Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort Campground — Olympic National Park

Three separate camping areas. The RV park is tightly packed with full hookups, dump site down the road. Loops A and B are dry sites with restroom buildings and water spigots. The camping loops are quiet, nestled in the woods with good campfire rings and tables. B55 was great for a smaller camper, our Aliner Ranger fit great with the tow vehicle perpendicular. Some of the sites accommodated larger Airstreams, while some just a car with tent areas away from parking. Overall awesome spot.

This campsite is a great established site with lots of space and walking distance from the lovers lane trail head and the sol doc hot springs. Make sure to do both! This site is also near crescent lake, so it’s a great place to stay if trying to do both! Bathrooms were standard. There are showers at the hot springs as well as a little store.

Beautiful but busy area. The sites were laid out weird, with little to no privacy between sites. There was no river access from the campground which was unfortunate. The resort itself was so busy and did not look peaceful to soak in. We spent most of our days exploring the park and the coast. It is nice that it is close to the falls but they are also very busy. Long drive back to civilization. I have stayed at much better campgrounds in Washington, and was a bit disappointed by this one.

It’s nicer than camping in a parking lot. The surrounding woods are wonderful. There’s a trail to an amphitheater and an easy walking path to the hot springs

We stayed in Loop A site 9 Friday, October 7-9.

The site was okay but there wasn’t a lot of privacy between sites 8-11. The sites were all pretty close together. There was a shared bear box between sites 8-11. We opted for keeping our food in the car, which was parked up a little hill, not far enough to be a huge inconvenience but just enough to make you want to shorten the amount of trips to get things.

Our campsite had a pretty worn picnic table and a bench near the fire pit which we ended up using as a table while cooking on the fire.

The bathrooms right near our sites were closed except for one pit toilet so we ended up walking to the other side of the campground to use the bathroom. Not sure why they were closed.

The camp hosts weren’t the most friendly but maybe it was nearing the end of their stay and they were tired.

We would most likely camp here again but would probably select a campsite between 21 and up to have a little more privacy between sites.

We had a great time here. There’s hot springs, hiking trails, waterfalls, and we saw salmon making their epic journey up the falls. Wow. There aren’t bear boxes at most sites so keep items in your locked vehicle and hike with bear mace to be safe. We had a nice site. Bathrooms are a bit rough for the wear but clean.

Didn’t stay at the RV Park or campground as they were booked solid but for $18 (discounts for veterans, disabled persons and seniors) anyone can use the pool and hot springs.

We just happened to be visiting the Olympic Peninsula during a heatwave. It was close to 90 degrees every day we were there. After a couple days without a proper shower (in all that heat) we were feeling pretty icky. We popped in for the 10:00am soak time slot. (They have scheduled 90 minute swim/soak starting at 8:00am with a half hour break between soak times.) Showers are required in the locker room before you go to the pool area, then they have 3 pools filled with water from the mineral spring and 1 large, chlorinated, fresh water pool.

They were all fantastic. The 3 mineral pools are all slightly different temperatures, so you’ll find one that is comfortable for you. The pool was perfectly refreshing with the weather being so warm the day we went. We left the pool area about a half hour before the end of the time slot so we had time to take an actual soapy shower in the locker rooms without holding anybody else up. Side-note, there are lockers but you have to bring your own lock and the shower stalls don’t have doors or a curtain. I soaped up in my swimsuit, changed into my regular clothes and then used the swimsuit spinner to dry my suit. Also! The gift shop has beverages, snacks, ice creams and ice at a reasonable price along with plenty of fun souvenir shirts and things.

10/10 would recommend. Will be coming back for another visit every time we visit the area.

One of the most spectacular campsites I've stayed at, nestled into the giant rainforest trees. I stayed there with a group of friends in Loop A. The sites look a bit close together but feel quite far apart with all the tree and ground cover. Facilities were pretty basic, but we sprung for $15 to head over to the hot springs resort for a dip and a shower.

 It's an easy hike to Sol Duc Falls, and a good entry-point for longer hikes up to the Seven Lakes basin. We day-hiked to Deer Lake and I've added that to the list of back-country sites to come back for!

