Directions

From the intersection of Highways 51 and 47 in Woodruff, travel Highway 51 north 6.2 miles to Highway M. Turn right on Highway M. Travel 2.7 miles and turn right onto Highway N. Continue on Highway N for 4.9 miles to Razorback Road, next to McKay’s Corner Store. Turn left and continue for 4 miles. Campground entrance is on the right.

Remote camping along an active lake

For those venturing out this way, the road from Sayner is paved the whole way. Coming in the opposite way has a mile or two of gravel. This campground seems to be much more active than others in the area. The lake is large enough to have motorboats towing people around. The campground beach was hopping when we pulled in. The campground itself is situated on a couple loops. We had a site in the back with no lake views. While the scenery at other sites may have been grand, we appreciated being separated from the crowd. The noise rose at nighttime between cheering, bags thudding and campfires reverie. There are vault toilets evenly spaced along with a couple hand pumps for water. We walked right across the road into the Aurora Lake State Natural Area. The road ends at another boat launch but it gave us a secluded 1.4 mile walk. We rode our bikes along the road and appreciated the pine scent as well as resplendent nature. This spot is a little too active for us but there are plenty of other campgrounds in the area to offer options.

A Nice Find

We stayed here in late June 2020. Happy to find that the campground wasn’t too crowded and we were able to snag the last lakefront site. The campsite itself was big but not huge. Enough for our camper, vehicle and the extras. There were a few trees to offer some privacy from other campers. We were surprised at the lack of mosquitoes, given that it was June in the woods in Wisconsin! The lakefront at our site was a little mucky, but became more sandy a few yards out. Good enough for launching our kayaks, but not great for swimming unless you could tolerate the muck before getting to the sand. There was a small beach area in the campground, but we didn’t use it. It looked nice from a distance and there were a few families using it. The bathrooms were vault toilets and looked new. They were very clean. Firewood was available at several places just outside the campground. It was a short drive (or bike) to the 50 mile long, paved bike trail. Definitely worth it!

Great spot on a nice lake

My family has been camping in Razorback lake at the end of every summer since I was a kid. It's a campground my dad's family visited annually when he was young, too, and we've continued the tradition. Razorback Lake can't boast swimming as nice as nearby Star Lake, but the swimming is quite nice anyway and the crowds are usually fewer. Each campsite is pretty nice, surrounded by enough trees to give you some privacy from the neighbors, although on occasion you can hear some of the loud ones. There are a few sites for larger groups/multiple cars. One part of the campground has a parking area with a handful of walk-in sites, but the walk is no more than 2/10 of a mile, most of them closer. One benefit of the walk-in sites is that most of them are on a small peninsula on the lake. Razorback Lake is a nice spot for kayaking, canoeing, or fishing, and there is a small island in the middle of it to paddle out to and explore.
