Within Stanislaus National Forest, Mill Creek Campground provides primitive camping along Highway 108 for $8 per night. The Forest Service maintains this basic facility without running water, showers, or bear boxes, requiring campers to pack their own water and store food in vehicles. Sites feature fire rings and access to a small creek that runs low during dry periods. The campground host keeps sites raked and bathrooms clean, though facilities remain widely spaced. Large rocks near some sites offer climbing opportunities, while the elevation around 7,000 feet brings cool temperatures and strong mountain winds. For those wanting more developed amenities, campgrounds around Bear Valley provide additional options with full services.