We loved our time at Sol Duc but we were disappointed that there were no showers. You can use the showers at the lodge but you have to pay $15 as this also gives you entrance to the hot springs. This wasn't ideal as we did not have time to use the hot springs so it seemed a bit expensive to spend $30 on two showers. The campsite itself was beautifully maintained and was beautiful in amongst all the forest trees. We would highly recommend watching the salmon running up the river in the salmon cascades which is only a few miles from the campsite. Probably wouldn't visit again but only because of the no showers. If we'd known before we went, we would have tried to stay somewhere else.

Soaking at hot springs after all day hike-priceless. Usually it is $15/day and you can go in and out as you wish but now it is $15 for 1.5 hours and reservation is needed due to limited occupancy. It is well maintained and clean. Campground is nice, no showers and they do have bear sightings so follow the rules strictly. Nice hiking trails in the area. The only negative part is 12 mile drive from the entrance to the campground.

I love this spot! I prefer loop B for the falls trail and the distance from the action. It’s always slightly quieter, which I love. The hot springs at the main lodge are the attraction, but the falls hike is absolutely stunning! Follow it up with a dip in the pools to smooth your muscles

I went with a group of friends outside of rainy season but it was still pretty wet. The day before we arrived, a bear had ransacked a campsite, so be careful not to leave any goodies in your tent.

We had room for two mid-size vehicles and eight people. Site 12 is right by the river and super close to trails. I probably don't need to sell Olympic to you, but it's magical. Be prepared for being wet.

There are two loops, Loop A which is closer to the river and Loop B which has lots of downed trees that have been worked on as well as walk-in sites. This was a neat campground in that nature was front and center. Tons of moss, deer wandering around, and the slugs! They were HUGE!! No showers here(I don’t think any of the Olympic NP campgrounds have showers), but you can go to the Hot Springs resort and pay for the use of their locker room and showers(and of course the hot springs pools) if you need. There was a great trail to a waterfall as well as three other trailheads either right in the campground or very close. Most sites had picnic tables and firepits, but the sites that were closed due to downed trees did not have tables(maybe removed for tree removal?).

Giving three stars is subjective, but I can't give it a higher rating for RV camping because of how tight the spaces are.  The park itself it worthy of 5 stars easily! The RV lot is really crowded.  You do have a picnic table and fire-ring, but the next one is 15 feet away. At times it can feel like you are at an RV rally being held in a Wal-Mart parking lot.  Before you drive your rig in here, I highly recommend you drive up the road about 50 yards and park in the dump-station lot, then walk back and scout out where your spot is and if you have a clear path to park.  All spaces require backing in and you will often have to ask someone to move their vehicle so you will have enough room to manuever. If you look up Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort on Google Maps and do the Satellite view, you can see the RV campground directly across the river from the pool at the hot springs (they are within easy walking distance to each other).  I've also attached two parking lot pictures. 

Here are some pros and cons and you can decide for yourself:

Pros:  Olympic National Park is absolutely beautiful, and there is so much to see for everyone.  There are several hikes that are easy enough for almost everyone (Rain Forrest, Sol Duc Falls, etc.), and several that are just nice by car.  Of course there are a lot of options for serious backpackers.  The Hot Springs are open (as of May 2021) and you can reserve a time for them every day you are staying in the RV spaces. The park is absolutely beautiful and to see everything requires a lot of driving, so you can use your spot here as a base camp.  The Sol Duc Falls are a relatively easy hike and are nearby.  No matter what campground you stay at in Olympic National Park, be prepared to drive a lot to see other parts of the park.  The hot springs are nice, relaxing, and you can reserve a spot when it is not overly crowded as they have reservation times for RV campers. Also, despite the very crowded campground, most people were very nice and cooperative, and things quite down around 10PM each night.  The dump station I mentioned above is also open. 

Cons:  The RV spacing is very minimal.  We have an Escape19 trailer (no pop-outs) and when we extended our awning, there was about two or three feet left before it encroached on the RV space next door.  One experienced camper pulled in next to us so that when he extended his pop-out it went half-way over the log separating the two spaces.  There are NO RV spaces in any of the nearby campgrounds at Sol Duc, so if you have an RV and want to camp at Sol Duc, this is where you are going to camp.  Also, if your electrical outlet is not working, check with the desk at the Hot Springs as they apparently fail sometimes due to the air from the hot springs.  They were very prompt at fixing our outlet.  The hot springs emit a sulfur odor just like you would experience around an active volcanic area like volcanoes national park in Hawaii.  

