrounds around Mackay. The donation-based model and community atmosphere make this a practical overnight stop for both short visits and extended stays.

Closed Tuesday’s and Wednesdays

Got there and the place was closed on Tuesday. The nice lady running the place told me about a free site 3 miles away toward the mountain and on the left. Follow the signs for sportsmen.

Beautiful Park

Beautiful city park that offers free dry camping. They only ask for a donation. Tree’d grassy park with picnic tables & fire pits at each site. Beautiful views of the mountains. Had 2 deer meander through the campground in the morning! A family reunion had the main park/campground reserved for the weekend but they had an overflow area that was just as beautiful minus the trees. But each site still had fire pits and picnic tables. Would absolutely recommend this campground & stay there again. Wish more towns offered something like this!
