Great place to camp, unleveled pads

This is our second trip to Burr Oak Cove and it continues to be a great place to camp for the weekend. Very family friendly with spacious sites (especially if you can get two next to each other).

Rangers are kind and informative and the facilities are well kept. There are nice leveled pads at most sites for tents; however, if you are brining a trailer or RV it can be a challenge to level them as the parking pads are sloped.

Att cell reception was at 2 bars of LTE as well making remote work possible.

Great place to camp

A friend and I were just traveling through Ohio and needed a place to stay. This is an awesome choice for anyone who likes seclusion or needs a quick place to stay, only 15$ a night and three other campsites occupied, we had a great time. Very peaceful and clean, you can tell they take good care of this place. No showers, but that wasn't a big deal for us as we stayed one night.

Nice little campsite

Cool little campground. First come first served with no reservations accepted. The sites are clean with picnic tables and fire rings and can accommodate small RVs. There are a couple of vault style outhouses, dump stations and a couple of water stations as well. No electric or water hookups, though. Came on a Thursday and there were only two sites occupied so it was nice and quiet even though there is a bit of road noise from the nearby roads. There’s also an easy 1 mile trail down to Burr Cove proper. The sites are $15 ($10 in the off season when the water is turned off) and you pay at an honor box at the entrance once you pick your spot.

Very Secluded beautiful lake.

You will have everything you need for rv. Water, (fill your rig) Sewer Dump and electricity. Cell service is good. No 4g on Verizon I’m unsure if they offer extended WiFi.

Solid campground - maps incl here

I couldn’t find much information on this campground online, so trying to fill in some of those gaps for others.

Some sites are close to each other, some are more spread out - see attached map. The ones you need to walk to (3-7) aren’t far - I wish I noticed them when I drove by.

You do hear highway traffic from the site at the turnaround point (#12), but I liked that it was away from other.

Note that you can connect to Lakeview Trail from the campground. The trailhead is by #3-7. From #12 to the lake, it was 1.3 miles and a moderate hike.

You’ll find firewood on Burr Oak Road just to the west of the entrance, on the north side of the street.

Peaceful and quiet

While the campsite only provides water when compared to the burr oak state campgrounds you really can’t beat the price. On top of that they are allowing walk ins, while burr oak requires making reservations. It is a short drive from the beach and It does have hiking trails to the lake for scenic pictures and bonding moments with your children and pets

Nice and Clean

I used to work at Wayne National Forest as a YCC crew member! I fondly remember visiting these sites for weekly maintenance. Happy to report they are still very clean and well groomed! There are several platforms for tents and a trail that eventually meets up with the lake.

Walk in sites are much more secluded (check on water availability)

There are vault toilets which aren't too bad and potable water. However, as the fall-winter progresses water actually becomes unavailable (although the camping fee drops....)

Walk in sites are much more secluded than the drive in although i don't think this campground gets a ton of usage.

Quiet campground in Wayne National Forest!

We enjoyed walk-in site #3 during a holiday weekend. The walk-in sites afford more privacy and tree cover than the drive-up sites, where you can see your neighbors on all sides. No showers or sinks, just several vault toilets. Potable water available throughout the camp. Camp sites are $10 a night.

Neighbors were fairly quiet, and there is one trail that leads down to Burr Oak lake. The trail is 1 mile, but it seems to link up with some longer yellow and green-blazed trails that go around the lake. The campground is also a short drive from the Wildcat Hollow trail head in the Athens Unit of Wayne National Forest
