Great for kids - very close quarters

This KOA, which is actually in Swannanoa and not Asheville, is awesome for families and kids. There is a pool, playground, gaga ball pit, golf car rentals, fishing and splashing in the Swannanoa River, and a game room. On weekends they have themes and activities that includes crafts and movies. The bathroom I used was older, but clean. The main issue with this campground is how close the sites are (even tent sites) and how packed it can get - literally no privacy and the layout isn’t super attractive (and yes, train is loud). It’s a good location to explore downtown Asheville (20-25 minutes), Black Mountain (5 minutes) and Montreat (10 minutes). There is a bus that runs along the 70 corridor, but it’s not frequent. Lastly, there is a grocery store and brewery within a mile. The staff at the office and store are always nice. So definitely a great place to hang out with the kids or to use as a base camp for hiking, but super, super busy and close quarters.

Leaf 🍁 Peepers Dream

We overnighted in the primitive tent sites and we’re lucky enough to be at the end. It was next to the Swannanoa River and beautiful. This is a KOA holiday but very family friendly and had lots of activities, a lake with boats and kayaks, and other summer fun things. We just stayed for the night to make a fire and explore some trails the next day on the fly, but will definitely go again!

Beautiful park with great scenery, big rigs beware

This is a beautiful campground with tons of space for bike riding or walking. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and they have fun events for kids on the weekends. The laundry room has 8 washers($2/load) and 4 dryers($.25/8min) and is open 24/7.

We stayed in Section A which was **extremely** tight for navigating, parking, and camping, especially with our 43' big rig. 3 people had to move their cars to allow us to back our 5th wheel into our space. We could barely open our awnings without touching the RV in the space next to us. The back of our 5th wheel was less than 3 feet from the camper behind us. On the last 2 nights, we moved to B15 which had plenty of space with an awesome patio setup.

Trains come through near the park at all hours of the day and night, using their horn religiously; Not a huge deal but you may get woken up in the night or early morning.

Beautiful Campground

We parked our camper right next to the Swannanoa River in the KOA Asheville East and had a stellar Memorial day weekend. Just a few miles to downtown Asheville and central to all Western NC, this is a great Basecamp for waterfall gazing, day hiking, city walking, etc. The only encouragement would be for updated bathhouse facilities.

100% would stay here again.

This campground was clean, both inside the facilities and outside at the campsites. We stayed on the water, and did hear the road noise as well as the train, but that didn’t bother us much. We were there for Easter weekend and the staff there took care to plan activities for the children. The firewood they sold was top notch, and every morning someone would come to pick up your trash for you. When we first arrived, there was someone who escorted us to our campsite and assisted with the placement of our camper.

Just okay

We stayed here for a week in the D section with water/electric. The KOA setting itself is nice, but the sites are really close together and our site was the most unlevel site we've ever had. Many of the sites in the D section were unlevel and we briefly had a neighbor arrive and try to level and couldn't so they left to get another site. There is road noise, but that's typical for a KOA since they are usually off busy roads. There is also a train nearby. The wifi worked great and we had good AT&T and Verizon signals. The laundry room could use some improvement and had 4-5 working washers but only 2 working dryers. They did have nice walking paths around the pond. I probably wouldn't stay here again given the price and how unlevel the sites are.

This is a older smaller KOA. Very clean and great staff. But you are just off I-40 so traffic noise is constant day and night. On the upper side of the campground is next to an T-A truck stop. Combine that with interstate traffic!!!! The office does offer plugs free of charge if you want them.

Nice Campground near Asheville

I actually had a better experience then I expected! This was my first experience with KOA and I had mixed reviews. Pros: Staff was super friendly, it was so nice to be assorted to my site at check and to have help backing in. I requested that since I have a pop-up camper and no bathroom that I be close to the bathhouse and it was honored! I had the first site in my category, I was at D8. The bathrooms were very nice and seemed honestly recently upgraded, they were always clean. Cons: These spots were tight! I’m all about neighbors, but one review I had got about KOA’s is that they really pack you in. I have a tiny camper so I really didn’t mind but I could see our neighbors with bigger rigs seem a-little squished in. My advice would be to pay the extra to stay at a category near the water! I honestly liked getting to know our neighbors for the weekend so the closeness didn’t bother me that much. Honestly the real reason I only say 4 stars is because we got some firewood delivered and it was wet. Took us all night and nothing caught, even with a can of gas! However it was nice that they delivered it to our site. So overall my friends and I had a great time, we spent most of the time actually in Asheville which was only about 15 minutes away. I can see why some would complain about the site, but it was perfect for us girls that just slept there and sat around a fire drinking. Would recommend as a decently priced option!

Awesome water front rv site

We started our season out with this trip and had a blast. This was one of the best rv parks we have stayed at. We had a park that backed up to the big lake and had neighbors at both neighboring sites, we still had plenty of room. The people running the park were super friendly and took great pride in the park. We had firewood delivered to our site twice and they were very happy to do so. Big playground for our little girl and she had a blast. We will be returning soon.

There are better options closer to AVL

In my experience as a full time RVer KOA's and there staff are typically very welcoming, accommodating and kind. However, this particular KOA is the exception to the rule. I've stayed here multiple times out of convenience, the staff has been consistently rude. I won't be making the mistake of staying here again when there are nicer campgrounds in the area.

Our Travel Trailer Maiden Voyage

We booked a little late here for our trip so our campsite was near the more residential campers with several just overnighters coming in and out beside us. Huge campground with a nice stream flowing through with ducks and geese and a pond. Lots of walking areas, some paved, most not so it can take a beating on a stroller. Extremely golf cart friendly. Beautiful landscaping and gardens maintained by a sweet lady for the managers/employee housing. Cabins scattered about. Playground doesn’t have a infant swing but is in great working condition. Lots for the kids to do including a small arcade. Staff overall were nice and accommodating. Easily accessible to grocery stores and a few restaurants. Laundry area is well maintained and sufficient. They even have rolling baskets to transport wet clothes to dryer and a waiting area if you wanted to read or book adventures while you wait. We traveled here in early fall/late summer (after Labor Day). Had we known the pool was still open, we would’ve taken advantage of that as well of course weather dependent.

Fun family friendly campground. They have a pool, playground, store, air conditioned bathroom/bath houses. There is a river that runs through the camp that is fun to play or fish in. There is also a pond for fishing. We were in row D near the end and the bathrooms were a good ways away. Definitely suggest having a bike or something to make the trek each time a little quicker. Our view was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place. We will be back.
