KOA Montrose RV Resort

Staff at this KOA work to separate overnight travelers from long-term residents, placing short-term campers in dedicated sections away from the permanent crowd. The campground accommodates RVs up to 44 feet with full hookups and provides standard amenities including restrooms, showers, and WiFi. Reviewers note the friendly desk staff who help explain local road conditions, particularly the weekday closure schedule on US-50 between Montrose and Gunnison that affects travel to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

The facility maintains clean grounds and buildings, though some equipment like washers may be out of service. Campers report the surrounding neighborhood feels rough, and permanent residents sometimes drive too fast through the campground. For additional camping choices, consider places to camp near Montrose. The location works well as a base for visiting Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Many guests appreciated the friendly, helpful staff and clean facilities. However, several reviews noted concerns about the permanent resident area and neighborhood atmosphere, with staff mitigating this by placing transient campers in separate sections.

Friendly Staff, Good Location for Black Canyon of the Gunnison,

Very passable KOA.  Friendly staff, the woman at the desk helped explain the bizarre road closure schedule during weekday hours on US-50 btw Montrose and Gunnison (what a mess).  This was a very convenient jumping off point to visit Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, and as another reviewer wrote, the permanent crowd at this KOA feels a little rough.  But to their credit, the staff put us in a section of the park with others who were just passing through and staying the night.

Great Place

Much better than Cortez’s KOA. Very friendly staff, clean facilities and grounds. Only complaint is several (3) washers are out of order.

Convenient to Gunnison, dated cabin

Folks were friendly but cabin was dated. AC didn’t work. Also a bit of a rough crowd coming in and out of the permanent area. People driving way too fast through campground.
