Flower Pot USFS Dispersed

Free dispersed camping along Flower Pot Road provides multiple pull-off spots across a 2.5-mile stretch of packed dirt road in Prescott National Forest. The main camping area sits on a hill near the end of public access, just before a cattle gate marks the transition to private ranch land.

The road accommodates RVs up to 35 feet, though conditions change with weather. "Very few other campers when we were here in early April," reports Laura M., who notes the main road dries quickly after rain while side roads become impassable. Several reviewers mention occasional traffic from ranch residents passing through, but most describe the area as consistently quiet between vehicles.

Cell coverage varies by carrier and location along the road. Verizon users report strong signals, particularly at the hilltop sites, while AT&T coverage proves weaker. Campers can gather firewood from surrounding juniper trees, though deadfall supplies have diminished over time. Free-roaming cattle wander the area, and visitors should close any gates behind them when exploring forest service roads on foot or by ATV.

The elevated sites offer views across the surrounding forested terrain, with campers noting clear night skies away from city lights. Access from Interstate 17 takes about 10 minutes of driving on the dirt road, with multiple camping options closer to the highway for those preferring shorter drives. "Back and forth traffic by residents of the ranch homes, but overall very quiet," observes Laura M.. The area works well for RV travelers, tent campers, and those seeking dispersed sites outside Prescott National Forest within easy highway access.

Campers regularly cited the peaceful atmosphere and ample space for various camping setups. A few reviews mentioned muddy conditions during rain and occasional road noise, but most visitors found it suitable for a quiet getaway.

Flower Pot

Great area. Remote with a beautiful view. This section of the road is mostly quiet with the occasional vehicle passing by. If you are lucky the local gang of cows may visit. Not sure I trust them all the way, they look like they are up to no good....

Gorgeous views!

Gorgeous views on top of the hill, about 100 yd from the cattle gate which seems to mark the end of public land. It is worth driving the full 2 to 2 1/2 miles from I-17 to get here and enjoy several large flat areas for camping. You can pull off at several areas along Flower Pot Road, closer to i-17, but none are as desirable as this beautiful site. There is some wood, primarily juniper, but most of the deadfall has already been used up, so you might want to bring your own, or pick it up along the way. Great T-Mobile coverage. The road is good, packed dirt, minimal washboarding but could be a problem in heavy rains due to mud.

easy access

We are in a 35' class A towing a jeep. No problem getting to the end of the road. Only one other camper. Breezy and quiet.

Great Option near Camp Verde

I had a great couple nights here. I pulled off the road short of the Dyrt directions and found a cute little place with a fire ring. If you follow the Dyrt directions, you'll find a much more established campground. Would return. Great ATT and Verizon service.

Wide open spaces

Great place to stop right off the road on the way to Sedona. Lots of places to camp - however it is off season and mid week. It was a little muddy and rutted, but it was raining. We could hear the freeway - however, I am guessing the further you go in - the less road noise. Full Verizon signal. Would happily stay here again.

Fair to middling

I stayed here in a tent one night with my dog. PROS: close to the 17 and good Verizon service, peaceful setting, bright and gorgeous stars at night, lots of firewood to gather from surrounding juniper trees. CONS: lots of gnats and bugs where we were and no trails. All the established sites were taken though so it may be better there. RV’s had pull-through sites though no hookups or dumpsites or amenities. Overall not a bad stay though I probably wouldn’t go back. As another reviewer mentioned there is through-traffic from the ranchers who live in the Valley and a few of them would slow down and stare when they drove by but one waved.

Great views

Great little spot just inland from the highway. Room for trailer, RV or just camp in your vehicle or tent.

Great Boondocking

This spot is about 2 miles from Hwy 17 and it's just before the road turns to private land and ranch homes.

The main road in is packed dirt, some washboarding, but we had no problems in our 26 ft Class C. There are a few other spots closer to Hwy 17, but this spot sits high on a hill with great Verizon service. ATT service was fairly weak.

Back and forth traffic by residents of the ranch homes, but overall very quiet. A couple of ATVs riding around as well.

There's some hiking available on the various forest service roads. Be sure to close gates behind you as there are free roaming cattle all over.

We stayed here for 5 nights, including a couple of rainy days. Would not recommend going on the side roads on or after a rainy day. Even walking them after the rain was difficult, slippery, slick, and the thick heavy mud just engorged my shoes. The main road is hard packed dirt and dried quickly after the rain.

Very few other campers when we were here in early April. Very quiet and serene place. Some residents waved as they passed by so they don't seem to mind the boondockers.

We really liked this place and would return.
