Washboard road conditions mark the approach to Black Mountain Road Camp, with about two miles of rough driving before reaching the camping area. This dispersed BLM site sits in open desert terrain where shade remains scarce, making summer visits challenging due to extreme heat. Sites spread across the area with small cacti scattered throughout, requiring pet owners to watch for thorns and spines.
The campground provides 360-degree views for sunrise and sunset viewing, with winds helping cool evening temperatures. Verizon cell service reaches the area according to recent visitors. Campers can access sites by vehicle or on foot, with campfires, pets, and alcohol permitted under BLM regulations.
