Loeb State Park is located 8 miles east of Brookings on the North Bank Chetco River Road off Highway 101 at the south end of Brookings city limits in Curry County on Oregon’s south coast. Turn east on the north end of the Chetco River bridge, then stay to the right.

A Favorite

One of my personal favorites. The Chetco River is just steps away for fishing or water play. Nice trail nearby that winds through a young Redwood Forest. The trail along the River is really nice too. The campground is extremely well maintained and restrooms/showers are clean. Hosts take pride in caring for the campground. It’s sitting in a Myrtlewood grove. It’s also close to Brookings but you are 7 miles back away from the coast so it’s a bit warmer.

Beautiful park

Clean park with some hidden beachfront spots! They have a sand volleyball court and tons of blackberries everywhere. I did not use the bathrooms, since I have an RV. They have an outdoor foot shower area I did use, it was super convenient coming from the river 😉 We would definitely return here again. Oh, and they sell woof after 5pm, $5 a bundle. Also, sell helmets for the kiddos!

Peaceful

We have been here for eight day and wish we could stay longer. The campground is a beautiful place to stop and relax. Is is located next to a river where you can swim. Lots of places to walk and hike. Lots of fun. For us it is one of the best state parks on the Oregon coast.

Amongst the trees

We were having difficulties finding a campground that wasn't full at the beginning of the 4th of July weekend. We ended up here and the staff were incredibly nice. There were reservations beginning the next day and the staff let us stay in one for the night. There was plenty of privacy, hook-ups for RV's (we tent camp), no-fee showers, clean restrooms, and an easy walk down by the river. We would definitely stay here again.

Neat little park!

We changed our plans at the last minute after hearing that there are redwoods in this part of the state. So glad we did! Nicely laid out park with plenty of vegetation between sites affording privacy. Very nice staff! The road to the park doesn’t get a lot of traffic, so not too noisy. Our site, 011, was easy to get into with our 40’ 5th wheel.

Beautiful location, awesome amenities

One of the best places we have camped at in the Oregon Coast and so close to amazing attractions. The bathrooms have flush potty’s, the showers are no fee, and super nice. There is no sewer dumping at the park, so plan accordingly. They do have grey water dumping, trash, drinking water, and electricity.

If your going to stay at this park here’s some tips for sites we thought were the best and worst, along with some fun places to visit.

Avoid sites: 22- Floods 33-If you have small children due to the water runoff being directly through the camp 34- Floods 36, 6 and 4-if tent camping it turns into one big wet spot

Avoid 52, 12 and 13 there horribly packed together

Best spots: 47- seems like one of the best spots with a fan hobbit hole at the back nice and level parking fairly secluded looking forest area and centrally located near the restrooms and other facilities 11, 10, 9, 8, 25- are fantastic spots pretty far from the bathrooms 16 and 17- are nice locations and near facilities

Best places to visit: Harris Beach had the best tides pools and sunsets. Use the top parking lot and walk down the long path for the best tide pools. Use the bottom parking lot for the best sun set.

Lone Beach was a great place to wander around, had some tide pools, and great picnic areas.

Pistol River Scenic Viewpoint was so much fun. One side is a calm river, on the other side of the sand dunes you have the ocean surf. There were so few people my kids and dog ran around for hours.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park was a maniacal place to explore. We enjoyed hours of easy hikes through the trees and groves.

All of these places were about 30 minutes from the camp ground.

All the amenities

I was really looking forward to staying here but left disappointed. Let's start with the good. The river is spectacular! We spent hours hanging in our tubes and swimming. There are showers, flush toilets and all the hookups you need. There are also cute cabins, which I wish we would have done. Now the bad. We pulled into an open spot and decided to go look at the river to decide if we wanted to stay. We couldn't have been down there 10 minutes, only to return to a note on our car from the campground host to pay immediately. And the family across from us wanted to know when we'd be leaving. A very rude and awkward way to start our time there. Let's just say they were not the friendliest neighbors. The camp filled up quickly and there was lots of activity among other campers at night, which made it hard to sleep. So if you are looking for peaceful and secluded this is not the spot. It caters to RV's, families and people that think they're "camping." I don't think we'd return. We would prefer the dispersed camping a bit down the river.

RV friendly but 1 or 2 OK tent sites

Camped here one night, using van/tent. I would not usually come to an RV centered camp ground like this but there was little else available in the area. Its a 8 mile drive up a nice windy( paved) road from Brookings so not far from supplies and gas.

I got extremely lucky in that the camp was almost full but i got space#11..which was the best i saw for tent camping. quite private..most of the other spaces are wide open.

Hosts were not noticed..which i like, bathrooms were clean and flushing. Very near the roadwhich was surprisingly busy with large pick ups even after midnight..i guess heading to the ther river side camp sites further up into the forest.

Last site available

I would say this park is definitely geared more for those who have RV’s. It was a Friday at 2 pm and I got last site available. No trees, no grass, and the ground was so hard I had to soak ground to get stakes in for tent. It was pretty loud till at least midnight. There was a ton of dogs so if you don’t have one that’s trained I would suggest not taking it here. The bathrooms were kept clean. The river access is great and the day use space is nice with lots of picnics tables. You can pay with card at this place which was great cause I never carry cash.

Great for Family or just to relax

Great Campground. First come first serve unfortunately. The fresh water river leading to the ocean is awesome and kids can swim across with no problem. Another huge bonus is you are minutes away from the beach. I highly recommend this campground!

Along the river and redwoods

North side of Chetco River. 8 miles east of Brookings. First come First Serve. BE there early, people try to save spots for friends but you better be paying for the spot. We stayed for one night, by the next morning as we were loading up, kids were riding their bikes saw we were going to leave and one stayed by while the other went to get parents, who checked with us and went to pay for the spot we were vacating. $24 a night with water and elec. $7 for extra vehicles. Do have three cabins that are reservable through ReserveAmerica. You are close to a Redwood Natural Trailhead loop. From campground to trailhead is .8 miles, then a 1.2 mile loop. Round trip 4miles, can drive up to park at trailhead. This was the only Oregon State Park that would not allow fires at the time we visited.

Southern Oregon Paradise

Great cabins overlooking the river! This site is close enough to make day trips to the beach and Brookings for any forgotten supplies or for dinner if you do not feel like cooking. We will be returning!

Great spot to start

Electric and water hook ups. No sewer. Worth every penny. Close to the river without being in the middle of the day use business. Sites are spread out enough that you don’t feel like you are on top of your neighbors. HOSTS WERE AWESOME. New to the RV game, but this will be hard to beat as one our favorites.

My favorite campground

Have stayed at Loeb many times over the past 37 years -- tent camping, cabin camping, and now tent-trailering -- and it has been fun every time.

The showers are great. Short walk to the super-clean Chetco River for swimming and salamander-camping. Twenty minute drive to the ocean beaches. Good hosts. Fun watching kids ride their bikes around and around. Grassy park-lawn section for croquet or bocce ball.

on the river

Another stop along the beautiful coast. What a great place to stay right along the river. Others at the campsite seemed to have issues with park security but we didn’t encounter anything like that. Nothing too special about the campsites, but the park is very nice.
