Overview

Buckboard Crossing Campground is located on the far northwest shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir at an elevation of 6,100 feet. Boating, fishing and water skiing are popular activities.

Recreation

Fishing, boating, canoeing, water skiing and swimming are popular activities on the lake. Campers are offered the convenience of an adjacent boat ramp, marina and fish cleaning station. Buckboard Marina has boat rentals, fuel, slips, fishing licenses, bait and groceries.

Natural Features

The campground is situated in a high desert landscape with sagebrush and a few scattered trees. Natural shade is minimal. Typical weather ranges from warm days to cool nights.

Nearby Attractions

Flaming Gorge Dam offers guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant and the dam itself; The adjacent visitor center contains area history exhibits.

Hot exposed camp

Open sunny exposed camp, not my pick for a CG. However they do have metal shade canopies over tables but that does not help TTs and vans....so they do have electric for your AC if you have it. $22/$11 non electric sites $31 ele trick. Water, toilets, trash and cell signal. Otherwise this is one harsh CG.

Lonely

Flaming George. Easy to find. We arrived on a Friday after and we thought site was closed. We were only campers in a 58 unit camp. Camp had two separate units with bathhouse and flush toilets trash containers. Each site had picnic table with cover fire pit and grill. With senior pass we paid $7 w/o power. We have solar.

Watch out for the sprinklers

Conveniently located campground near the marina with a very friendly host. Would recommend staying at the dispersed camping as this feels like a parking lot.

Incredible vistas and sunset

Has showers, bathrooms and camp sites 32-33 in loop B have incredible view of the high dessert. Definitely high country with winds blowing all day but by sundown the wind had died down enough for a fire and the sunset was freaking amazing! I’ll definitely go back but will be watching the wind conditions.

Dodge the sprinklers!

This was a really nice campground. They had two loops, loop A was mostly for RVs with hookups and loop B had standard sites (we stayed in this loop). The campground was very clean, really nice bathrooms and showers minus the fact that the showers get locked at 9pm so you have to plan ahead and hope everyone else isn’t using the showers when you go. The main inconvenience (and reason i only gave 4 stars) the sprinklers! I assume they are trying to grow grass but loop B had an abundance of sprinklers going non stop. We were able to find a site out of the path of the sprinklers but most were getting soaked! You also had to dodge them when going to the bathhouse, even walking on the road you had to go out of your way to avoid them. I’m sure this isn’t a long term thing but I did see where one person covered their picnic area with plastic. It’s an inconvenience but the campground itself is really nice! We arrived later and there was a self pay station at the host site on loop A. We stayed one night in a standard site for $20. The hookup sites were a little bit more but I think it was still under $30. Clean water and dump station nearby (unsure if there was a fee for the dump station)
