A large rec room and long covered outside patio work great for group events. Enjoy hiking or disk-sledding down the vast gypsum dunes at White Sands National Monument, only a short 15 mile drive from the campground! Learn about New Mexicos role in the US space program through interactive exhibits at the New Mexico Museum of Space History. Explore ancient rock drawings at the Three Rivers Petroglyph site, just 30 miles north of the campground! Or, simply unwind while taking a leisurely stroll through the oldest zoo in the Southwest the Alameda Park Zoo established in 1898. Though were located in the southern New Mexico desert, the tall, cool pines of Cloudcroft (8600 feet) and Ruidoso (7000 feet) are within an hours drive of the campground and make great day trips to escape the heat. Helpful service
I messed up thinking I had booked this campground - I hadn’t. It was five minutes to seven pm and the staff called me back and got me a site for less than $50 for the night. It was a nice, level pull through site with water/sewer/cable/electric. I was pretty relieved that we would have somewhere to camp - no one else picked up their phones.
We didn’t arrive until nearly nine and the same staff person was still working - helping someone back into their site. She was very kind and welcoming.
The next morning I checked out the campground. The area was pretty industrial, but less than two minutes to the science museum and zoo. Individual spaces were generous (especially the tent sites - they would fit any tent size) and I liked the little patio we had. The playground was newish, the pool looked like it would be nice when filled, the laundry room looked great (but cash only - I prefer the card ones) and there was a lovely store and rec room. There were also showers and a small dog run.
This KOA had everything you could need - including excellent customer service.
20-25 minutes to White Sands National Monument.

Great base camp for exploring the area
Clean and well maintained place to set up home for a few days! Friendly and helpful folks running the place. Offered good advice on area “things to see.”
Thanks for staying with us and the kind words.
Safe travels to you.
It sure is a KOA!
We spent three days in December here as a basecamp for White Sands. Everything was what we expected, and the cost per night is just about right. It's a solid option, but we'll probably look for something a bit wilder the next time we're in town. I'd recommend this to anyone who needs full hookups, needs to stay close to town, or gets KOA discounts.
KOAs are a go to on the road
KOAs tend to be a go to chain for me. They usually offer similar amenities between locations and good prices. I should probably consider becoming a member. This KOA was great. They had spotlights at each tent pad that you could turn on and adjust where they point. This made my nighttime arrival set up experience so much smoother. I'm pretty skilled at night time set up at this point, but having light always makes things move faster when you're solo. Each tent site also had a water spicket and 1 or 3 tables. The tent sites are huge and can fit any tent I've ever seen. Close to white sands national park. They also offer sleds you can borrow for free and wax for a $1 deposit. I highly recommend going there and sledding. Be aware of the weather/season because the sand will be hot during the day in the summer months

Thanks for staying with us. Based on your pictures that was a morning we had some really strange fog come through. Thanks not normal for us but was kind of cool at the time. Safe travels to you.
Great stay
Great stay for a quick trip to white sands. The employees were super friendly and helpful. Facilities were clean. Pool and playground were very clean and perfect to cool off in the heat of the Day between trips to the NP. Laundry facilities on sight which was great. Campground was well maintained as usual for a KOA. They also had free sleds to use at WSNP which was an added bonus!
One of the best for a KOA
I normally don’t stay in improved campgrounds like KOA, but passing through Alamogordo I wanted a stop where we could be in town with internet access and get some maintenance done. The location is perfect, right in town. The park itself is quiet, but there is some train noise and traffic noise from the surrounding area as expected. The grounds are clean and well kept, the bathroom and showers are clean, and the laundry is a nice addition. Staff is impeccably friendly and helpful. Wonderful place; would stay here again.
KOA
Clean facilities. Good location. Only downside are the trains during the night.
Overall it’s what I’ve come to expect from KOA’s. A little more expensive but predictably nice sites, amenities and staff.
They were great to me and extended my stay another night without having me move sites. Front desk has been awesome.
Good Amenities
They have everything you need in a pit stop camping experience. Clean bathrooms, showers, laundry and more. Very the nice lobby and lounge, very cute campground decor
White sands
Nice facility and friendly staff. Close to the white sands national park.

