Scattered across two loops with generous spacing between sites, Lake Manatee State Park Campground sits on 60 campsites where neighbors can be 40 to 50 yards away. The campground operates year-round with water and electric hookups on every site, accommodating RVs up to 65 feet alongside tent campers who appreciate the sand-based, level pads.
Campers consistently note the quiet atmosphere, broken only by occasional traffic from nearby Highway 64 or weekend activity from DeSoto Speedway down the road. L O. found it a "very quiet location, save for the occasional airplane or distant siren." Natural brush and vegetation create privacy between sites, though shade varies significantly across the campground. Some sites offer substantial tree cover while others remain more exposed.
The lake provides the main recreational draw, located a 10 to 15-minute walk from any campsite. Swimming areas feature benches near the water's edge, though alligators inhabit the lake alongside turtles and other wildlife. Fishing opportunities abound, and the day-use area includes picnic facilities, restrooms with showers, and a beach volleyball court. Short hiking trails wind through the park, suitable for walking or hybrid biking despite occasional sandy sections.
Firewood sells for $5 per bundle at the gatehouse, with a bulk option of $10 for a 50-gallon drum. The campground lacks full hookups and laundry facilities, but maintains clean restrooms and shower houses. Cell service works adequately for most carriers, though internet speeds remain slow. Reservations are available and recommended, particularly for weekend stays when the speedway operates from 8am to 11pm.
The campground works well for RV travelers seeking space and privacy, tent campers who don't mind occasional traffic noise, and anyone wanting lake access without full resort amenities. For additional options in the region, campers can explore campgrounds around Parrish.
