Kayakers and paddlers gain direct water access from this tent-only campground positioned along the Florida Keys coastline. Long Key State Park Campground features four hike-in sites that require a 100-yard walk across a boardwalk from the parking area, with campers setting up just 15 feet from the water's edge.
The sites sit side by side despite the park's expansive size, offering unobstructed views across the ocean waters. Campers can launch kayaks directly from their sites and explore the shallow areas suitable for lounging. The location provides opportunities for snorkeling, though reviewers note the beaches consist of muddy bottoms rather than sand. Traffic noise from nearby US Highway 1 carries throughout the night.
Restrooms provide warm water but lack lighting after dark. The campground operates year-round at $22 per night, though availability remains limited due to hurricane damage repairs that have periodically closed the facility. D C. warns that rats "getting into cars and chewing stuff up" requires careful food storage.
No-see-ums present significant challenges during certain seasons, particularly in early May when these biting insects can make camping uncomfortable despite wind conditions. For additional camping choices in the region, explore camping near Long Key State Park.
