    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Lake Jennings

    Lake Jennings, A Peaceful Escape

We took our 28-foot travel trailer and two young kids (ages 5 & 8) for a long weekend at Lake Jennings Campground in Lakeside, CA — and it was a fantastic quick escape. Just 30 minutes east of San Diego. This hilltop park offers peaceful vibes, spacious sites, and family fun without the long drive. RV-Friendly Sites Our full-hookup pull-through site (30-amp) was easy to maneuver with plenty of space and privacy. Many sites have nice lake or city views (worth the small upgrade). Hookups worked great, and the clean restrooms/hot showers were a short walk away. Free Wi-Fi was a handy bonus. The shaded, covered playground was a huge hit, along with games like ladder golf, cornhole, and horseshoes. Short hiking trails start right from the campground with great lake overlooks. We rented a boat for fishing (no swimming — it’s a drinking water reservoir) and the kids loved spotting wildlife. Quiet hours were respected for good sleep. Friendly staff, well-maintained grounds, and a safe, gated feel made it relaxing. Pricing is reasonable Lake Jennings delivers scenic views, roomy RV sites, and kid-friendly activities in a convenient location. Perfect for families wanting a low-key getaway close to home. We’ll be back! Highly recommended for RV families

    Sweetwater Summit Regional Park

    Family Bonding Heaven

Our big family of eight had a wonderful four-night stay at Sweetwater Summit Regional Park Campground in Bonita with our 45ft travel trailer, and the North Loop provided a convenient base just 20-25 minutes from downtown San Diego. We secured one of the spacious premium pull-through sites. #63 which had full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer) on a long paved pad that comfortably handled our large rig and gave everyone plenty of room to spread out with multiple vehicles and outdoor setups. The kids loved the playgrounds, seasonal splash pad, gentle family hiking trails with beautiful Sweetwater Reservoir views, plus picnicking, fishing opportunities, and open spaces for group games—making it an ideal spot for memorable family bonding with modern amenities right at hand.Book early (as early as a year in advance) as the North Loop fills quickly, especially the premium spots.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Jojoba Hills SKP Resort

A little Pricey, but a Gem!

You must be an Escapee member to stay here. Many long term residents who stay here seasonally or year round. It's a co-op, so members do a lot of the work around the place.

If you're not a long term resident, you can rent either a full hook-up site for $45 a night or $270/week. Dry camping sites are $15 night.

The people here are lovely. I attended a holiday play while I was there. There's a gym, a pool, several hot tubs and so many activities to participate in. Also great hiking trails right inside the co-op.

Temecula is just a short drive away with all the stores you would need. I had a nice two week stay. Recommended.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

Guide to San Marcos

RV parks near San Marcos, California offer access to northern San Diego County attractions while providing essential amenities for camping. The region has relatively mild year-round temperatures, with summer highs around 85°F and winter lows rarely below 45°F. Most RV facilities cluster along the I-15 corridor and coastal areas, providing varying levels of accessibility to beaches, urban amenities, and natural settings.

What to do

Explore beach access: Paradise By The Sea RV Resort provides a convenient gateway to the Pacific Ocean. "Go out the locked gate at the back of the grounds, walk thru a park and across a (not too busy) street and there is the Pacific Ocean. The beach was hit hard by storms over the past year apparently and much sand has washed away. Leaving most of the beach covered in a thick layer of smooth river stones."

Visit local attractions: Oceanside RV Resort offers easy access to family destinations. "It's a newer retro campground with spots for RV's, tents, cabins and yurts. There are a lot of option and facilities with showers, bathrooms and laundry." The campground is "a short drive to the ocean" and relatively close to popular destinations like Legoland.

Utilize on-site recreation: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay provides resort-style amenities. "Community areas include pool, restaurant, bar, game room, lounge areas with fire pits. Store on site for snacks and souvenirs." Another camper notes, "Large pool area. Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well."

What campers like

Resort-style accommodations: Pala Casino RV Resort offers upscale amenities. "Very well kept up resort. 5-8 minute walk from your camper to a slot machine. They allow early checkin and late checkout. Pool hours kinda suck because they close at 5pm on weekdays but great heated pool and two hot tubs." One visitor rated it "the nicest park we've ever stayed in."

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Escondido RV Resort provides reliable utilities and amenities. "Despite facing challenging weather conditions with heavy rain and hail from an atmospheric river, everything continued to function seamlessly- from the electric hookups to the water supply. The drainage system at Escondido RV Resort was impeccable, preventing any issues with mudslides even in such extreme weather."

Convenience to urban amenities: Olive Avenue RV Resort offers an accessible base camp location. "This place is nice, clean and quiet with newer RVs. It's only a few miles off 78, about 10-15 miles from Carlsbad beach and the same distance to Escondido. This is not a park like private site setting. It's an RV parking lot with sewer and water hook-ups."

What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Many San Marcos area RV parks feature compact layouts. At Olive Avenue RV Resort, "the sites are close together so don't plan on enjoying a quiet meal outside (truly for the pull throughs, they are meant to just to park an RV... the back ends in the corners look like they have more room)."

Highway noise impacts: Several RV parks near San Marcos are situated near major highways. At San Diego RV Resort, "Road noise is the main issue. Otherwise it's a very nice and well maintained RV resort." Similarly, at Circle RV Resort, one visitor noted the property is "located between freeway and major road...so there is no escaping any traffic noise."

Age restrictions at some facilities: Certain RV parks have policies regarding vehicle age. At Olive Avenue RV Resort, one visitor reported being "arbitrarily rejected accepting our motorhome based on a picture I sent, which they undoubtedly did not even check. Never explained why. Don't bother looking here if your rig is over 10 years."

Tips for camping with families

Look for family-friendly amenities: Lilac Oaks Campground provides recreational options for children. "For someone looking for a glamping spot while still being able to tent it, this is the spot. Bathrooms a pool and a game room. Plus there are many trails to walk. Light fishing and a mini mart as well."

Consider alternative accommodation types: Some RV parks offer tent camping options. At Oceanside RV Resort, "There are 5 spots where you can walk your stuff and camp right on the beach. Each spot was secluded and had a picnic table and a good size area for your tent."

Book early during school breaks: Competition for spaces increases during holiday periods. At Paradise By The Sea RV Resort, one camper observed, "We watched this park fill to capacity the day before the holiday. We liked it better when there were a few empty spaces." This trend extends across most RV parks in the San Marcos area.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared for uneven sites at some facilities. At Olive Avenue RV Resort, a visitor noted, "We had a pull through site with full hook ups; it was on a cement pad that was nice, but the city made them slope all the pads for water drainage... a huge amount! We maxed our our tongue on multiple boards to level off."

Ask about propane services: Several RV parks offer propane fill services. At Pala Casino RV Resort, campers appreciate that "propane fills [are] available on site," which saves trips to external vendors.

Check utility reliability: During extreme weather, drainage and hookup reliability becomes essential. Escondido RV Resort earned praise for its infrastructure: "People are complaining about freeway noise, we stayed in site 3 (the closest site to the freeway) and it was quiet as a mouse from inside our (insulated) RV. Amazing amenities. Dog park, pool, clubhouse."
