Overview

Mill Creek Recreation Area is an ideal family campground located on Berlin Lake in northeastern Ohio. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing, hunting, picnicking and camping.

Recreation

The lake is a popular location for boating, swimming, and fishing. Berlin Lake is renowned for its excellent walleye fishing. It is one of the few area lakes where natural reproduction of the species occurs. Anglers will also find largemouth and smallmouth bass, muskie, crappie and bluegill. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources manages over 6,800 acres of project lands for public hunting and wildlife management purposes. Small game species are found in abundance and hunting areas can be easily accessed.

Facilities

Mill Creek Campground offers 295 sites ranging from wooded water sites to grassy sites in the sun. Over 100 sites have electric hookups. Other amenities include a dump station, showers, flush restrooms, a boat ramp, playgrounds, and a volleyball court.

Natural Features

Berlin Lake is situated on the Mahoning River, where it covers 3,590 acres and offers 70 miles of shoreline. The banks of the lake are gently to moderately sloped, allowing for easy access. Beech and maple trees cover the area, offering shade and beautiful fall color. A variety of wildlife makes its home around the lake. Visitors delight in viewing nesting ospreys. Bald eagles can occasionally be seen in the area as well.

Nearby Attractions

Noah's Lost Ark Animal Sanctuary is just one mile south. The sanctuary is home to a large variety of big and small cats, including lions, tigers, cougars, leopards, bobcats and lynx. Wolves, coyotes, fox, bears, camels, zebras and primates also live in Noah's Lost Ark. Children love the sanctuary's petting zoo and educational tours.

Very woodsy on the lake.

Very nice park with a lot of spacious spots. Scout camping, boat launch, primitive camping and more.

Beautiful!

Our site in Aspen was a beautiful private spot in the woods with access to the lake! We were able to dock our boat on shore and nobody bothered it. The lake is clean and covers a large area with beautiful homes along the water in some of the fingers. Had a blast there with friends! 😊

Nice place

The campsites are nice. Wish they had more electric sites. The ones they do have fill up pretty quick.

Beautiful but no peace and quiet

Camp hosts were amazing and our spot was large and pretty. Our neighbors however were absolutely obnoxious. Just screaming obscenities nearly the whole time and were definitely drinking even though no alcohol is allowed in the park. Rangers drive by very frequently yet do absolutely nothing even after quiet hours start. Maybe it's not always like this but I may never return because of it. I want a nice quiet and relaxing time not put up with screaming drunks and kids. Also there was so much traffic constantly!

A site for everyone's need

Staff are friendly and also the people around. Plenty of sites on lake can keep your boat or other toys tied off

Nice, Clean, Fun campground

I’ve stayed at Mill Creek several times. They regularly service the campsites and bathrooms. You can get waterfront camp sites if you like. The facilities are nice and there is plenty to do. Plenty of space and privacy at the sites.

Very nice campground!

Nice fire ring and picnic table. Bathrooms are decently clean. There’s a couple playgrounds for kids. The people next to us parked their boat right behind their site. We even seen a doe and 2 fawn right here at our site!

One Night Trip (Site O-49)

Good camp ground overall.

Lots of playgrounds and you can access the lake for swimming and fishing from just about anywhere. The sites are well spaced and feel private, until you get closer to the lake. Those sites are jammed in pretty tight. The bathrooms and showers are older and spread pretty thin around the campground. They were mostly clean, not disgusting, just showing their age.

There is one out and back trail near the lake that’s a short drive and an easy walk for families.

Extremely affordable compared to other campgrounds in the Northeast.

Perfect weekend getaway

I highly recommend this campground. We were here for the first time last year and loved it so much we came back this year. The park itself and the bathrooms were very clean. We book a lakefront site and it is just gorgeous! We have our own private little beach which our dog loves. Which is another plus, we have a Rottie mix and they allow her in. The only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars is because both times we have been here, the lady at the check in drive up window seemed very confused to where it came off as a little rude. We didn’t know our site number so I gave her my name, and from there it was a fiasco. The check in process took longer than needed. But that won’t stop us from returning. Other than that, it was a perfect weekend getaway! We will be back!

Relaxing and Beautiful

One of my favorite campgrounds visited this summer (came back again!)

- Low cost for staying ($18 for a waterside, spacious site for up to 8 people, 2 tents at no additional costs)

- Numerous fishing and open swimming opportunities (basically anywhere you want along the water)

- Very clean fire rings and running water bathrooms

- Variety of style campsites and “camps” (personal favorite is Aspen)!

- Can skateboard, skooter, or bike throughout the whole campground

- although checkout is at 1 pm, the park as a whole is still open to the public which means you can continue to enjoy the water and nature after moving to the general public parking lot

- Only minor negative is the boat rental was not open for the 2020 season; however, I respect this decision and believe it shows the campground’s ethics for preventing the spread of germs and diseases over making revenue!

Busy, but not too bad :)

Stayed a night here near the end of June after a rainstorm. A few quick highlights:

  1. Because there are a ton of sites, you can expect one thing: variety. There are plenty of aluminum Airstream, Winnebago, fifth wheels, pull behind, and tents. You can expect to find a little bit of everything here.

  2. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Mill Creek might not be for you. Most of the sites seem to be typically pretty packed. Generally, people respect quiet hours, but with sites so close to each other, noise is a factor.

  3. The surrounding area seems to be pretty spartan. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes up the road, a bait shop about three minutes away, and a drive-through (with some light groceries and drinks) about two away. Nice enough folks in all three :) Super helpful and accommodating.

  4. Berlin lake seems to be the big draw. Plenty of boats, jet ski‘s, kayaks, and swimming opportunities. If that’s your thing, plan accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, Mill Creek is a pretty solid site within driving distance of Akron / Canton. I’ll be back, with adjusted expectations.

Quick tip: My particular site was pretty muddy upon arrival. Granted, that was after a bit of rain. But it wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair of shoes ;-)

Quiet, nice lake view

Stayed in the Maple loop. Very quiet and maintained fairly well. Bathrooms were clean, shower houses aren’t bad. Sites do have electric, just no water. Close to boat launch ramp. Our spot had a great view of the lake! We will definitely come back!

A lot of changes

We used to camp here all the time. They had some issues that they fixed. They have changed the fire rings, which makes it harder to cook on. I understand why they changed them. Other than the changes they have mase, we still like to camp here.

Nice clean campground

A very nice and clean campground with many access point to the the lake. Our camp site was in close proximity to the restroom facilities. We were fourtante that our spot was right beside the lake and we could keep the boat docked their during our stay. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. You have lots of space and don't feel crowed to the other people camping. All sites are reservation only and they usually fill up fast. Nearby to the campground, about one mile South there an animal sanctuary, Noah's Lost Ark. at the campground there is plenty to keep you busy with it having a boating dock and then a volleyball court.
