Buck Creek State Park Campground

Large park with a marina, archery range, disc golf and more. Trails to lake covered with shade.

It's easy to get there. The non-electric sites don't have a lot of space or privacy (ie; trees) between them, definitely no hammocking. There's also a private camper's beach that is absolutely serene, probably not safe to swim in. Due to it being a holiday weekend, it was busy & loud like you'd expect, but it was so rowdy we left early. When we showed up, someone dumped all their trash in our firepit, absolutely disgusting behavior. Two different camp groups, one in electric and one in non-electric, got into loud verbal fights that resulted in the police being called. Fireworks and loud music were played all night long. No quiet hours, or if there are any they're not enforced. It's still great for a night visit if you're in the area, but it's not a dream weekend getaway by any means.

Clean and empty at this time of the year. Tried to do the right thing and reserve for the night however the booking site through the state wouldn’t work. Slept for the night after a long day of driving

We came in November so water hookups were off and bathrooms were closed down (although that wasn’t communicated to us). The running trails were fun and the spaces were far enough apart for some privacy.

Nice medium size campground. Must reserve online as they are still doing everything virtual. Camp spots were decently sized but no cover between camp spots and little shade. Bathrooms were clean but not spotless and in need of a little repair. We were there on a Tuesday in October so not very crowded. All in all a nice place to stay for the night and get a good shower. 108 was very close to the bathrooms.

This campsite would have been perfect if not for the bathrooms littered with bugs, insects, and spiders. Otherwise, the campsite was quiet, the tent sites were nicely spaced out, and the bathrooms were easily accessible.

Stopped here during a road trip with a friend. Very family friendly. Tent sites were nice and flat, felt a little cramped though. Bathrooms were clean. The lake was very nice, clear, and refreshing. Flet good to be close to it! Easy to find the campsites and pretty affordable.

Love this place. Everything is close and the people are always nice. Always something to do.

Had a 4 day 3 night long weekend. Camp host on I think lot 71 or there about were great at keeping the activities going. Every night there was a movie and you could buy root beer floats for $1!! And the kids loved it. We also used the camper beach but to the left of it to launch our kayaks. Which was nice because you could back up to the pathway and park. Then drag your kayak down a short trail to the water. We loved our campsite 41 which I found is next to impossible to get! But it has shade almost all day and it only has a camper on one side plus is close to the bathroom. There is a path to the playground which the occasional kid will run down into your campsite by accident. Also the campground was quiet by 10pm every night we were there and most people seemed to be in bed early. We stay up till like 1-2am every night and it was so peaceful.

We arrived three hours after check in started and headed straight to the camp office to check in. Our tent site was ready right away and the kind lady at the desk helped us get DRY firewood and helped us locate our spot. Our campground was clean and mostly quiet. About a 2 min walk and you can walk along the lake on a trail, we caught the most gorgeous sunset. Overall a very nice and clean campground. The only complaint if I had to give one was the daddy long legs in the bathrooms. But they are not harmful at all and don’t really get in the way, but if you are not a spider person they may deter you.

A well manicured campground just outside Dayton, easy to get to, back in pavement site with 30A electric, picnic table and fire pit. Plenty of potable water spigots around, just not at the site. Dump station near the entrance of the campground. Walking trails along the lake well cared for. Plenty of activity with playground and an outdoor theater. Plenty of water-front pebble beach for enjoyment in the summer. Close to the campground is the marina with a restaurant , but won’t open til Memorial Day.

Addendum: July 2021 - was speaking with a number of people who have been here and they suggest not going during the summer. There is a large influx of rowdy locals who don't quite respect the peace and quiet many of us like.

We LOVE this campground - particularly sites 81-86. The sites are large with plenty of room to spread out, throw the frisbee or play other games. The sites are also near hiking paths that lead to the camper beach. 

There is a nice playground down the road from the sites and additional hiking trails on the other side of the campground. Very quiet, peaceful camping.

Beautiful hiking, great views of the lake. Nice place to put a boat/kayak in the water. Downside, very few sites have water/sewer hookup. They do have locations to get potable water and a dump station on the way out of the park, we were just hoping to have a water hookup on site.

One of my favorites in this area , great rv spots and even better tent /non electric spots ... easy walk to fish or to campers beach ... my sons love camping here for the trails and large areas to ride their bikes

This is the closest campground to the city I grew up in so I have been here many times through out the years. The sites are decent they have lots of space but most are on a slope you have to move your tents/tables/ect around a lot to find a flat area. Some of the pads are cracking and breaking from normal wear but I can tell that they have done lots of updates as well. The shower houses are clean and roomy. During non covid years they have a area with a big drive in movie type screen where they will play a movie on for kids. There is a swimming beach by the campground that is suppose to be for campers only but while we were there other people came and trashed the area. They were parting and left their trash and beer bottles all over the beach area (not campground fault). There are plenty of hiking trails in and around the campground as well. The biggest problem we had was the sneaky little raccoons breaking into our friends pop up . They forgot to lock the door when they went to sleep and woke up to Raccoons stealing stuff out of their camper 🤣🤣🤣.

LOVE camping here!!! Have been here probably 4-5 time in the last 2 summers. We have never had a bad experience here till this wkend ( which is why I wouldn’t give it a bad review bc all other times have been great). So this was our first time this summer camping here and the camp host on site 38 is so rude and unhappy. She parked like 3 ft from our friends camper and he went over to see if he could help her (bc we thought she was there for us and needed something) and she said “do you see this spot all this grass is my site” in a rude tone. We were blown away bc we have never had anything but a good exp we just thought she needed something. And by the way she had her driveway and closer to her camper available. So being parked within 3 ft of their parking pad was a bit much. The camp host from lot 38 rode around on a golf cart with a unhappy face every time we seen her the whole wkend. She just seemed miserable. Other than that we always have a good time and they have a campground beach! We went fishing and our friend caught about a 2 ft carp!! No worries we catch and release so hes our there for the next person to catch! We will be going back. One spoiled trip will not ruin my favorite camp ground.

