Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Theodore, AL

All About Relaxing RV Park maintains a pet-friendly environment with a dedicated dog park and washing station for campers with four-legged family members. This well-maintained Theodore campground offers level concrete pads and full hookups, accommodating both RVs and tents. Nearby, Homestead RV Community provides spacious pet areas where dogs can run freely on their large property, though pets must be kept on concrete pads rather than grass areas. Mobile Oaks RV Resort (formerly Johnny's RV Resort) also welcomes pets with security gates and a 14-acre lake. Most campgrounds in the area enforce standard leash policies when pets are outside designated exercise areas. Campgrounds typically provide pet waste stations throughout their grounds, promoting responsible pet ownership during stays.

Bellingrath Road offers access to multiple pet-friendly campgrounds including Winner's Circle RV Resort and Stop N Rest RV Park, both allowing dogs with minimal restrictions. Campers traveling with pets find Theodore's location convenient for day trips to nearby Dauphin Island, which features additional pet-friendly outdoor recreation opportunities approximately 30 minutes away. The large concrete sites at Homestead RV Community are particularly appreciated by pet owners needing extra space for pet enclosures. Local wildlife considerations prompt most campgrounds to require pets remain supervised at all times. During summer months, early morning or evening walks are recommended due to hot pavement temperatures that can harm paw pads. The area's mild winter climate makes Theodore a year-round destination for campers with pets seeking outdoor activities without extreme temperature concerns.

    Parkers Landing RV Park

    Nice Little Park

This is a nice little park. Not fancy, but friendly and quiet. The office people were really nice and very accomodating. Has a small pool, showers/restrooms, and laundry. There are maybe 50% fulltime residents, but we were there for two months and never heard/saw any drama or trouble. People were friendly and kept mainly to themselves. Park has lots of shade from beautiful live oak trees and has a waterfront area that is very pretty. No dog park, but plenty of places to walk your leashed pet. There is a boat ramp around the corner and I believe the waterway connects to the river. The park is older, and some of the cement pads are cracked and heaving, but looked like people were able to level up. They mow and trim regularly, so things were neat. This isn't a new fancy park, but it was nice and quiet and we liked it. We had site 64 which was a great really long pull thru with full hookups. Our Verizon reception was good. They offer reasonable weekly and monthly prices as well as nightly. The park is off Exit 41 of I-10 about halfway between D'Iberville/Biloxi exit and Gulfport exit (both have tons of shopping). Local area has tons to do...casinos, beaches, about an hour and quarter to New Orleans, Shuckers baseball, plus tons of great food.

    Shepard State Park Campground

    Lots to do here!

The primitive campsite was very nice. Even though the park was a bit crowded we still had privacy. The dog park was perfect for our two large dog, very clean. My toddler had a very easy time walking around which was a huge plus!  The marsh trails were perfect for viewing wildlife. 10/10, would recommend!

    Deer Creek RV Park

Highly Recommend and will stay here again

We stayed at Deer Creek RV Park after returning from Florida headed back out west and this place is awesome. It is very conveniently located off I-65 and the park is very well kept, bathhouses are immaculate and very large. Has a dog park which our dog loved being off leash and owners are very nice, informative and can also recommend great restaurants around. They also have two other RV sites close to Gulf Shores and OWA in Foley. Highly recommend!

    Gulf State Park Campground

Spacious sites, amenities and close to ocean, but no dogs

This was our first visit to Gulf Shores State Park in Alabama.  The check in was as slow as molasses even though they had lots of staff, mostly standing.  Waited in line for 45 minutes with one person ahead of us taking her sweet time to book a future campsite.  Our site was nice, spacious with privacy.  We were worried about the alligators and snakes so kept pups on a short leash.

The beach was beautiful, with sandy white shores and lots of shells.  However, if you have dogs, it's a no-go so they have to stay back at the camp.  They do have a lovely dog park, right on the lake where dogs can run and swim, but the 'do not feed alligators' was a concern.  Locals said they had never seen one in 15 years... so not sure and not sure I want my dog to be the exception.

We enjoyed the friendly, southern hospitality of the town and would definitely return.  I would investigate other dog friendly places in the area.

    Enjoyed Our Stay

We stayed for the weekend. First thoughts were that it felt a bit cramped. We had an issue with the electrical that we couldn’t figure out, but one of the campground workers was very nice and tried to help us figure out the issue. We loved walking to the waterfront. My son enjoyed the basketball court. My kids loved the pool. It was quiet at night. The dog park consists of two fenced in areas which was nice because my dog gets bored quickly of the same area, so I alternated between the two. Overall it was a decent stay. The basic pull throughs do not have a fire pit, which sucked because it was chilly at night. The store was nice, as well. There is an entrance and an exit on opposite ends of the park - the exit is a bit tight and my husband was nervous to pull the camper that way. We noticed several people going out the entrance because it’s easier, just a heads up.

