Located along Tioga Pass Road at 7,700 feet elevation, Yosemite Creek Campground sits four miles off the main highway in Yosemite's high country. The 75 first-come, first-served sites occupy open terrain near the creek that gives the campground its name. Sam M. describes it as "a cute little campground on the north-ish end of the park" that's "strictly for tent campers."
The rough access road keeps RV traffic minimal, creating a quieter atmosphere than valley campgrounds. Sites vary in size and privacy, with some offering more seclusion than others. Each comes equipped with a picnic table and bear box for food storage. The creek provides a natural soundtrack, and several reviewers mention opportunities for water access. Bill P. notes that "river sites the best" and recommends arriving early to secure waterfront spots.
The high elevation location puts campers within reach of granite peaks and alpine terrain. Rock climbing enthusiasts appreciate access to Yosemite's granite routes, while hikers can explore trails leading to Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and Mono Pass. The elevation means cooler temperatures even in summer, though it also brings breathing challenges for some visitors unaccustomed to thinner air.
The campground operates from early June through early September, closing when snow arrives. Sites cost $17 per night with no reservations accepted—availability depends on timing and luck. The rough access road makes RV camping impractical, and the facility lacks showers. Bear activity requires proper food storage in provided boxes. Those seeking additional options can explore campgrounds around Yosemite National Park or consider Porcupine Flat Campground — Yosemite National Park two miles southeast.
