Blue Crossing Campground

This free Forest Service campground provides just three sites along a creek in Apache National Forest, with a 16-foot RV length limit. Two sites include lean-to shelters, and all feature picnic tables and access to vault toilets. Downed trees supply firewood, while mature trees create shade throughout the small camping area.

Water levels vary seasonally, with one camper noting the creek running well during spring snowmelt and heavy rains, though road crossings may become challenging during high water periods. Hiking trails and petroglyphs add interest for those exploring beyond camp. Campers seeking additional options can find camping near Apache National Forest or check Upper Blue Campground for a larger facility.

Beautiful streamside camp

Only 3 sites, two with lean to's. Was there in March when snow melt was just starting along with heavy rains so river was running good. Went back in April and water was still running across road. Lots of trees and shade. Plenty of downed trees for firewood. Hiking trails and petroglyphs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Blue Crossing Campground?

Blue Crossing Campground offers a small, rustic camping experience with just 3 sites, two of which feature lean-to shelters. The campground has plenty of shade trees and access to hiking trails nearby. There are no developed water or electrical hookups, making this a primitive camping experience. Fallen timber is available for campfires. The site is located near a river and features interesting attractions like petroglyphs in the vicinity, perfect for those seeking a natural, minimalist camping experience.

What is the best time of year to visit Blue Crossing Campground?

Late spring through fall is likely the best time to visit Blue Crossing Campground. Early spring (March-April) can be challenging due to snowmelt and heavy rains that may cause the river to run high and potentially flood across the access road. Summer offers more stable conditions, while fall likely provides pleasant temperatures with fewer water concerns. Given its limited sites and natural setting, visiting during weekdays or shoulder seasons would increase your chances of securing a spot.

How do I make reservations for Blue Crossing Campground?

Blue Crossing Campground appears to operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no formal reservation system. With only three sites available, arriving early is recommended, especially during peak seasons. For the most current information on reservation policies, fees, and availability, contact the managing agency (likely the Forest Service or BLM) that oversees this campground.
