Bighorn Makes Big Dreams

Bighorn National Forest is one of my all time favorites to visit in the country. Dare I say that I enjoy it more than Yellowstone? I like it better than Yellowstone, but I do prefer National Forests over National Parks. We stay one night before heading through Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Jackson Hole. This is a very good campsite for the inexperienced and experienced. We had one of the tent sites and it was lovely to wake up next to the creek. There is also great history in the area like a tornado that ripped through the area. Find the plaque that explains more about that wild phenomenon when heading towards Cody. This is a great place to stay one night or fourteen.

Nice quiet stop on the way back from Yellowstone

We stayed here on the way back from Yellowstone. Super friendly host who sells firewood. The creek is mesmerizing and loved falling asleep next to it. Not much known bear activity in the area. A perfect place to stop on the way to Yellowstone or on the way back!

Great campground

We liked this place so much, that we have reservations to stay there again, but for two nights, not just one. We stayed here for one night in Sept 2020 on our way to Yellowstone. There weren’t many sites taken as it was the last week to be open. The vault toilet was clean. Water and trash bins available. We stayed right near the stream, which was beautiful. There were free range cattle around the area which made it interesting wondering if it was a bear or not from a far distance! They had only seen one bear throughout the summer. It was very quiet and very dark at night since you’re in the mountains. We are staying there for two nights this summer so we can explore the surrounding area. The beauty of Bighorn mountains really took us by surprise! So beautiful!

Spectacular creek setting campground

Great NFS campground. Nice travel sites, pretty level. Amazing creek behind the majority of the sites. Nice tent only walk in sites. Sites 1 & 2 share a parking area. Large turn around area for staging/unloading car/ATV haulers. Camp host was super nice and helpful. We will be camping here again! No cell service (Verizon).

Beautiful and surrounded by Native History

Around this mountain range is the Crow Medicine Wheel and one of the oldest trails in N America! Native tribes from the area still come to these sacred sites to pay homage to their ancestors and cultural identity. Definitely a unique experience worth visiting
