Chugiak State Park
Campground was undermanned, underfunded, dumping station, broken bathrooms, dirty the trail, though followed the Eagle River and was nice lots of mosquitoes
Lovely campground
This campground has nice size sites for RV's. If you are tent camping (I am), there's one pull in to 3 sites so you are close to strangers if your friends don't come. The toilets are clean but smell awful. One can also hear quite a bit of road noise and military aircraft all day because the campground is near both. Nice quick stop. $20 a site per day.
Nice piece of Alaska
Great spot to stay for a nite or two. Bring your fishing pole as you're close to the river. Enjoy what Alaska has to offer!
So-So Stop
Only a few sites with a view of the river. Camp host not around. Sites were coned off with reservation dates a month old. We weren't sure if we could use them or not. We thought the sites were large & then realized the site was actually 2 sites right next to each other. Weird. Very few sites that were actually single sites with privacy. Our site backed up to hill which we thought was nice & private until 4 young kids came squeeling down the hill. The area is OK but the site layouts are kind of yucky.
Worst camp ever
No garbage cans (not even a bear proof). Camp host nowhere to be found. It was full packed. This was the 3rd weekend in Aug. The outhouses stank.
Nice little getaway
This campground is nice, picturesque, and spacious. Lots of trees for privacy! We like it because it’s close to home and a town, so a morning trip to get coffee is not out of the question. I hear that at least one of the local pizza places delivers here too! (Haven’t tested that out personally.) Nice, paved, level campsites for RVs, and plenty of space to put a tent on softer ground.
Close to EVERYTHING
8 of the campsites can be reserved but fill up months in advance. If you want to make a reservation make it early or make them into August/September. Reservations end September 20th.
Reservation site is: https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/lifetimeadventure
This is a great spot close to everything you might need and has amazing hiking trails. Bring your bear bells.
If you do stay in Eagle River the Eagle River Nature Center is a must. Hiking trails for all abilities. The only downside is that the highway is right above this campground but the river frowns out most of the noise. 2020 construction includes a new bridge.
Alaska does not disappoint with its state parks.
Along the River
Great campground with paved roads. Lots are spread out well and it is fairly comfortable and quite. Multiple trails travel along the campground and the river. Beautiful Alaskan experience right next to Alaska's largest city.
Close to home camping
Great spot close to our home of Anchorage for when we don't want to go too far. Large pavillion great for get-togethers right along the river and includes it's own bathroom. Semi-seclude sites give privacy with large open areas at your fire pits, great for groups. Some double sites perfect for camping with friends. Pet friendly just please keep the leashed and clean up after them. Watch for bear activity and make sure to keep all food and enticing items locked up.
Family fun
We stayed at the campground while at a Soccer tournament. Great place to stay very clean. River is a short walk from any camping spot! Will definitely be back!
Great Location near Eagle River
Located around 5 minutes to Eagle River. Beautiful location on River. ADA accessibility. Dump station on site. Restrooms available. There is a fee and a limit on how long you can stay. It was 4 days when we were there. Trails are nearby and fishing opportunities.
Nice place
Had a great time and the nature is beautiful.
Gorgeous area. Beautiful river.
Nice, well equipped campground. Sits right on the Eagle River. River is very fast, so advise watching pets and children carefully. Close to Anchorage, but far enough out of town to get away from the hustle. Still a slightly busy campground in summer months.
Our last night and not our favorite
This campground seems to be a very popular one just North if the city of Anchorage. It’s a nice setting but busy! Bathrooms are a hike and we had to essentially share a spot with another group of campers. Ultimately that was okay, but I prefer sites that aren’t so jam packed.
Endless Adventure
Amazing terrain but be prepared to get wet. You can easily get places and stay dry but for the full fledged adventure you’ll need to cross water and not just any water, make sure you know what you are doing! I love that this park is close to town but makes you feel like you’re lost in nature.
fun
it’s an overall fun and great camping ground. clean and good upkeep on the restrooms and the campground sits are nice and well taken care of. only thing to keep it from being 5 star is no trash cans.

Eagle River Campground
This was a close 10 minutes from my home and helped satiate my desire to get away from town for the night. I definitely prefer more off the grid places than Eagle river, but the sites were great and the bathrooms pretty clean and stocked.
Fun with family
Camped in a beautiful setting. Enjoyed time together as friends and family
Someone stole our spot - camp host was ok about resolve. Great and easy location. Awesome for groups as campsites are close together
A fun overnight with the ladies
Lovely!
Such a gen of a campground close to our home! Loved our spot by the river!
So close, clean, and beautiful. What a hidden gem!
Quick overnight stay. Although there were lots of people there, it didn't feel over crowded.
Cotopaxi - Questival
Had a beautiful night! What a beautiful and well - maintained campground! 10/10 experience with the homies!
Ak camping
Loved it. So nice and serene
Camping Fun
It was nice and quite and they had good spots to put your stuff.
Beautiful campground on the river!
Warm sunny day!
Nature without a far drive
This is one of my favorite campgrounds to visit. Living in Eagle River, this campground allows me to get out of town without going far. Be careful if you aren't used to camping, there are a ton of bears. Don't keep your food out of a secured box or by your tent, or rent one of their yurts. Make sure you take bear spray and/or a gun with you. Also bring bug spray as the mosquitoes can be quite viscous. I bring a bug net for my head too, this way when they are extremely bad, I can still enjoy being outside
the hiking trails are absolutely beautiful!! Watch for Moose. Look up every so often because there are also bald eagles around.
if you want to venture out for a different hike with amazing views, check out Baldy. You can see Anchorage to the Valley.
Eagle river campground
The grounds were very clean and nicely done. Was nice for a last minute camping trip because it's so close to town while still feeling like you're away in nature. Close to the river which is relaxing.
Always great
Love taking the kids to this one and soon I will do the trail to crows pass from the nature center
Easy hike to yurt
The hike of 2.7 miles was very easy with amazing views to the yurt at the end with lots of pre-cut firewood for the campers use. Eagle River was just steps away from our site and there was lots of wildlife as well.
Chugach State Park
I have lived in Alaska almost 3 years and still not get over the beauty of this state. Chugach State Park is no different. If you have never been to Alaska and live to hike or camp, you need to plan a trip up here!
