Sweet spot to recharge at

This is a lovely campground right beside the Nehalem river. Great for families, fisherfolks and those looking for a quiet break from the city. Nice hiking trail around Lost Lake, about 3.5 miles away, and a challenging (steep) trail up from the campground to Spruce Run Lake.

Very nice campground

We stayed on a spot right along the river. The location was beautiful and the facilities were clean. It was very quiet this time of year. It was an excellent experience over all!

Peaceful

The hosts are always great, the sites are large enough for multiple tents. It’s one of our favorite camp locations. We camp a few times a summer here. The river is a blast to float and the kids have to disconnect from all devices( no service)

Family Friendly and Close to Portland

Clean, nice, semi-wooded campground with plenty of water to play in and places to run around for kids. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and there were still a few sites available when we arrived early-ish (10 am or so) on a Saturday in June. There are both tent and RV sites on both sides of the road. The river-side has more camp sites and some are practically right on the river. There's also a smaller creek that runs through the campground that feeds into the larger, wade-able river. While I had read tons of great reviews, I think my experience overall was more "meh." Yes, the sites are pretty, clean, and the river is lovely, but it seemed a little crowed or at least that the sites were too on top of each other (though I may just being extra picky with so many other amazing campsites in Oregon). I also wasn't thrilled with the road running through the campground. With mostly pit toilets (one flush one) and no showers, I thought the $20 per night fee was slightly expensive when there were other primitive sites down the road a bit for free. Overall, worth trying one more time due to its proximity to Portland.

All-Arounder

Henry Rierson fully earns its healthy glow. Open May 15 to September 15, this is a sprawling, versatile campground with seemingly something for everyone. I loved that there were isolated patches of campsites and day use areas on both sides of the road, a spot on the gorgeous Nehalem River perfect for exploration, a friendly and responsive camp host, a lot of different sizes and layouts of campsites, and nearby hikes, like the new Spruce Run trail and the Nehalem Bay coast jaunt that gets you communing with harbor seals. Being a bit more bashful sometimes, though, I could have used a lot more trees and more distance from roads. Trucks and engines galore. Still - get in and get out there. Henry saved you a spot.

Kayak the river

We love this little gem. We are kayakers, so staying on the river is a must. Surrounded by trees.1st come first serve. We drove up the road to a secluded site, we did not stay in the camp ground.

Nearly Perfect

This gem is about 5 miles up from the main hwy. The road is smooth yet narrows in places that may be a bit hairy for bigger rigs. The site is secluded, quiet, and on the river front. We had site 24 and it was level with plenty of shade. Each site has a table and fire ring, no wood available for purchase. A great mix of tent and rig sites. The camp has four sections of 6 to 8 spots each and each section has a pit toilet. The toilets are clean and conveniently located. Overnight was 20 bucks and well worth it. There are several trails accessible with varying degrees of difficulty. The trail behind the camp that begins at the camp entrance is a wonderful morning hike. I suggest The Philosophers Stone by Van Morrison as a perfect album accompanying a stay here. A pleasant little run into nearby Seaside made a great stay.

Nice Spot on River

Family-friendly large campground right on the Nehalem River. Five miles off highway 26 and not too far from Portland. Campground split into two parts on both sides of the road. No reservations. First-come, first served. Spots for RVs and tents. Picnic tables, fire pits, good-sized sites, though some better than others. River is fun for wading and looking for rocks. Beautiful views. Kids can have fun biking around and exploring in the trees. Great spot for an overnight getaway just outside of Portland.

Easy from Portland

Nice little campground, several sites right on river. Little privacy between sites. 3 nice pit toilets, 1 flush bathroom, well water. River is nice but bring a tube; shallows are too rocky to really play in and then it gets deep. Gentle water otherwise. Camp host sells firewood.
