Great little place

Great primitive sites with upgrades bath houses. Camp store has the basics and the staff have always been friendly! Park offers a lake for fishing and kayaking, 5 mile trail around the lake, disc golf, mini golf, carousel, and a cool little train. After all that you can hit up the ice cream parlor.

Nice Wooded Area

This was my second time going Burke Lake and it was just as enjoyable as the first. Some of the sites can look pretty close together, especially if you have more than one tent, but you do have your own space without feeling too cramped. There is no electricity at this site.

My site was close to the bathrooms on the backside (where there is a potable water spout). The bathrooms were pretty clean and were stocked with plenty of toilet paper. If you want a spot closer to the bathroom front side, try looking out around B14 or B15. My mom uses a walker and she is able to walk from our site on the back to the bathrooms as long as she goes slow and looks out for roots. So, the bathrooms are in walking distance if you can only make a short walk to get to the bathrooms. Regarding a handicap accessible stall, none seemed to be handicap*, but I didn't open all of them to check. *If I am incorrect just let me know and I will edit the review*

The actual sites and campground is nice. There is a field and a small trail you can walk to get to the actual lake circuit. The camp store at the sites was closed already on 10/30, which surprised us because we went the same weekend last year and the store was still open. If you are camping here at the end of October I recommend making sure you have brought enough wood just in case the store is closed and you cannot quickly buy more.

The fire ring does not have a grill included, but there is a separate charcoal grill as seen in my picture with the tent. If you have a big enough grill grate however, you can put it over the fire or balance it on the ring (which we were able to do).

A fun little note: I don't know much about foraging, but if you go at the right time of year (which I guess was kind of now) you can find some fun nuts and mushrooms to look at and find. *DO NOT EAT ANYTHING WITHOUT BEING 100% SURE WHAT IT IS* Please note I said look at and find NOT eat!!!

Nice facility and great view from the lake

Nice camp ground easy to register and with nice facilities(toilet&bath). There are 5g signal for T-mobile. Camp sites are pretty close and no much block between sites. Many bugs around my site even in Oct, maybe because site near water. Daddy long legs are queued up to enter my tent. Better prepare some pesticide.

Nice campground and spots

Some campgrounds are close to trails and they are separated nicely so you have room to set up extra things. The campground sites are pretty big in length as well. Will come back many more times.

Nice Campground at very reasonable price

We stayed Burke lake campground for one night last week. It was very peaceful place. The whole camp ground was very clean and well kept. It was nice to stay outside of DC away from the hustle and bustle. The staff was very nice and there to answer all my crazy questions.

Grew Up Going Here

Beautiful Park. Not much to do. Close to DC, but still far away. In suburbia

No Security

When a bunch of high schoolers decide to party till 3AM, there's no one to call. Your only option is to call 911, but it's not technically an emergency so you have to call the the non-emergency number and leave a message.

Then, at 6AM the walking groups start on the trail, so be prepared to listen to their shitty music.

Burke Lake Park Camping

I lived in this area on and off for the past 20 years and I recently found this camping area. I have visited this state run park countless times for all the different activities, golf, fishing, boat rentals, bike/hike trail, exercise course, playgrounds they even have a mini train ride that goes around part of the park.

The reason I did not know of the camping spot is because the camping area is located in the very back corner away from all the activity spots. The camping area is 2 small loops where I think maybe 40 sites are available. The camping spots are primitive no running water or electricity at your campsite but they do have communal bath house with water, restrooms and showers.

FYI this park is located in the middle of suburbia in Burke Va.

Nice Trails to run around

I visited this park to go for a run while I was visiting DC. The trail around the lake is a bit under 5 miles, but it's all trail. There is almost no elevation gain, and it is not very technically rigorous. The park is definitely more geared toward day use than overnight camping, though there is a small camping area that has pretty good facilities. Watch out for XC runners in the fall though-- they have a course at the park that gets used for races on Saturdays in the fall.

Convenient and expansive!

Located close to George Mason University, host to many high school cross country meets, this park has a beautiful lake with a 5-mile gravel walking/running/biking trail around the lake's perimeter. You are not supposed to swim in the lake but you can take out boats (there is a boat launch). Campgrounds are nice, located in the woods along the lake and have access to decent bathrooms. Recommend for a quick weekend away and for kids!

A taste of the outdoors in the middle of neighborhoods

Great place for a quick night out camping in an easy to get to location. If you are looking for seclusion this is not the place for you but if you just want a quick night out camping at the last minute, this is a good choice.