Bottom line is the park is awesome and if this is the only RV space you can get, or if the hot springs are very important to you, then by all means stay here. I had a difficult time finding any detailed information about the campground on-line so I just want to make this info available so people are not surprised when they arrive.

The Sol Duc hot springs campground is next door to the hot springs resort in northern Olympic National Park. The campgrounds are often crowded year round due to the popular hot springs as campers are given access to the hot springs pools inside the resort. We went over a chilly rainy weekend in April and had what felt like the whole place to ourselves. The camp sites, while close together, are semi private due to the lush rainforest all around. Starting a fire is difficult, make sure you pack rain gear, and keep your site clean because there are black bears around- however, none of this should stop you! It's a rain forest after all!

 The surrounding forest is pure magic- emerald green and full of old growth evergreen trees. There is an easy nature trail (unpaved and some incline so if you have trouble walking this may not be for you) less than 5 miles from the camp that offers some truly beautiful views of the Sol Duc River. There is also access to the Sol Duc Falls trail directly from Loop B campsites. This trail is fairly difficult coming from camp and is about 6 miles round trip. If you drive up the road a bit you can use the main trailhead for Sol Duc Falls and cut out a lot of the more difficult terrain.

The pools are well maintained ($15 to get in), there’s locker rooms with showers and there’s also a diner. Down the road there’s a short 1 mile hike to the falls!

Very secluded campground deep in the forest near the hot springs resort. The RV sites are literally a gravel parking lot with people parked around the edges. Not bad, but be aware and trailer your expectations. The two tent loops are much nicer, much more nestled in the trees. Small campers and truck campers can fit in many of the tent sites, at the expense of no hookups. Little to no cell service, and no WiFi - perfect for disconnecting from the world.

We stayed in RV site 001 which is the smallest of all the RV sites, our truck camper barely fit. Next time we’d go for one of the tent loops. Lovely area!

Sleeping in the rainforest was absolutely spectacular. This particular camp ground is associated with the hot springs resort however due to covid they weren't allowing anyone to buy a day pass to the hot springs. Also there was an occupancy tax and state tax added to the camping price making it some weird number with change. They offer the "easy" options of donation to round up to whole dollar numbers. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Camp host was nice and bathroom has flush and a sink. i left my toothbrush on the charger overnight in the bathroom and it was fine.

Would stay again

The springs are amazing, the campground is nice. The hot springs pool is large and staff is friendly. This is one of those spots that will leave a lasting impression- we had such a great time here and I can’t wait to return. Changing rooms/bathroom is huge and clean.

Right in the middle of the rain forest and near hot springs and a water fall. This campground was another in Olympic National Park that is so special! It’s one of 3 campgrounds in ONP that you can get a reservation, so be sure to get one unless you’re arriving on a weekday.

This was a pretty cool campground. The only reason that I took one star away is because it was a little crowded, which isn’t really my scene. That’s to be expected though since there’s a hot spring right near there. The hot springs are a little commercialized as they usually are, so I didn’t check that out. The campground was nice though. It had a ton of sites to choose from, tables, fire pits, food storage. I was in a tent but I saw some

Rv sites. 

If you’re looking for something more wild than the hot springs, definitely check our sol duc falls. We did a variation of the trail to make it longer, but I think there was a shorter version that was less than 2 miles. The forest is beautiful and the trail leads to an awesome waterfall. Great place to get out into nature.

We went there first of October. $30 to get inside the park but if you have a America beautiful pass for $80 it’s good for a year. In the RV area with electric hook ups is more like a parking lot Loop b is pretty much tents only. Loop a there are a few decent size sites 14-19 but you better have reservations. It’s $25 a night for the campground. The hike to the falls is nice and not too bad or long.

Spent two days seeing the entire north side of the park from the rain forest to the numerous waterfalls to the amazing beaches!

I arrived after dark and it was rainy. I did spend time at the springs, which was nice. The camping spots are very close together, but the area is scenic.

