Jerry Johnson Campground - TEMPORARILY CLOSED

With paved roads and sites, Jerry Johnson Campground sits within Clearwater National Forest at $14 per night from April through November. Currently closed for maintenance, this established Forest Service campground previously offered basic amenities including vault toilets and garbage collection for drive-in access.

The campground's open terrain provides limited shade after tree removal in recent years, which reviewers note makes sites warmer during summer days. Located between two separate hot springs destinations, the facility attracts rafters and anglers accessing nearby water recreation. Highway proximity creates some traffic noise, though Celine K. found it "was not very loud at night" during her October visit.

Site 7 offers elevated views according to recent visitors. The campground typically sees light use even during peak season, with only two occupied sites reported during a June visit. Fall colors from larches and deciduous trees provide seasonal interest for October campers. For broader options in the region, explore camping near Clearwater National Forest.

Check current closure status before planning, as the facility has remained shuttered for maintenance in recent years despite previous popularity among hot springs enthusiasts.

A campground near hot springs with excellent facilities but compromised by tree removal that eliminated shade. Highway noise is present but manageable, though the site has been closed in recent years.

Open in 2025

June 21 and we are one of two campers here. Paved roads and sites. It may be too early in the season for maintenance but grass is high around campsites. Beautiful view from # 7. Did not try to get water or use pit toilets. Garbage bins. Rained during the night with low of 45.

Can be crowded

This is a good campsite! It can definitely fill up,but there is usually a spot to stay. Some traffic noise, since it is very close to the highway, but the rod isn’t very busy.

A gem spot

I've hiked to Jerry Johnson hot springs plenty of times, and finally decided to check out the campground! The site was really clean, the outhouses were immaculate! Honestly the nicest outhouse I have ever seen. I went during early October and the larches and deciduous trees were showing great fall colors. The campsite is a little close to the highway, but it was not very loud at night. In the fall, there is a reasonable amount of traffic, but I would assume it gets a little heavier in the summer.

Best Hot Springs

Jerry Johnson has totally unimproved, rustic hot springs. There is a short hike from the road at the pull-off back to a series of lovely hot springs. You will probably run into some hippies, but that adds to the fun. This is an amazing destination that I would recommend to anyone!
