Great base camp

We loved the large tent pads and covered dining area with pantry (yes, a pantry!). The staff kept the campground clean and tidy. We found it to be an excellent base camp while exploring the Moab area, including Arches and Canyonlands.

Nicely laid out campground

General & Site Quality: 56 electric sites, walk-in tent sites, and nine yurts in two loops: Kayenta and Wingate. Paved driveways, mostly level, a tent pad, fire ring, and a sheltered picnic table (from sun and wind) complete the electric sites. Back-in sites are on the inside of the loops while pull-thru sites are on the outside. There were three camp hosts in the Wingate loop, more than I usually see.

Bathhouse: Eight individual units in each loop with toilet, sink, soap, and hand dryer. Although the toilets were automatic flush, they didn’t always do the job and often took multiple tries. One toilet was clogged. There are also some vault toilets. No showers.

Activities: Nice and easy hiking trails. You can hike the west rim and east rim trails to make a loop for approximately five miles (depending on how many overlooks you include). Some trails are better marked than others, but we enjoyed a west-to-east rim hike from and returning to our campsite in Wingate. Designated mountain biking trails.

Unfortunately, we could only snag one night here but would have liked to have stayed longer.

Expensive but good

$50 is a lot for a campsite but the bathrooms are clean and the visitor center has Wi-Fi. They have trash bins but you have to bring your own water. No showers. Convenient location.

Very clean and amazing views

First, camp sites at Kayenta were very clean. I’ve never seen a fire pit perfectly cleaned out like they were. As soon as people left they raked the surrounding area and cleaned the site. Location was close to trails and absolutely amazing views.

Well-maintained State Park.

We had to recharge our house battery and our VW van so we stopped in to this park for an evening. Unfortunately, no showers but overall the park is really well-maintained and clean. Excellent bathrooms. Excite sites. Not close together. Would definitely come again.

Not to be missed. So scenic. Plenty of hiking options. Especially beautiful at sunrise and  sunset- with the added benefit of cooler temperatures in the summer. Camp sites make use of the limited land available well. Highly recommended.

In a word, fabulous.

For years I visited Dead Horse Point State Park, but only last year after I bought a camper van did I stay there. Undeniably one of my favorite places. It’s a little pricey to camp, but worth it in my opinion. Bring water as there is none at the two campgrounds. The restrooms are clean with flush toilets. Hiking is over the top spectacular on the trail adjacent to the campground.

Very nice campground in an outstanding park.

The Kayenta campground can accept all size rigs but larger ones would be better in the newer campground up the road.

We liked being able to hike right from the campground.  The hosts kept the part amazingly clean.  The location is great for visiting the Island in the Sky part of Canyonlands NP.

We would stay again.  We were there at the end of October/early November for 4 days and that wasn't enough.

Incredible views

This is one of two CG's in Dead Horse SP. They are within walking distance to each other. Kayenta is the older one. The hosts take really good care of this place. The fire pit and grill were totally clean. The pad with sun shade was swept and the gravel was even raked. The sunscreen was nice to have and the pad was concrete with the picnic table. It was all easily accessed from the parking spot which was paved. The tent area looked nice to but we didn't use that. There was power at the site and water available around the CG. The restrooms were some of the cleanest we've ever seen. You will need to get a reservation for this CG. It fills up pretty quick during the high volume seasons. The CG has trails leading right from the site to the rim of the canyon. You can do 5+ miles if you wish all the way up and around the point. Like I said some incredible views of the canyon and Colorado river below.

Has everything but showers

Great spot at Dead Horse state park in between Canyonlands (15 minutes) and Arches (30 minutes). Has shade cover (with lockable pantry cupboard!), picnic table, fire pit, grill, tent pad, and electric hookup. Most people had RVs and there was a waste site at the entrance. We were tent camping two nights and enjoyed our stay. The bathroom was a bit of a walk from our site #18 (located by site #9), but they were individual rooms with flush toilet and sink. There was also a sink washing/water bottle filling station. We would definitely stay here again.

Fabulously Close to Moab

This campsite was the perfect spot to rest in between visits to Canyonlands NP and Arches NP, as well as Moab, UT. It only had community water and no showers, so that was slightly inconvenient, but the location was perfect.

Great site and great views!

Extremely close to canyonlands national park if you don’t get a site inside of the park. Each site has its own little hut and picnic table at it. They offer both electric and non electric sites. All in all a great experience. Would recommend to anyone heading out to canyonlands.

Awesome Campground

This campground/park is awesome!  The campground is well spaced out and has nice pads for tents.  It also has nice covered picnic tables.  The bathrooms have full plumbing and there is an area to wash any dishes you may have.

Couldn’t ask for a cooler location.  The campground is right on the edge of a canyon and a small drive/walk will take you to spectacular views.

Kayenta Campground: A Desert Oasis

While this was a bit more expensive ($43) than we are accustomed to paying for a campsite, we opted to stay here due to the close proximity to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. That said, after spending a night in the campground and exploring the park the following day, we felt it was well-worth the cost.

Our campsite was private and had its own picnic table and shelter, which included a light and lockable cupboard for food and other items. Each campsite has a fire pit and grill, though we used neither due to the burning ban. The bathrooms were very clean. Kayenta has some spectacular views, especially at sunset. Overall, five stars from us!

Beautiful views, small campground w/ privacy

Book in advance as it fills up quickly! Dead Horse Point is a beautiful state park that looks like a smaller version of the Grand Canyon. The campground is small but there is some privacy between sites. We camped in our tent but saw RV's and campers there. There was a picnic table under a roof so we had some shelter when it rained.

A quiet little peace of heaven

There arent many amenities in any of the campgrounds in this part of the country. The best review I can give is that the pit toliets are very clean and big. Its so quiet and dark at night that u can hear everything and aee every star! It truly is heaven. There r bike trails in the campground. Im not a rider so I can't review them but a lot of people used them as my site was next to the trail head.

Amazing Views, great state park camping close to Moab, Arches, Canyonlands

We LOVED Dead Horse Point State Park. Reserved a site here for two nights to explore the park itself, as well as nearby Moab. We were lucky to get a reservation!! The sites were fairly private given the lack of trees, etc. Each site had a covered picnic table area and a pantry that locked shut. We made the mistake of leaving a styrofoam cooler out when we went hiking - the Ravens pecked it to shreds!!! Warning - don't leave ANYTHING out. We didn't see the signs warning of this until afterward, oops!

The sites have a level tent pad area, as well as a fire pit. Access to the rim trail around the canyon is right off the campground and is well worth the hike - beautiful views!! Bathrooms were clean and there was a dishwashing sink station at it as well which was handy. Each campsite had an electrical hookup. Seemed a mix of some RV's, campervans, and tents. Very quiet at night. The sunset was spectacular, and the night sky there was the most beautiful I have ever seen!! The dark desert skies and elevation on a clear night was just amazing. We sat out for hours around our campfire stargazing. Canyonlands is very close, and Moab/Arches is a pretty short drive. We were on a tight timeframe, so we only had time to explore Dead Horse Point itself after arriving from Bryce Canyon, and Moab/Arches the next day. I definitely want to come back out to explore Canyonlands, and will probably include a stop back at this park/campground!

Dead horse is great for views but your park pass does not work here. The campgrounds are prior to the fee entrance which is great. We were here in July and it was HOT. Lots of people here especially with the tour buses at the Dead Horse lookout onto their canyon.
