Six campsites line the unpaved campground road at Wolf Pen Recreation Area, where the Mulberry River flows within walking distance of every spot. This Forest Service campground operates year-round with vault toilets, trash service, and metal fire rings, though campers must bring their own water or filter from the river. The sites sit close to the access road, with Susan H. noting they are "relatively private" once foliage returns.
Highway 215 runs nearby, creating some road noise that typically quiets after dark according to multiple visitors. Each site includes a fire ring and most have elevated grills, though picnic tables are not provided. The campground road ends at a loop, and campers can access the Mulberry River for swimming and fishing from several points along the bank. Winter visitors find muddy or gravelly ground conditions and reduced privacy between sites.
The $10 nightly fee drops to $5 with a federal pass, payable at the on-site station. Campers seeking additional options can explore places to camp near Ozark National Forest. This small campground works well for those wanting minimal amenities and direct river access without crowds.
