About

Devil Doc campsites is rustic, yet offers all of the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. 15 tent sites and a small cabin with a loft are available for your stay. There is a gutted out school bus and and a small camping trailer available too. There are 4 RV spots for boondocking and 2 more with full hookups water and 50 amp electric . No gray or black water dumping but this service can be done nearby at a NYS campsite.

Devil Doc also offers FREE firewood or can be purchased if you don't want to collect and build your owe fire. You can make friends and enjoy music at the communal patio or shoot some hoops at the basketball court. Also have a redneck outdoor gym too...lol.. There are 6 bikes for rental. Have outhouse toilets. Some campsites are totally private but not located at the pond location. Paddle boat is free on the pond first come first serve. The Devil Doc Campsite is within the Adirondack Park foothills with proximity to Northville and Gloversville. The PeckHill State Forest and many other lakes and hiking trails nearby. Awesome Primitive Spot on Private Land

My buddy and I were looking for a campsite for a quick overnight stay before a bike trip around the Adirondacks, and this spot was a perfect fit. Coming in late after driving all day, we unfortunately didn’t get to meet Rich in person. He did however give us good directions to navigate the narrow driving path in the dark to reach the pond camping area, and even had a large two room tent already set up that we were able to use - a convenient and kind gesture! The old school bus was a fun perk to check out in the morning as well. Most state ran parks in New York close up before the middle of October, and this is a great option for an off season camping spot in the area. Thanks Rich!

Wicked nice host!

Almost missed staying here, as the app listed it as unavailable for booking. Make sure you call/text to check availability. We had the entire place to ourselves as our little Hiker Trailer was able to make it up to the clearing where there’s a little pond. We had tons of privacy as it is well clear of the host’s home and neighbors. There’s quite a bit of, clutter and discarded stuff as we arrived a few days after a bonfire party. If he does get around to clearing out the other stuff, this would be a five star spot!

Private and great guy sharing his land

It is a cool place, Richard and Rick are great guys. The land they share has a pond that is very secluded. We used his power source so we were near his home and site was level for the travel trailer. Slept great each night!! Lots of trails near by for biking or hiking. Highly recommend. Property has an abundance of free firewood you can collect.

Pros; great guys to get to know, level site, dark and private, available and free firewood, lots to hike and bike in the area.

Cons; only con was that they were limited on water so could not dump tanks during our stay, had to travel to anothwr place, a little hassle.

Wonderful campsite run by wonderful guys!

I have to preface by saying that I signed up to The Dyrt just to leave a review for Devil Doc campgrounds. I could not have had a more lovely experience at Devil Doc - and my GSD Daisy would emphatically agree! As they say, a tired dog is a good dog, and this girl is wiped out! We loved our stay so, so much.

Rich is the owner and he's an absolute riot. A dude with an obvious zeal for life, his mission for this campground is to share this truly beautiful place he's lucky to call home with other people who are seeking to immerse themselves in nature. He and his buddy, Rick, live on acres and acres of forested property, with my favorite campsites located at a seemingly magical pond surrounded by beautiful pine and birch trees. They are constantly improving the campsites/property and although I thought it was perfect as is, Rich has grand plans for upgrades (i.e. outhouses and additional electric sites)! These guys really do so much to go out of their way to provide an amazing experience, from brewing coffee in the AM to helping you in whatever way they can, so please show respect, mindfulness, and clean up after yourself.

The campsites themselves are huge - this isn't a state park site where you're smushed on top of your neighbor. There are all types of campsites available for various camping styles; not all are adjacent to the pond. Although Daisy and I were the only ones there (Rich kindly accommodated our early booking request), I could envision how perfect it would still be even if the campgrounds had been fully booked out. There's enough space for everyone to feel some semblance of privacy and he also has a couple of completely private sites located a short distance away from the pond. However, the pond is really hard to beat.

In terms of preparation, bring all your standard camping gear. Purchasing firewood is totally unnecessary because there's plenty of it, literally, everywhere. I'd recommend bringing a hatchet. However, if you're not into that, then Rich and Rick sell firewood, too. You'll see their hard work meticulously lined up when you first drive in :) There's no running water at the tent sites, but the pond is available and with a carbon water filter, it was delicious. Bringing your own water also works.

Hiking is also available directly from the campgrounds and connects to nearby trails, leading wherever your heart desires, from treks to the lakes nearby to one that even goes all through the Adirondacks.

Honestly, we were incredibly spoiled to have this place all to ourselves and with such wonderful hosts who are clearly good people! We got lucky in so many ways - between the early booking being accepted and the weather miraculously being perfect the couple nights we were there. It was exactly the getaway we needed from the stress of NYC and the pandemic. I've been raving about our trip ever since we returned home and will definitely be back at least one more time this summer!

