Grassy sites ring Hurricane Lake at this Forest Service campground, where campers access lakefront spots through multiple entry points including boat-in options. The 13-dollar fee covers sites with fire pits, picnic tables, and shared water spigots, though no electric hookups are currently available at the south campground location.
A resident host stays on-site year-round, providing local knowledge and maintaining the grounds. Desiree K. notes that "each site had a fire pit, a picnic table and shared a water spigot." The lake allows fishing and boats with trolling motors only—no gas engines permitted. Anglers report consistent activity during daylight hours, while evenings tend toward quiet after dark.
Bathroom facilities include individual-style units that reviewers describe as clean, though no dedicated shower building exists currently. The campground separates tent campers from RV areas, creating distinct camping zones. Communal trash collection eliminates the need to pack out garbage, and the 14-day maximum stay allows extended visits.
Hurricane Lake North Campground sits just half a mile north for those seeking electric hookups. Squirrels actively drop pinecones from overhead trees, and alligators inhabit the lake though sightings remain uncommon according to regular visitors. The combination of lakefront access, fishing opportunities, and forest setting appeals to campers comfortable with basic amenities.
