Stariski State Rec Area

With views of three volcanoes—Augustine, Iliamna, and Redoubt—across Cook Inlet, Stariski State Recreation Area operates as a small clifftop campground from May 15 to October 15. The facility accommodates RVs up to 35 feet and provides drinking water, restrooms, a dump station, and picnic tables across its limited sites.

Sites 13 and 14 offer direct water views, with site 14 working well for RVs and site 13 suited for tent camping. The campground typically sees light use, especially early and late in the season when campers may find themselves alone at the site. "What can I say about the views," notes Tanya B., referencing the volcanic panorama visible from the bluff.

The location sits on cliffs above Cook Inlet, requiring caution around children due to the drop-offs. Beach access exists but involves finding your own route down the bluff. No fishing opportunities are available directly at the campground itself. Traffic consists mainly of local residents passing through the area.

For additional overnight options, Whiskey Point Cabins & RV Park and Whiskey Gulch Campground operate less than a mile away. The campground works best for self-sufficient campers seeking volcano views and solitude rather than activity-focused stays.

Many campers appreciated the stunning volcano views and peaceful setting with minimal crowds. The campground offers excellent privacy but may not be suitable for families with young children due to cliff proximity.

Great view

We stayed one night. We were lucky enough to get one of the two sites here that have a direct view. We were in site 14 which is great for an RV. Site 13 is great for a tent and is the other site with a great view. There was only one other group here and it was nice and quiet.

Great cliff views, quiet

We stayed a few days after Memorial Day so thinks we’re still on the quiet side for camping but we were the only ones at this campground! (Halibut just south was full). It was perfect for two adults in a Campervan that like privacy. Would not be great for young children as the cliffs could be dangerous.

Love State Parks

What can I say about the views. If you are wondering those are three volcanoes you can see, Augistine, Iliamna, and Redoubt. There is no fishing here and if you can find your way down to the beach there is a whole other world. Except traffic for local residents there are usually few people and worth it to find a way down.

I love this part of Alaska.