$22 for a tent site but you will also have to pay or have a park pass to get into Olympic NP. Bathrooms are basic with no showers. Water spigots at restrooms. Sites are level and come with fire ring and table. Quiet and wildlife visible.

One of two reservable campgrounds in Olympic National Park, I chose this because we would be here over a weekend and didn’t want to chance not being able to find a campsite. It’s a long drive in so you would not want to arrive and not find a place to rest your head. By late Friday night, the campground was full. There is an RV section with hookups and two other loops with no hookups. Our site(B70) was a bit awkward and we ended up pulling our van in forward instead of backing in, otherwise our heads would have been lower than our feet. This space could easily accommodate two cars if you were tent camping. Our senior lifetime pass was not accepted at this campground as it was listed as an RV campground. However, upon arrival, I didn’t understand why they called it an RV campground. There were no hookups or other amenities that would make it any different than a tent-only facility in the A and B loops. In fact, many of the sites had pads that would not accommodate anything larger than our 17-foot van. The bathrooms were reasonably clean and had soap. No hot water or showers but again, typical of National Park campgrounds. Quiet hours were not enforced and, in fact, the people in Site 65 were loud until 2:30 am. The next morning, garbage was strewn all over their site, an ax was still stuck in wood, and food was left out all over the table, including a jar of honey(I swear I am not making this up). This campground has signs at the entrance and on every site picnic table that it is an active bear area and how important it is to keep a clean campsite. By 10 am, everyone at the site was still asleep, and neither the camp host nor ranger had done nothing to roust/oust them. (By the time we returned from our hike/soak in the hot springs, they were gone but the people who came after had to clean up the site.) The main draw to this campground is Sol Duc Falls and the hot springs. It is over a six-mile hike roundtrip from the campground to the falls and there is a trail to the hot springs(or you can drive to the trailhead and walk.08 mile to the falls). There is an additional charge for the hot springs($15 for adults,$11 for 62 and older; optional towel rental for$3) but it is so worth it to soak your weary muscles after a hike, despite the crowds. The bonus is being able to take a shower since there are none in the campground. No cell service. We would stay here again only if we wanted to visit Sol Duc Falls or the hot springs but it was not my favorite campground.

We stayed at Sul Duc campground in early June. We stayed at site A-11. It was definitely one of the bigger sites and had more privacy and access to the river. We only had neighbors on one side and a nice grove of trees on the other. There is a bit of a steep incline from where you park your car down to the site. The site isn’t directly on the main river but on a small offshoot but if you are brave enough to walk thru the cold water or over some fallen trees you can get over to the main Sol Duc river - we had it all to ourselves and it was very relaxing! You can hear the river from the site which was nice. We were close to the restrooms and they were decent. You have to get firewood at the Hot Springs Resort - which we thought was too far to walk so we drove up. Their grocery store has ice and firewood and souvenirs and a good selection of essentials if you forgot anything. We skipped the Hot Springs - too crowded and not worth the price. We drove up to the Sol Duc Falls trailhead and walked the 0.8 miles in to see the falls - so amazing! The campground location made it easy to travel to the Hoh Rainforest and Lake Crescent nearby.

Beautiful stay here on Loop B. It was a great place to stay, we would have stayed in a different site, we were in 060 and it was ok, but lots of passersby. Hiking was simple to find and the waterfalls were in plentiful supply. We had a small rodent stuck in the car for a bit, so I wouldn't recommend setting up camp while your car doors remain open. Amateur move for sure. The bathrooms were clean too. Reserve with confidence.

The highlight of Sol Duc was the long loop hike around the waterfalls. We were disappointed with the hot springs as they felt more like a crowded public pool than the wonder of nature that I'm sure they once were. We did enjoy the showers at the hot springs through after a very wet camping day.

The campground is pretty big (80+ sites I believe) and is quite spread out and booked out well in advance. You'll want to take note of the facilities are when you make your reservation. Bookings for the summer through October can be reserved beginning the end of April.

While all the campsites were a vit close on Loop A, we hardly even heard or noticed anyone. It was amazing to fall asleep with the Sol Duc river close by and a nice little hike to the Sol Duc falls simply made this camping weekend amazing!! It made the extreme cold that night so worth it.
