Overview

Red Cliffs Recreation Area includes a campground, day use areas, a non-motorized trail system, and interpreted public use sites. Dinosaurs left their footprints, now visible in the sandstone. Located within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, the Recreation Area is managed to conserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of the public lands.__

Recreation

The Red Reef Trail follows Quail Creek into the Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness and is a very popular hike in the spring when seasonal runoff fills water pockets and plunge pools in the stream channel. There are many other trails in the Recreation Area that are scenic and enjoyable for hikers and mountain bikers, for shorter, moderately difficult rides. The White Reef Trailhead accommodates both large and small horse trailers, making it an ideal place for equestrians to start a longer distance ride on the Prospector Trial which connects to the equally popular Church Rocks Trail for extended riding.

You may see a flock of Gambel___s quail or hear canyon wrens as you hike the trails the follow Quail and Leeds Creeks. If you___re lucky, you might spot a Mojave desert tortoise or a Gila monster, whose beaded skin and bold color patterns make it a standout among desert reptiles. Fairytale Campground

Like waking up in a fairytale! Beautiful scenery surrounds you. No hookups, but can run your generator 9-9. Not for big rigs! You must be under 11’9 to go through the tunnels on the way. Spaces are tight. We are in an Airstream Interstate X and pull a Jeep. Barely fit. If your rig fits, it’s awesome!

Beautiful and quiet spot close to town

Loved this campground. Lucked out with a last minute reservation and got a fantastic spot right below a trail that leads to dinosaur footprints in the sandstone. The entire campground was clean and well maintained and spaces were far enough apart to not feel cramped even the campground was full. If you camp with pets, especially dogs, I recommend protective booties because there are goatheads everywhere in the grass and bushes.

A small but wonderful campground! Best to reserve a site well in advance. I was grateful for cold running water at each site; There’s also covered picnic tables & fire pits. All except camp site #2 has drive-up parking. Lots of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Extremely busy on the weekends but there’s reserved parking spots for camping.

Beautiful red rocks setting

This BLM Campground is a beautiful area, nested in the red cliffs and with hiking MTB trails right from the cg. Reservations only as of 2021 (this cg used to be all FF). 11 sites, vault toilets, dumpsters, water spigots scattered around. Cell signal is very good for TMobile, not so good for Verizon or ATT. $15/7.50 senior but all sites have to be reserved online at recreation.gov. Sites 6, 7, 8 and 11 best for TTs. Note there is no RV dumpsite NOTE: you have to go under the interstate thru two narrow concrete tunnels, they are 11.9 high, so be careful, many large RVs, 5th wheels, Class As will not fit!!

Great BLM campground

Update 10.2021. Entire CG is now Reserve Only.

11 sites, $15 night/7.50 senior. 14d limit. Water spigots, dumpsters, vault toilets. No campground host on site but BLM ranger or County Sheriff patrols through. Day use parking for the popular hikes. Very busy during spring break and fall seasons. Access is under I-15 thru two concrete tunnels...11ft 9in height so be warned that taller 5th wheels and Class As will not likely be able to access this campground, and contrary to another review there is no back way in. Stunning red cliffs, numerous hiking and mt biking trails, anasazi settlement and dino tracks. Creek runs thru middle of campground.

Decent, but crowded.

This was a nice little place. Less than a dozen sites, only some with water, none with power. All site have covered picnic tables. Accepts interagency passes for 50% off camping.

The proximity to St. George and the easy and scenic trails, mean that it was very busy during the day with day use hikers.

There are a number of things that make this site stand out. There is a Native American archeological site, a few different spots with dinosaur tracks, horse and bike trails, and a creekside trail through a slot canyon with a number of pools deep enough for swimming.

Awesome place

This a cool spot that seems to be off the radar a little bit. I use this spot when I want to go to zion which is only a 30 min drive from red cliffs. Zions camp spots are alway reserved in advance. I've personally never had to do deal with not finding an open spot at this camp ground. Theirs also a lake and hiking trails super close by. And if you forget something or need something theirs a walmart and gas station 10 mins away. They only down side is I wouldn't camp here mid summer when its 90+ at night, it's super hot almost unbearable to sleep in.

Beautiful location

Red Cliffs is a popular location for locals out of St George for day hikes and school outings because of its geological significance and fossilized dinosaurs prints. There are 11 camping sites that have shade structures, picnic benches, and fire rings. Water faucets are located convenient to each site and bathrooms are vaulted. There is lots of traffic throughout the day with day visitors but evenings are peaceful. Not conducive to large RV’S. The campground fills up regularly so plan for an alternate. KOA is just down the road.

Go after rain

It's a beautiful campground and a short distance from Zion National Park. Unfortunately when I went, I believe the water was being redirected for agricultural use because the water was fairly stagnant, being that the stream was essentially dried up. The campsites are fairly spacious though, accessible by paved roads. Each site also comes with a fire pit, in addition to having a covered "dining" area as well. Biggest downfall for me was no available showered, although each site does have access to running water.
