Camp San Luis Obispo RV

Camp San Luis Obispo RV operates as a military campground requiring valid military or civil service identification for access. Located on an Army Reserve and National Guard base, the facility provides both full hookup sites at $31 per night and overflow camping areas for $10, with reservations available up to 30 days in advance.

The RV sites feature 30 and 50 amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections arranged in close proximity to each other without natural barriers between spaces. Each pull-through site includes a picnic table and brick fire pit, though campers must bring their own firewood. Traffic noise from adjacent roads affects the camping area throughout the day, while quiet hours begin at 10 PM. The base maintains clean restroom and shower facilities, plus a laundry area for camper use.

"The area is kept very clean and at night there is no noise," reports Bjorn, who has visited multiple times with family. The overflow area accommodates tent camping and RVs without hookups on grass surfaces, with dump station access available. A small commissary operates near the campground with variable hours.

The base allows walking and biking throughout the grounds, and the secure military environment provides controlled access. Nearby camping alternatives include El Chorro Regional Park and Morro Strand State Beach. Pet-friendly policies welcome four-legged companions throughout the facility.

Many campers appreciated the clean facilities and full hookups at this military base campground. Some noted concerns about closely spaced sites and road noise, though the secure location 15 minutes from beach appeals to families.

It's.... OK

This "campground" is on an Army Reserve and National Guard base, with the security that comes with it. Military ID is required. The RV spots are stacked next to each other, with no trees or barriers of any kind in between. Right next to a road, so plenty of traffic noise. Positives are; decent bathrooms, nearby laundry, full hookups.

Couple things to note; the billeting office where you check in is about .25 miles from the RV park. Guards at the gate did not know about the RV park at all, let alone how to direct us to it. Billeting office closes at 4pm.

Also, be aware that pricing has changed. I was charged $10 for overflow camping and $31 per night for a hookup spot.

Very clean and open campground

We have visited this place at least 3 times .  It is a dog friendly camp sight with pull through campsites.  The cost of the pull through is 25 $.  They have 30 amp/50amp available. They also have overflow camping available for 5 $.  Please beware that overflow is I. The grass area and does not have hookups.  You can tent camp in those.  If you do park your rv in the overflow there is a dump site for those. They have clean facilities on site, bathrooms with hot showers.  You can bike, walk the base.  The area is kept very clean and at night there is no noise.  At 10 camp goes silent.  They have a table and brick fire pit at each pull through. Bring you own firewood. This is a military base so don’t forget your military Id  or civil service Id.   There is a small commissary (store) near the campground, but hours vary.

We go here with our kids  and love it as it’s clean secure and close to (15min) to the beach.

Note reservation maximum 30 days ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What RV facilities are available at Camp San Luis Obispo?

Camp San Luis Obispo offers pull-through RV campsites with full hookups, including both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical connections. The facility provides clean restrooms and shower facilities for campers. When the main RV area reaches capacity, an overflow camping area is available on a grassy section, though this area may not have the same hookup capabilities as the main sites. The campground is dog-friendly, making it convenient for travelers with pets.

Who can stay at Camp San Luis Obispo Military Campground?

Camp San Luis Obispo Military Campground is exclusively for military-affiliated individuals. You must have a valid military ID to access this facility, as it's located on an Army Reserve and National Guard base with appropriate security protocols in place. This includes active duty, reserve, retired military personnel, and their dependents. The base maintains security measures typical of military installations, so be prepared to show proper identification upon arrival.

What are the lodging options and rates at Camp San Luis Obispo?

Camp San Luis Obispo offers pull-through RV sites with full hookups for $25 per night. These sites accommodate both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical connections. When the main camping area is full, overflow camping is available for $5, though this area is on grass and may have limited hookups. The campground does not appear to offer cabin or traditional lodging accommodations beyond RV sites. For current rates and availability of any additional lodging options, contact the facility directly.

How does Camp SLO compare to other camping options in San Luis Obispo?

Camp SLO offers a more utilitarian camping experience compared to other San Luis Obispo options. The RV sites are positioned close together without trees or privacy barriers between them, and the location experiences some road noise. However, it provides excellent value with full hookups at $25/night—significantly less expensive than most commercial alternatives in the area. Unlike scenic state parks or private campgrounds, Camp SLO focuses on functionality rather than natural beauty. The clean facilities and convenient location make it practical for military-affiliated travelers, especially those passing through on coastal journeys.
