Road noise from Route 200 carries across this compact 14-site campground, though sites positioned farther from the highway experience less traffic sound. Ross Prairie Campground operates as part of the Florida State Park system within the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, offering pull-through sites accommodating RVs up to 86 feet with 50-amp electric hookups.
The campground's layout provides generous spacing between sites, particularly around the outer loop where privacy increases. Kathie E. notes "all sites are pullthrough" and recommends the facility for its "super clean" conditions and helpful camp hosts. Site 3 receives frequent mentions as offering the best positioning away from road noise. A newly remodeled bathroom facility serves all sites, though its central location means some campers face longer walks.
Multiple trail systems connect directly from the campground, including the Ross Prairie Loop, a 3.5-mile route combining wooded sections and open prairie. Equestrian trails accommodate horse trailers and riders, though Jennifer L. points out there's "no water for horses but creeks on trails during summer." Hiking and biking trails receive consistent praise for easy navigation and varied terrain.
Gate access operates during closed hours with codes provided at check-in. The campground maintains year-round availability at $22 per night, with reservations accepted. Campers report good cell service and convenient access to both Ocala and Dunnellon for supplies. For additional overnight options in the region, campers can explore campgrounds near Hernando.
The combination of trail access and manageable size creates a functional base camp for those prioritizing outdoor activities over complete quiet.