Very family friendly

After not being able to camp a majority of the summer due to having 2 brain surgeries - it was nice to at least get one camping trip in before the kids start back school. It was definitely not an easy task to get a camp site here as a walk-in. We checked on reserve America several times with no luck. So finally when Friday (8/9) morning came I rushed up to buck creek to get a spot. The camp store opened a little after the posted time. I politely asked the attendant if they had any walk-up sites available and at first she said no. I then said you don’t have anything at all? She finally said they had a few non-electric sites (which was totally fine!) I happily paid for the site and we sat up. The park was totally FULL by evening. The attendant at the store wasn’t the friendliest. It was slightly upsetting she tried to hide that they had a few non-electrics available. We also witnessed her telling children/teens they couldn’t come into the camp store without an adult. And, there was a stray, very scrawny looking cat that hung around the camp store that some people were giving food. The attendant came out of the store and yelled at the kids for feeding it - instead of explaining why they shouldn’t. The camp store is very basic it has wood, ice, lighters, and things of that nature. The camp sites can feel a bit cramped (especially when they’re full) they’re about 15ft from one cement pad to the next. The restrooms were okay and by Saturday evening desperately needed cleaned. Also in the main woman’s restroom only one out of three stall doors actually locked. The showers were warm though so that is a positive especially when camping. The camp doesn’t do very many planned activities. They have a movie at dark which our kiddos enjoyed. They have a basketball court which is usually full of teens. The playground is nice and within walking distance from all the campsites. However our 6 year old was a bit disappointed that the tetherball didn’t have a ball. Buck Creek has a lot of great trails to hike. It is very common to see wildlife especially deer on a hike here. The kids love it and it’s always fun to look for big foot on hikes for them.

I remember when that built this lake and they have improved it so much. It is very clean and camping there is wonderful. How ever book ahead as it books up fast. The lake has a beach and there is very good fishing there. They have a splendid walking and biking path. It is so peaceful

We booked a last minute 4th of July weekend and found site 48 available. It had a pretty level pad, lots of green space and a tree for shade. We were across from the basketball court but it sat way in the back near the trees that it wasn’t anything that bothered us. We were almost on the end of the road and not a far walk to the camp store and bathrooms (flushable toilets and decent showers). Next to the camp store is the large playground and the amphitheater where they show movies. Just 10 minutes away is a gas station with a big selection of alcohol, cheaper wood and ice. Great site for a last minute decision.

We had three walk-in sites to choose from on Memorial Weekend. We chose Site 113 in non-electric. It was a huge site with big trees for shade. Great for tent camping and it worked well for out camper. You have to pull in with a camper to be able to walk out onto your site. It’s a little backwards, but we only have 19ft camper so it worked for us. Plus we weren’t planning on driving anywhere so we didn’t have to worry about moving our truck. The bathroom/showers were not far and were nice and clean. For a holiday weekend it was nice and quiet. If your a bird watcher take your binoculars. Lots of robins, cardinals, red winged blackbirds and a few orioles. We drove though electric on our way out and the sites were much closer than where we were. We loved it and plan on going back.

Level concrete pads with plenty of room between spaces. Some in the open & some with trees. Very peaceful.

Our scouts stopped here on our return trip home. This was a very nice campground with good facilities.

Sites are large. Pads for RVs are large. Every site is close to the reservoir, with tons of hidden beaches. Deer are everywhere. Watch out for raccoons. If you are tenting, bungee your coolers. Leave other food in your car. The raccoons have chewed through peoples’ tents to get their food.

We camped here in our camper in early July 2017. There are a lot of things to do in the area. We visited the Ohio Caverns. The tour is worth the money, the "gem" mining was fun for our younger kids. There are two swimming beaches, the public one and one in the campground. The campground one is smaller a short hike to get to it. Both are ok, but nothing impressive. The campground is clean and overall a good value. It was a busy weekend but not as loud as I figured it would be. Yellow Springs is a great, funky town. Many great places to eat. Dark Star Used Bookstore is a must see every time we visit.

I was looking for a backcountry camping site that would give me some privacy and make it feel as though I was deep in the woods. Buckcreek had great hammock camping spots and was just what we were looking for, especially considering we scoured several other campgrounds and most of them didn't have trees at the spots, let alone 3 to set up 3 hammocks. The staff was very friendly and we're looking forward to going back in a couple weeks!

A nice "weekender" type of campground. The sites are clean and level for the most part. I recommend taking one on the outside of the loop - near the trees.

The reservoir provides ample opportunity for swimming, fishing and there is great space to fly a kite if that's in your book or tricks.

Nothing out of the ordinary, but if you are looking for an introduction to camping, this would be a great place to start.

Over a late-August weekend, we found the non-electric loop to be pretty quiet and uncrowded. The grounds are level and grassy, with trees that provide partial shade. Restrooms are clean enough, and there are showers with nice warm water. The reservoir seems like the big draw for this park.

This was another brief stop on my long journey back west. The state park is beautiful and the sites are pretty nice. I did not spend enough time here to give a thorough review, but what I will say is that this site is nice if you need a campsite for a couple nights while passing through Ohio. Seems there are a lot of good options for water fun at this site!
