Good location

Good location for Capitol Reef. Need to arrive early to get a spot. Super crowded but we landed a spot away from everyone and no one can park near us. Two bars Verizon.

BLM near capital reef

Wow, what epic views from this convenient BLM dispersed road near Torrey and Capital Reef! Very convenient off the main road with lots of space. Only down side was that it was pretty windy and cold being exposed on the ridge in March but the views were worth it! Some spots down the hill a bit protected by some trees if needed. Nice established rock fire rings scattered about as well.

Lovely scenic spot for boondocking

Great spot for an overnight stay. Beautiful! Peaceful and close to Capitol Reef NP!

Had trouble getting level but we got close. No cell reception. We had Starlink. Easy drive from the main highway to the spots, looked like a maintained dirt road.

We went for cold weather to snow overnight. We were able to get out of there okay with a F250 without using 4WD.

No bathrooms, self contained. We had a neighbor! Would totally camp here again

Plenty of space

It was the night of the “ring of fire” eclipse and it was busy but there was still plenty of space. Easy to drive through.

Right off the highway, a ton of spots, many other campers and lots of RVs. Seems popular and well known.

Nice little spot

This is good spot to stop in. It has several spots, not super cramped but you will most likely have neighbors. Several large rigs and trailers. I am camping from my truck so I was able to get a little further off the path to avoid some of the generator noise.

Bea's Lewis Flats Dispersed / Capitol Reef NP

Torrey, UT

14nts May/June 2023

GPS: 38.2940056, -111.3860725

Elev: 6,857'

Propane Fill: Blackburn Propane (aka Howie's Svc Sta) Bricknell, UT

(Campground in town has a fill station, but has it posted as 'not available', Visitor's Center directed us to Bricknell).

Dump: Fruita Campground $5, has potable water & trash at the Dump station. Loop A/B, 1ST left after CG entry.

Water: Fruita Campground, or Phillips 66, east side of building

Laundry: Chuckwagon, $2 Wash, $2 Dry

Groceries: Chuckwagon, limited. Royal's in Loa, small regular grocery store.

Cell: Verizon 4b / ATT 3b

OTA: 35 channels

Stayed here 14nts over Memorial Day weekend. A little crowded over the holiday, but late arrivals were still able to find spots. Could see others in the distance, but never felt crowded. Had a few over nighters park a bit close, but to be expected as we only went as far back as Breakoff One. There is a LOT of space further on if you have decent  clearance.

ROAD OPTIONs:

After the cattle guard going straight: Lots of space here for all size rigs - even a semi towing a 5th wheel. Nice view of the cliffs across the highway. This area is the busiest area as it is easy in/out for overnighters. Not RV Park close, but you will see and possibly hear your neighbors on the weekends. Weekdays fairly spread out.

After the cattleguard turning right: That wash is no joke.

We're a 34' long 5th wheel and made it through, but did scrape the passenger side butt .... gotta love doing in field repairs.

The wash is deceptive, sloping entry isn't too bad, a steeper incline coming out is a challange for longer or low clearance rigs. The real challange is that it 'S curves' pretty sharply while you're going through it and the slab rocks at the bottom of the wash you cleared entering, are now to the side behind your wheel catching jacks or rear corner... if that makes sense? Had 1 other 5th wheel up here, a few TT of size and lots of smaller vans, truck tents, tents etc, but no one longer than 35' that I could see. Not sure a CA or CC could make the wash AND curve with no pivot point? Scout it out before entering. Great for small van, cars, tents though. Lots of space for privacy, especially going back further.

Trash: Our site was very clean with the exception of right after Memorial Day. Lots of tp & wipes blowing down the road after all the holiday campers. The entrance off 24 is a different story. Lots of burned cans, broken glass etc.... this is also not the camping area as far as i can tell? It is before the Limited Use sign and cattle guard... although no one was running people off, and there were several camped there.

Ranger came through Friday before Memorial Day, and we saw them pass through last weekend. Did not see any 'permanant campers' even in the remote areas when we went bike riding.

So will we  be back? Yep, it is beautiful here, easy access to park and hikes, charming small town...Saturday Farmer's Market was fun, Slackers expensive but good..... when in the park, BUY THE PIE. As a matter of fact, buy one or two to take home. Seriously delicicious!

Next time we will either opt for the easy road, or more likely, do a much better scouting of that wash.... the view out all windows was worth the boo boo!

