Lake Chelan State Park Campground

About

State Park

Reserve your campsite early, wait for summer with growing anticipation, then join the ranks of visitors who make Lake Chelan a family tradition.

This social camping park pulses with life in the summer. Generations of families return to the blue lake every year; they even try to book the same campsite they've used since the 1960s and '70s. But, while they'll jockey online for their favorite spot, veteran Chelan-goers happily share this gem with first-timers, and many lifelong friendships begin there.

Lake Chelan State Park has a long, sandy beach, shaded picnic tables and a calm lagoon. The 50.5-mile lake, with a depth of 1,486 feet, draws boaters, sailors, anglers, water skiers, windsurfers and seasonal residents. The area features some of the finest hiking trails in Washington, and adventurous hikers make the park their base from which to explore the North Cascades. For visitors hoping to chill out in their camp chairs, float the lagoon in a raft and soak up the homey atmosphere with family and friends, this place cannot be beat.

Lake Chelan State Park is a 139 acre public recreation area and nature reserve located on the southwest shore of Lake Chelan, and on the east side of the Cascade Mountains. In 1942, Washington State made a large land purchase and allocated part of the land for Lake Chelan State Park. Today, the park attracts visitors from all over thanks to its range of camping, picnicking, hiking, boating, and water activities.

Unusual for Washington, this park is known for its expansive 6,000 ft sandy beach, shaded picnic tables and a large, crystal lagoon spanning 55.5 miles in area, with water as deep as 1,486 feet. Subsequently, the lagoon draws boaters, sailors, anglers, water skiers, windsurfers, and fishers as well. Without a doubt, Lake Chelan is the most famous part of this park. However, don’t let its splendor captivate you too long- because there area is full of amazing hiking as well.

In fact, the park features some of the finest hiking trails in Washington, from which adventurous hikers make the park their base to adventure in the North Cascades. If hiking isn’t your thing however, chill out in a camp chairs under a nice shaded tree, paddleboard out to the center of the lagoon, and then finish your day taking in the cozy atmosphere with at your campsite with family and friends. When it comes to fun for everyone, Lake Chelan State Park is sure to please.

While the park is open year round, it really comes alive during the summer. Visiting Lake Chelan is a long standing tradition for many local families and friends. Consequently, as soon as school retires for the summer, swaths of families return to the blue lagoon every year for their annual lake trips and family outings. And you better believe they have a preference for the “family campsite” that they’ve probably used since the 70s. You’ll want to reserve your campsite well in advance if you’re planning to join the ranks of Lake Chelan regulars.

Even then, veteran Chelan-goers happily share their beloved campground with newcomers, and a number of lifelong friendships are formed here. Get your family and friends together, and come make Lake Chelan a new tradition this Summer (or avoid the crowds and visit sooner!)

Wonderful stay

We stayed at Lake Chelan State Patk and had a wonderful experience. We rode our bicycles, but admittedly not a lot of options away from the road. However, we did a lot of kayaking early and later in the day and had a wonderful time. The water was calm like glass and so clear. We stayed in a tent site which was perfect for our campervan. Although we were next to the boat trailer parking lot, really didn't notice the traffic. Friendly staff and clean restrooms.

Beautiful campground

Stayed here with my dog. Beach and swimming area are NOT dog friendly. There are areas to play in the water but it’s not as accessible. Staff was pleasant. Like any other place follow all posted rules.

Great family friendly trip

We had a great time here. We camped in the tent camping side towards the lake (site 89) and had a decent amount of privacy. There was a stream leading to the lake right behind our site which was beautiful and so relaxing to listen to at night. Only downside was the site is fairly dusty/lots of loose dirt. The kids were covered from head to toe. There is a sprinkler in the middle of the site so we really couldn’t move the picnic table to accommodate our tents better or we would have been tripping over the sprinkler. The site next to us (88) also looked amazing and had a good amount of privacy as well. I recommend booking early. I booked in January (for an early June trip), and it was almost full already. There is no privacy in the grassy spots in the center. Nice swim area with plenty of spots to sit, but fairly rocky so don’t forget your swim shoes. Nice playground and plenty of grassy areas for kids to run and play. Great for families. Everyone around seemed very respectful of the quite times.

Beautiful campground on the shores of Lake Chelan

Great option to camp at Lake Chelan about 15 min from Chelan on the quiet south shore. The campground has great water access, boat launching, some waterfront sites (on the west loop) and a quiet family-oriented atmosphere. Clean bathrooms, shower and great cell reception (AT&T).

Beautiful lake, bald eagle flying overhead, geese and deer come in. Our site was facing large open grassy area leading to the lake. We were there late spring and during the week it was very uncrowned and the weather was chilly but clear.

Big State Park with tons of Amenities

If you can get a site on the beach here it's well worth the alarms you have to set on your phone to get them!  The sites are smallish and a little weird shaped but you get direct access to the water.  There is also a loop at the other end of the park that is more standard drive in sites.  The water sites you park at the top and carry your things down to the site so be prepared for that.

Amazing dock system and access to the lake, great day use area where you can rent kayaks and paddleboards.

A small store with hot food, milkshakes and some floaties comes in really handy and the people running it are very nice.

Overall this is a great campground for families, it is quite large and has all the amenities you need to make great memories!

TIP:  Watch for the critters they are ruthless so cover ALL your dry goods!

