Swinging Bridge

Off Highway 55 in the Boise National Forest, Swinging Bridge Campground sits directly across from the Payette River with easy road access but limited space for larger RVs. The small loop accommodates rigs up to 40 feet, though several reviewers note the layout favors tent camping over big rigs.

Highway noise carries through the sites during daytime hours, but Kurt Z. reports "traffic noise during day, didn't notice at night." The sound of the rushing river helps mask road sounds. Mature shade trees cover most sites, each equipped with a table and fire ring. A single hand pump provides potable water, and vault toilets stay well-maintained according to multiple visitors.

The Payette River runs directly across Highway 55 from the campground. Campers can access the water for fishing or swimming, with one reviewer suggesting to "bring your swimsuit" for river activities. Cell service remains spotty throughout the campground, with limited TMO coverage near the north entrance but generally unreliable connections.

A camp host stays on-site during the season, and the $18 nightly fee covers trash service and firewood availability. For additional camping options in the region, campers can explore campgrounds around Boise National Forest. The campground works best for those prioritizing river access and shade over complete highway separation.

Numerous guests pointed out the clean facilities and well-maintained grounds with good shade. Highway noise is noticeable during the day, though the river sound provides natural masking and most found it comfortable for sleeping.

Cute and Tucked Away

Right off the highway but feels a lot more isolated. Lots of greenery, clean bathroom, and sound of the river. It is off the highway so there is car noises but it’s not bad.

Nice little spot with potable water

Very well maintained site with a clean pit toilet.  Contrary to the Forest Service web site, there is potable water, a single working hand pump.  Some TMO cell coverage at north entrance but generally not usable.  Traffic noise during day, didn't notice at night.

Nice campground!

Super clean campground. Clean restrooms. The camp host was really friendly and seemed like a straight up guy. We were the only ones at the campground on 8/14/23. As mentioned it is close to the road.

River & Road

The Swinging Bridge campground had the pros and cons of being right off of hwy 55. It’s easy to access the site and Payette River but you can hear the traffic.

Not an ideal site for big rigs. No showers or cell service but there are vault toilets.

Close to Road and River

This is a small camp ground right off Highway 55 and across the Highway from the Payette river.  Lots of shade trees.  Not a lot of room for larger campers or RVs, mostly geared toward tent camping.  I did not get cell service here.

Small, near highway

It’s close to the highway 55 so it’s kind of loud with traffic. Very close to the river so bring your swimsuit

Little road noise; Close to the river

This small loop of camp spots has one pit toilet and running water. The proximity to the road is close so you will get some road noise but the rushing river all but drowns it out most of the time. We didn't have any problems sleeping. This is a great spot to just pull over and set camp as we did without to much fuss. The spots all have a table and fire ring and the pit toilet wasn't bad. There is a camp host here if you need anything and they do run a generator. We barely noticed because of the river again.