10/15min out of Capitol reef!! You can see it from the road , the dirt road is super accessible as it pretty packed down. We arrived on the weekend so it was busy but there was still plenty of spots. Our old rv was very happy with the road & condition of the sites. 10/10 recommend!

Capitol Reef Boondocking

Just off of the main Hwy (24), road is in good shape. No clearance or 4WD needed. Plenty of open spaces for big rigs, we pull a 39ft fifth wheel and had lots of places to choose from. Spectacular views of the backside of Capital Reef Ntl Park. Stayed for a weekend and only saw 2-3 other campers. Perfect place to view the stars and the Milky Way! Great Dark Sky area for photography. Also had great cell service!

Lovely Views

We stayed here five days, four nights. We made the mistake of setting up our rig towards the edge of the canyon, and thus we had to deal with a lot of wind. There were other sites further away from the ridge that were much less windy. To one side there is a rock quarry and during the daytime you can hear heavy machinery moving around. But it’s quiet at night. At the entrance there is some debris, but if you just keep going the campsite becomes nicer. There are many sites with plenty of space in between campers. We were here on a heavy school holiday weekend.

Not bad for a quick spot to stay

I stayed at a site closer to the highway for a night, a good amount of noise but not too bad. I turned left before the cattle guard, but I imagine there are a lot more sites further on. Road was fine for my Nissan Versa. Very windy when I stayed here.

Beautiful Views and Close to Capitol Reef

We stayed here just short of a week in late March to visit the park. There are plenty of larger spots for big rigs, and some smaller spots that would fit camper vans etc. Sites seemed generally level, but there was some broken glass along the sides of some of the roads.

We camped on the edge of the canyon rim and had beautiful views looking down into Capitol Reef and the mountain range on the other side. Cell service with both ATT and Verizon was very good here. I was able to work and stream content without any issues.

There was one day that was VERY windy here. It was windy in the whole area, but especially on the canyon rim. I would definitely stay here again though!

Great spot close to Capitol Reef NP

Arrived here at night and had no problem finding the area. Well-maintained dirt roads and plenty of places to camp. It’s just off the highway so there is a little bit of noise but overall it’s not too bad. Given that is close to the highway it’s very convenient for a quick place to stay overnight.

Most of the sites seem relatively level and there is good AT&T cell reception here. Would recommend for anyone coming through on there way to Capitol reef.

Perfect spot outside of Capitol Reef

We loved this spot! Lots of roads leading to spaced out campsites. Going past the cattle grate definitely leads you to spots further away from the road. There were quite a few other people there but it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Beautiful view and lots of juniper trees. About 15 minutes from Fruita and the visitor center. Less than 5 minutes into the town of Torrey. We would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful, not difficult

This was the only dispersed site in the area we found easy enough to access. It has nice loops to turn around, flat areas, and beautiful views. This was also the only spot we saw other campers which is a good sign. Theres avout 7 other campers in the nearby area but not close enough to be a bother. Plenty of room out here. The wind is great and the temperatures are perfect.

Dispersed, no ammenities. There are a few big rigs out here so should be accessible to anyone.

Great spot on BLM lands

This is a not so hidden gem of a camping spot for you and your family. Miles of trails leading to sites. Many very dispersed. Obviously no hookups but some of the beat views, sun rises, sun sets in or around Capitol Reef. Plus the lack of crowds made this very enjoyable. With a pass like America the beautiful, you may stay for 14 days. Enjoy!

Beautiful boondocking between Torrey and Capitol Reef NP

We spent a week along Beas Lewis Flat Road just outside of Torrey, to explore Capitol Reef National Park. This is free BLM dispersed camping with a 14-day stay limit, no sites or services provided. The first camping areas off of UT-24 get crazy busy, to the point that it looked more like a crowded RV park than a peaceful boondocking area; however, make a right just past the cattle grate and you can go several miles back in, in search of solitude. Just after making that right there's a small dry wash to cross that requires some clearance and decent approach/departure angles, but other than that the condition of the road is superb. Views stretch to the red rock cliffs north of UT-24 from Torrey to the National Park, including Capitol Reef itself and the Henry Mountains beyond. Cell service was solid on both Verizon and AT&T, and we had no issues working on VPN from our location or streaming HD video. There's a small general store in Torrey with a few staples and even a laundry available, but the nearest small-town supermarket is in Loa, 18 miles west of Torrey. We found the prices there to be reasonable given the location. You may get water and dump at the Fruita Campground inside the National Park for $5.