Convenient
Like most KOAs this one is well maintained. Right in town so not scenic but close to shops and restaurants. They have gravel tent sites for $30 which is high for tents but typical for KOA.
Great KOA. Four stars because of the wifi.
Well managed KOA and short driving distance from White Sands National Park and Lincoln National Forest. This KOA is in the city so there is some traffic noise and there is a train that passes through at night. They have sleds to borrow for White Sands which saves you the hassle and cost of getting a sled at the White Sands park. Wifi was unreliable, but cellular internet worked fine on our phones.
Very nice
Great little town. Nice park
Nice place, poor location
This campground is very well maintained and convenient location if you are visiting White Sands. However I wasn’t thrilled that it was basically in the middle of town and rather noisy the night I visited. There was also several lights on through the night that shined into my sleeping setup.
Well kept, good location
About 20 minutes to white sands, clean bathrooms, well kept. Maintained a lot of space between campsites during pandemic. However there is a train close by that blew the horn very loud all throughout the night. Woke me up at 1am, 3am, and 5:30 am.

Spacious site, great extras
We paid extra for a site with swing, paver patio, table and chairs. Site was very large, private, and well worth the extra $. We had a great time, the only reason not 5 stars was overnight/early morning noise. Train tracks not far away and one night I heard it at least 5 different times. 6:45a trash pickup on Tues mornings FYI. Just be aware if you’re a light sleeper. Otherwise, excellent campground and staff. Very clean, very accommodating. Quality water/electrical/sewer hook ups as well.
A 100% positive experience
We stayed here shortly after White Sands was made a national park. Very clean facility, general store, bathrooms, and showers available. There was a “Pick n’ Grin” going on the night we stayed, where people played various instruments, and gathered to listen. We usually prefer primitive camping, but this was a lovely break from the norm.
Very clean and well maintained
The staff was very friendly and helpful! They had a dog park, laundry room, clean showers and bathroom. The pools was closed but looked perfect! Thanks for such a great experience!
Clean
Clean campground. Staff was pleasant
Urban yet peaceful location...
Enjoyed two nights at this KOA. Very friendly staff and great sites. Location appears to be in an urban setting but you don’t get that feeling once onsite.
Amazing!
Views are spectacular! Campground is well maintained. Will come back soon!
Pure white
Are growing actual biomasses as well within the sand
Desert Oasis Fun For All Ages
In direct contrast to the White Sands backcountry camping which offers absolutely zero thrills and access to luxuries, the White Sand KOA is a great place to stay for those wanting some of the comforts of home. Located about 10 minutes from White Sands this campground is in a great location for a run to the store, a meal at one of the great local restaurants or a trip to some of the other area attractions.
While visiting here I noticed there were plenty of options for RV campers, something lacking at the White Sands itself. But RV camping is not all created equal, and this one by far surpasses other area options. Sites were latge enough even for the largest of rigs but also offered smaller sites for someone traveling a bit lighter like myself.
Tent row seemed to be a very popular options and while the sites here were a bit closer together there was still plenty of room to move around.
The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. The restrooms were private and very well throught creating a feeling of being at home while on the road. There was even a small store located on property with goodies and merchandise to commemorate your trip to the area.
This place really has the family in mind with a pool, playground and game room which will leave a smile on the faces of even the smallest guests.
Tips:
- Go check out the New Mexico Space Museum where you can find the first primate launched into space's memorial, some awesome space rockets and tons of information that will leave your head in space.
- Take a trip out to the White Sands only a short 10 minute drive from camp and spend the day sledding down the cool white dunes.

FANTASTIC location!!
EXTREMELY friendly staff and very accommodating!! All of the sites are easily accessible to the showers and the location is perfect for White Sands National Monument. I would definitely stay here again if we go back to the region.
Absolutely stunning
One of the prettiest places in the U.S.A and the sand never gets hot! We go a lot.

The friendliest staff
City camping close to restaurants and stores. Only about 10 minuets from White Sands State Park. Partly shaded gravel sites with water, electric, fire ring, picnic table. Campsites are very close to pool, playground, and restroom/showers. Very clean with a well stocked store and friendly staff. The staff gave us great tips for local venues, loaned us sleds for White Sands and rewarded my boys with popsicles for their good manners.
HOT, LOL
Great campground with nice semi-private deluxe sites. Nice central location to visit White Sands and the Billy the Kid Trail.

Great deluxe spots
We stayed here 3 night while touring White Sands and doing the Billy the Kid Trail. Spacious patios on their deluxe sites.
Excellent
The staff is friendly and helpful. Clean bathrooms and showers. Campground is well kept. There is a dog run, pool and a place to do laundry. A playground next to the pool makes for a fun afternoon. We will definitely come back.
Great Campground
The plot was a nice sized area with electric plug ins available at the campsite and your own fire pit and picnic table. Would camp here again.
