Overview

Pine Lake Campground is located next to its scenic namesake lake high on the Colorado Plateau at an elevation of 8,100 feet. Visitors enjoy canoeing, fishing and exploring local hiking and off-road vehicle trails.

Recreation

A short trail leads from the campground to Pine Lake, which offers excellent canoeing and kayaking, as well as fishing for rainbow, cutthroat and brook trout. Hiking and off-road vehicle trails are plentiful within the area, however off-road vehicles are not allowed in the campground. The Pine Lake OHV Trailhead is located adjacent to the campground. A loading ramp is provided.

Natural Features

Pine Lake is situated at the foot of beautifully forested peaks banded with red and white layers of sandstone. The campground is nestled among a forest of spruce and towering ponderosa pines, and is adjacent to Pine Lake.

Nearby Attractions

Bryce Canyon National Park is approximately 30 minutes from the campground, offering breathtaking scenery and excellent hiking opportunities. Kodachrome Basin State Park is an hour away, with towering rock spires, a natural arch and great hiking trails.

Directions

Travel Utah Highway 12 to the junction with SR 63 and CR 1660. Turn north at sign pointing toward Antimony. Travel 10.5 miles and turn right at Pine Lake turnoff. Travel 5.5 miles on a gravel road to the campground.

Awsome out of the way campsite

We loved the spacious campsite and that they are well spaced a part. The tree cover is a plus. Although not in the park there is a lake good for kayaking and fishing. Plenty of sites for large rigs.

2 day stay

We had spot number 27. Not a bad spot however just be aware it was one of a few spots that have the picnic table and fire pit ring on the right side if facing the campsite. I had to pull forward and do some maneuvering to unhook and get my truck out.

Bathrooms and campsite were clean. Camp host was nice. Pine lake is a 5 min walk which was nice for paddle boarding and letting the dogs run around.

Peaceful Pine Lake

I've been coming to Pine Lake for nearly 50 years. The campground have changed a bit over the years, more spaces, but otherwise much the same as it's always been.

Secluded sites, you rarely see into the sites near you. Fire rings, log fence around the campground. Good fishing and boating the lake. Range cattle, chipmunks, jays and ospreys are the common critters around.

Vault toilets (very clean) and centralized water taps.

Pine Lake Campground

We stayed 4 nights at this place. There are no showers and the restrooms are non flushable. There is water located in designated areas. No hookups or dump stations. You have to head towards Bryce Canyon to dump. Garbage is also disposed of off the main road before heading on the road where the campsites located. The hosts were very nice and answered any questions we had. Bugs weren’t bad, but it is a campground mainly used for fishing and people that have side by sides so it can get noisy. If I had a side by side id definitely bring it here to tear up some trails and do disperse camping. Do not I repeat do not take your big rig up Powell Point it will take you awhile to find a spot to turn around and come back down. My grandparents did this with their travel trailer which is 27 in length and they tore up their stairs underneath. All in all I’d stay again.

Great out of the way campground. Free spots also nearby.

Lots of space, seclusion and natural beauty. There are quite a few free dispersed camping spots leading to the actual campground. Either way, a nice spot near Bryce.

Remote enough dry camping close to Bryce

We stayed here in our 18ft travel trailer for 4 nights over Labor Day weekend. That 5 mile drive on the gravel road to get to the campsite is no joke — tie down everything that can be tied down — but once you’re there, the sites are relatively well-spaced, there’s good tree cover at most sites (some are more exposed than others), and the toilets are clean.

The lake was pretty low when we got there, but there’s easy enough access from the campsite.

From our brief time there, it seemed like this was the best camping in the area if you want something remote enough to feel like you’re camping. A lot of the other campgrounds in the area felt like parking lots. If you don’t care about fresh water access or toilets, there’s a lot of boondock sites right off the dirt road.

Beautiful lighting for pictures

All the reviews are spot on, so I won’t bore you with my details. However, the bugs were relentless. On one occasion, a horsefly bit through my husbands shirt, so be sure to pull out of the bug repellent hacks you can find!

We visited mid-June of 2017...that’s when the massive Brian Head fire happened. We got some ashes at the campsite, but were still able to enjoy the visit.

Wooded, Well Spaced, On a Creek, near a Lake

With 32 sites and multiple additional Group Sites this is a hidden gem near Bryce Canyon National Park.

Some of the best sites are walk in only, but many are reserve-able online in advance.

The camp host sells wood for $7 a bundle and they are smaller sized pieces and there is not any real foraging in the campground (surrounded by a fence to keep out free ranging cattle. You can forage for firewood in the national forest outside the fence ...

Lots of ATV and boaters use this campground

AMAZING!!!

Absolutely beautiful. The trees against the sand stone is gorgeous. The lake was so pretty. I can’t even describe how beautiful this area is. There are two loops in the campground. The upper loop is for reservations only. The bottom loop is first come first serve. Bathrooms were clean and water spigots throughout the campground. There are dumpsters at the very end of the road on the way out which is super nice and convenient. A walking trail leads around the lake. Lots of ATV trails nearby. Bryce Canyon is only 30 min away. This has definitely become our new favorite spot.

Beautiful lake camping

the drive in takes a while- slow on gravel. Lake is absolutely beautiful. The vault toilets were clean and the hiking was pristine. We'll be back when its better swimming weather!

Spectacular setting in the National forest

Dry camping at it's finest. Less than 20 miles to Bryce canyon NP. Huge sites, handles big rigs. Lake has fish. Plenty of off road opportunities.views of Powell Point are within a short drive.

Pine Lake Campground, UT

Conveniently located near Pine Lake. This small lake is great for fishing & kayaking; however, it is always windy. The campground is definitely off the beaten path, but at 8100' elevation it's a great place to beat the heat. Sites can be all sun or all shade. Many first come first serve, which is good for a last minute trip. Clean bathrooms, water at taps, no hookups, no cell service, and closes for the winter by mid-Sept. p.s. You can camp there when it's closed (bathrooms open, water locked), but it's really spooky to be the only ones there.