    Perdido Key RV Resort

    Small and fairly quiet

This RV park is tucked under the overpass and situated across from a golf course and next to a neighborhood. We were able to safely ride our bikes on the sidewalk to the public beach that wasn’t far at all. There’s also a public dog park/beach not far from the RV park. The little beach at the RV park is right where the house boats anchor and so it’s a little awkward to sit for a while as you feel you’re looking into their living room windows. The pool is nice - there’s a shaded canopy area on the side of the pool. Perdido Key is a very quiet town with not a lot to do and shuts down pretty early.
The public beach at the end of the road was hard to find a parking spot - very small parking lot with limited parking.

    Ahoy RV Resort

Nice clean park with friendly staff

This is a nice RV Park with lots of ammenties, like shuffleboard, pickleball, basketball, social room, pool with cool slide and a dog park. Its pretty close to the highway, so you get road noise, but its not bad. The drive in is about 1/4 mile of dirt road, but the park is paved with decent sized gravel sites, patios, picnic table and firepit and there is a "lake" in the middle of the park. The park is surrounded by tall pine trees, which is really nice. It was pretty expensive, and is 15 miles from the beach (66 for one night including discount), so not sure that we'd be back, but their weekly and monthly fees arent so bad. Overall a very nice park.

Guide to Theodore

Theodore's flat, coastal landscape creates unique camping conditions with high humidity levels year-round. Located approximately 16 miles southwest of Mobile, Alabama, the area maintains temperatures between 50-90°F throughout camping season. Campgrounds typically sit on clay-based soils that can become waterlogged after heavy rainfall.

What to do

Water recreation at Chickasabogue Park: Located 30 minutes from Theodore, this park offers kayaking, canoeing and swimming opportunities. "We had our own kayaks and bikes, so we went kayaking in the creek and mountain biking on marked trails all in one day!" shares reviewer Larry K. The park includes a dedicated swimming area with accessibility features.

Historical exploration at Blakeley State Park: This 2000-acre park features extensive Civil War historical sites. "Walking auto cell phone tours of civil war, boat tours," notes Kevin L. in his review. The park's historical significance makes it ideal for educational outings during your camping trip.

Beach access from Dauphin Island: Camp at Dauphin Island Campground for easy beach access. "A short walk and dog friendly! Bath houses were great!" mentions Deborah P. The island offers both Gulf and bay beaches within walking distance of campsites.

What campers like

Large, level concrete sites: Homestead RV Community receives praise for spacious concrete pads. "The concrete pads are really large and make for easy leveling and give ample space to park 2 vehicles easily," notes Cameron C. These sites provide stability during Gulf Coast rain events.

Clean, private bathrooms: All About Relaxing RV Park offers exceptional bathroom facilities. "Bathhouse has 4 guest bathrooms like you would find in a house. Each has a sink, vanity, toilet and very large shower," describes Caroline S. These private bathrooms provide comfort beyond standard campground facilities.

Accessibility of nature trails: Meaher State Park Campground offers boardwalk trails suitable for all mobility levels. "Bath houses are nice... Only 5 miles west to the USS Alabama Memorial Park. Well worth a visit!!" reports Cindy C. The elevated boardwalks provide wildlife viewing opportunities regardless of recent rainfall.

What you should know

Weather considerations: The Theodore area experiences frequent afternoon thunderstorms during summer months. "During a severe storm, the owner talked to us to ensure we were aware of which building to use for safety along with written instructions," explains a reviewer at All About Relaxing RV Park.

Site selection factors: When booking at Theodore-area campgrounds, consider drainage. "Some of the sites are so unlevel," warns Michael at Blakeley State Park. Request elevated sites if visiting during rainy season to avoid standing water issues.

Insect preparedness: Gulf Coast humidity creates ideal mosquito conditions. "The bugs, mosquitoes, spiders, & cockroaches are crazy," notes one reviewer at Mobile Oaks RV Resort. Pack appropriate repellents and screen shelters for outdoor meal preparation.

Tips for camping with families

Educational options: Incorporate learning opportunities at Blakeley State Park. "We were super happy at the food truck that was there so we didn't have to go off site for lunch," shares Nicole G. The park offers junior ranger programs: "Woke up to begin the junior ranger packet for our kiddos (provided at checkout)."

Pool facilities: Several Theodore-area campgrounds maintain swimming pools. "Nice large cement pads. Rigs of all sizes fit. Very nice bathhouse and pool," comments Chris P. about All About Relaxing. Pools provide supervised swimming alternatives when Gulf waters experience rough conditions.

Activity scheduling: Plan morning activities to avoid afternoon heat. "During summer months, early morning or evening walks are recommended due to hot temperatures," advises a local camper. Many campgrounds offer evening programming during peak seasons.

Tips from RVers

Arrival protocols: Several dog-friendly campgrounds near Theodore provide arrival assistance. "Arriving in the dark and rain, we were met at the gate and escorted in. He guided me back into the spot and got us settled in," shares a reviewer at All About Relaxing RV Park.

Site amenities: At Shady Acres Campground, RV sites include unexpected conveniences. "Trash can available at each site. Full hookups and cable," notes Cat R. The campground's location provides quick access to I-10 while avoiding highway noise.

Long-term considerations: For extended stays at dog-friendly campgrounds near Theodore, investigate monthly rates. "We stayed for a few months... Very nice large cement level pads. Rigs of all sizes fit," reports Chris P. Several parks offer discounted monthly rates between $500-900 with full hookups.