Amazing weekend!

We live in Rochester NY, looking to get out and disconnect in the wilderness. Rich, the host was amazing in every way. The camp site was perfect and close to many wonderful hikes. Highly recommend. We will be back for sure!!

Great place for quite get away

Rich is great ! Loved talking to him and hearing his life story. Very cool guy !! Me my wife and our two children 9,12 had a blast ! It's rough camping (bucket toilet) but the camp is gorgeous. The pond with the pedal boat was a hit with the kids and the other campers were great. We had everything we needed and Rich suggestions to explore the area were spot on ! We had the whole camp for ourselves the next day. Book it !!

Very nice remote spot

I wanted to do some camping and hiking in this area. DevilDoc Campsite was perfect for my needs. I meet my brother here and we had a great weekend hiking. Rich, the owner, was exceptionally knowledgeable and a very gracious host. We will camp here again.

Ooh-Rah

What a great little gem in the wilderness. I drove in from NH and met by brother there who had driven in from Ohio. If you are looking for a quiet and private out of the way site... this is it.
Primitive dispersed camping is what you get, and EXACTLY what we wanted. We had the entire campground and the small Artesian fed pond to ourselves until our last night when other campers arrived. Picnic table and fire pits are at all the sites, along with an "improved" latrine system.
Our host Richard was very kind, and accommodating to any request we may have had. We will be back again for sure. Jeff from NH

Highly Recommend

Grateful to have found this location and stayed here! Rich was a very accommodating and friendly host, making sure we had everything we needed and providing us with all the extras to make our stay that much better. Loved staying up by the pond and exploring all the old relics around the area. Our spot was peaceful and quite. You’ll fall asleep to the sounds of bull frogs, oh and the star gazing is pretty darn nice as well! Rich is happy to share information about local swimming/hiking spots, which there are many of close by. The experience staying here far beats any “traditional” campground. Will be back!

Perfect /excellent

If your looking for a campsite thats private and clean this should be your top pick .This was my first time camping and i wanted my husband to do what he enjoys (outdoor) camping. i am so glad we got to enjoy ourselves and i was able to have a beautiful experience the site was perfect, location was great and theres alot to do within the area .very private and i must say you feel right at home .totally making this our annual family camping ground.

Rustic campsite in beautiful corner of upstate New York

My friends and I had a wonderful three-day weekend at Rich's place. He lives on a sprawling 25-acre property near the town of Gloversville at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. We were lucky enough to be the only campers on site that weekend, and had the entire spread by the pond to ourselves.

Rich was a friendly and available host, who met us and showed us around when we first arrived, brought us firewood, and gave us advice on where to hike and swim in the area. (Nine Corners Lake is a must! It has beautiful clear water and we spent two entire days hanging out there). We had a lovely few days of swimming, hiking, driving around and checking out the scenery, and cooking/hanging out at the campsite. There's a camping store in town for last-minute groceries/items that Rich can direct you to, and a Walmart about a 20 minute drive away. Take your garbage with you when you leave and leave it in the dumpsters at the camping store (not sure if there will be a better system for this down the line or not, but something to consider). And bring bug spray as it gets buggy near the pond!

Rich mentioned that they're going to be installing outhouses and outdoor showers at the site soon, which will be a welcome addition. For now, there are shovels to dig cat holes. And there are firepits at each of the sites.

You'll have a wonderful time at DevilDoc!

Rustic camping in the foothills of the Adirondacks

Rustic camping with all the amenities awaits you at Devil Doc campsites. You will find three tent sites and a small cabin with loft on the property presently. There are plans to expand into another cabin for the bathhouse. A RV trailer is currently being used as the bathrooms as well as a common room for hanging out. Future expansion will see a group site near the upper pond get developed, and a leanto with a glass face. (!) firewood is also available on the premises. Free to roam around the property, you will inevitably end up hanging around Rich up near his house. The patio is always alive with music, people, and chipmunks who horde peanuts. Basketball is always an option (Rich is a big fan), as well as chilling near the ponds and creeks. The local store is a short 3 mile ride away, if there is anything you forgot, or Rich doesn’t have. Rich could be the most hospitable host we’ve had so far. Music, libations, fire wood and coffee. All were offered and shared. We had a great time there, and will be back.

The Devil Doc Campsite are just inside the Adirondack Park foothills. With close proximity to Northville and Gloversville, the world is never that far away. Or a good restaurant. The PeckHill state forest is close by for mountain biking. You can park at the trailhead on CR 101, or at Stump City brewing, to ride the trails. Lots of hiking and great fishing are found in the area, along with plenty of water sport opportunities.

My son and I had a great weekend there, and will surely be back. Soon!