Great place to camp for watersports

Most of the campsites here are on top of each other. Not much privacy. With that being said the walk in sites along the lake are amazing. The walk in on most of them is not much more than a normal site (down a few steps). Clean bathrooms with flushing toilets and showers. Campsites were clean as well

Best campsite yet!

What else can I say than we truly loved Chelan! We fell in love with this campsite last summer and already have our reservation confirmed for this summer!

This RV and tent campground is huge and we got a spot right on the lake, which was unforgettable! We made fires by the lake and had a very private tent site. The restrooms were quiet and clean, and there is so much to do in the nearby surrounding area! Highly highly recommend!

Great camping for kids

Make sure you've brought your Discovery Pass. Easily reservable online campsites for tent/car camping as well as RV and group sites. Great for kids, as there is a large playground, beach area, and even a camp store with ice cream (and pretty much anything else you'd need including $4 ketchup). ;) It can get pretty hot in the summer, but when temps soar, book site 108. It's a longer walk to the campsite, but it's right next the river amongst the trees and easily sits at about 10 degrees cooler. (Bring warm sleeping gear for this site.)

Mother’s Day Weekend

This was our first time at Lake Chelan since we our new to the PNW. We wanted to go somehwere for Mothers Day since the weather was going to be beautiful! So with this being our son (who is two) first official camping trip we wanted to make sure there would be stuff to keep him occupied. With that being said he had a blast! The water was still a little chilly but he was able to dip his toes in the water and get a little wet. There was also a nice playground for him to play on as well. We got one of the water sites so we had a nice veiw of the lake from our tent 🙂

Close to the lake

This state park is super close to the lake and has the quality amenities of a state park with showers, accessible firewood, and clean toilets. Only down side is that it feels like your neighbor is in your tent due to the proximity of the camp sites, but totally worth it for the lake access.

Great Amenities in a great location...

On the water and next to all of the activities that Chelan has to offer... we love to come out her and instead of staying in the over priced and packed hotels we camped. But don't kid yourself the campgrounds fill out but find your space in the golf courses or out on the water.

Bring your clubs and a floating device of some sort. Even if you only have a floatie you will have a great time!

Lake Chelan State Park

This is more of a state campground than a state park, but it is great little area outside of the tourist crowded city. There are quite a few spots where you have plenty of privacy from your neighbors, which helps with noise since there can be loud teenagers around. The shower/bathroom facilities are not stellar, but hey its a campground shower. The swimming area is nice, with grassy and shoreside areas to lay out. There are also large playfields with courts which people were always welcoming in others to play. The place is busy, but worth the fight to get a spot during the busy season.

25 mile creek unit

This place is, well, its awesome. I had driven by many times but never stopped before now. 25 mile creek is at the end of the south lake shore road on lake chelan and it has some of the most amazing views of the straights and uplake that you can get from shore. the unit is mostly dry camping, with a sewer dump for your trailers. The shower building was very nice and clean. There is a boat launch and marina there so if you are planning on exploring the upper lake area this would be a great base camp. 25 mile creek runs along the west side of the park, take a look you may see salmon spawning if you are there at the right times. this is a great place.

a short 3 hours from seattle on beautiful lake chelan is the Lake chelan state park at First Creek. This park is about 10 miles from town and has tent sites that are right on the lake, its amazing. There is a boat launch and large swimming area. because chelan is such a lake tourist town in the summer, do not expect that this is a quiet serene camping experience. But if you are looking to come to chelan book your site early. Also the fourth of july fireworks show is directly across the lake from the state park.

A charming little town with a beautiful lake, wineries, and plenty of rentals for fun!

This is a wonderful town for staying near the lake. The good news about camping here is you will be near everything you care about when heading out for a weekend of fun! My favorite activity in Chelan is to head over to Lakerider sports and rent a paddle board. You can rent them all day, or for multiple days, and if you have a local with you they give you a great discount. A little warning - don’t try to leave your car at Lakerider sports for too long. Pay attention to the signs! Once you get your paddle board you can put it in the lake and paddle around all day on the smooth water! The best part is you can paddle right over to Campbell's restaurant, pull your board out of the water, and head up for food and a drink. (you can leave your board on the beach with no worries in my experience).

In my experience it's always warmer on the east side of the mountains so be prepared with plenty of cold drinks and sunscreen. Because it's a small town you can pretty much walk, or take a short drive anywhere you’d want to go.

Things you must do in town:

Paddle Board Eat pizza at Local Myth Go Wine tasting at any of the local wineries and enjoy a beautiful view of the lake Laze about on the lake for hours.

I would recommend camping in Chelan to anyone who loves sun, fun, and a relaxation.

Waterfront Camping on popular Lake Chelan

This is a great park and a premium camping location on the popular Lake Chelan. A favorite location for west siders to escape the rain for some guaranteed sunshine in Central Washington.

This little town fills up in the summer time. The lake is filled with boats and all of the hotels and rentals sell out. This campground is a wonderful place to enjoy the area and set up camp. The campground is fantastic and still goes for dirt cheap rates of $12 for a tent site, they also offer full hook ups for RVs and everything in between if you want an outlet at your camp site.

Good news.. you can reserve your spot in advance. Bad news... the summer months fill up a year in advance so book early. I also recommend going in Spring or Fall when the weather is still warm and dry but there are slightly less crowds.

We stayed in site 65 on the marina and beach loop. I definitely recommend this area over the west loop.
