L-31 Boat Ramp

Accessible via the Tamiami Trail, this dispersed camping spot provides a dirt parking area directly along a canal within the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area. The FL Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission manages the site, which allows alcohol but prohibits pets.

Campers park in one of two available spots, though one sits right next to a water pump building down a steep hill. Bank fishing draws visitors to the canal, where airboats run throughout the day. The location lacks water, hookups, and other services. Bright lights from a nearby detention center, canal crossing infrastructure, and a casino create significant nighttime illumination that affects the camping experience.

Boondocking the Tamiami Trail

This is a dirt parking lot on the Tamiami Trail (Rt 41) right along the canal. Airboats run all day. We didn't go on one but it looked fun. Great fishing! No water no hookups.

Sitewe found a place we felt comfortable and parked the camper no one bothered us

Not suitable

There is a detention center across the highway, the lights from the canal crossing and water pump building are extremely bright, there is a huge lit up casino about 1/4 mile away. There are two places to park, but one of them is right next to the pump building and down a steep hill. I passed on this one and camped instead at the one 19 min or so up the road.

Sitedid not end up staying here
