Not a bad campsite but the mosquitoes are horrid

Camp ground looks well laid out good access to the lake. But the mosquitoes are so bad they seem attracted to bug spray you literally can’t sit out side at all. Forget going on a walk! Maybe it was the time of year? We were here in late July. We camp often and have never seen anything like this! The road in is 2 miles of dust as well and pretty rough in a 1 ton. Might come back but won’t be in July.

Pleasant site near Yellowstone

We stayed here for a night during our trip to Yellowstone. It was busy but there was a decent amount of privacy between sites, but you definitely know you’re camping around others. The vault toilet wasn’t the cleanest. The bear boxes at each site were easy to use. A herd of bison camped along the entrance road was the highlight.

Beautiful, and close to Yellowstone

What a gorgeous campground - tall pines and well spaced sites throughout. It’s super quiet There’s electricity on 2 loops, and potable water to fill up your tank. (No dump station though.) 2-3 bars for AT& T. The cleanest and nicest smelling vault toilets too :) Hoping we can come back someday.

Avoid if you like peace and quiet

Campground is close to Yellowstone NP. Has water fill-up for RVs, but no dump.

Seems to be a party campground. Large groups at various sites (exceeding both limit of 8 people and 2 cars), playing loud music - one right next to host site.

Host does not enforce sound level rules or quiet hours (10pm-6am).

Electric hookup on many sites is behind curb barrier - at some sites as much as 12 feet.

Nice electric sites

Pretty rate for a forest service campground to have electricity, so that was nice. Wish the sites were closer to the water, but it was a pretty quick walk. Bathrooms weren’t as well maintained as others.

Quiet and Spacious in West Yellowstone

The tall trees and access to Hebgen Lake make this campground a true gem. The hosts were wonderful and the whole campground was quiet and well maintained. Not crowded at all, even during peak Yellowstone tourist season.

Very clean and well kept.

Work there. From may till August. One of four couples that worked very hard to make campground the best it could be. The camp was on Hebgen lake. Never above 88 degrees. 81 sites. Great cell service. Very busy on weekends. Always full. But sites were far enough apart didn't seem crowded. This campground is more used to sleep in the rig at night and then visit Yellowstone during the day.

Great campground, beautiful morning

Super relaxing and very nice campground! Very private feeling campsite with a good size and distance from others. The only downfalls were the amount of mosquitos and bugs. We had a horrendous amount and it made getting set up terrible in the dark. Bring bug spray! Beautiful lake, brink a kayak or SUP. Amenities were basic but still a great location outside of the park!

Fantastic location for Yellowstone exploration

My wife and I stayed here for a week over Memorial Day weekend. It was in the mid 30’s at night but nice and sunny during the days. We tent camped, and there were first come first served sites available. We stayed in the last loop, loop D and had our pick of at least 15 sites. They’re large and separated decently enough from other sites. Vault toilets at either end of the loop and water sources available every third site. Camp hosts were incredibly kind and always available. The way also sell firewood to save you the trip into town.

We drove into Yellowstone every day, you’re only about 10-15 minutes from the west gate!

The lie is nearby and really pretty, morning or evening walks are nice! Plenty of wildlife around, we had some deer walking through camp just past us while eating. Very friendly. No bear sightings, but they are in the area. Utilize bear boxes! The RV areas were packed and were generally louder with a lot of children but the dry camping sites were far less crowded. Loved this clean, quiet, well located campground!

Ranger review of the Primus Micron Lantern at Rainbow Point campground

Nice clean campground– but don't forget the DEET

Rainbow Point Campground and boat launch is a large nicely wooded and extremely clean campground. The campground contains 83 sites in four loops. Loops B& C have electricity. This is by far the cleanest most well kept campground I have stayed out. Clean nice smelling vault toilets(yes that's right, no smell in those vault toilets), the campsite had been cleaned and raked, the metal fire rings we cleaned out, not evidence of a fire could be seen, any burnt wood from the previous camper was removed, and the picnic table appeared to be cleaned as well. While the sites are not on the lake, it is just a short walk to the beach for those wanting to swim or do a little fishing. Sites can reserved so finding a spot in this campground so close to Yellowstone took some work. The trick if you do not have a reservation is to carefully read the post to see if it is actually reserved for that night. I stayed in the D loop, all the sites had reserved signs on them, however three of the sites were not reserved for the night of my stay. Water spigot can be found in all the loops. At the entrance you can find a recycling station. Fire wood is available for purchase from the campground host. If you plan on camping at Rainbow point be prepared to donate blood, the mosquito's are bad, especially mid day, so bring plenty of DEET and make a campfire, the smoke will really help. While the camp host do a great job at keeping the place clean and are friendly, just wish they would have done a late night run though the campground as their was one campsite at the far end of the loop which had kids up running around being loud past midnight. Actually think if was several family's hanging out together as at 1 am could here some leaving for their campsites in other loops, could over hear the conversation of one group walking back asking another in a car if they could drive their kids back for them so they didn't have to walk back.

Ranger Review of Primus Micron Lantern

I really like the Primus micron lantern, it is nice to be able to bring a lantern backpacking. The Micron lantern is so light weight and small it is easy to tuck in to a pack. The lantern puts out a lot of light, making it perfect for backpacking or front country camping. The Piezo igniter makes lighting an easy, a click or two and you have instant light. The attached cable allows you to hang the lantern from a tree branch, which is handy when no suitable rocks or bare ground is available. The metal mesh globe is a nice feature, don't have to worry about breaking the globe while on a trip. Two backpacking trips and numerous car camping trips and this little lantern is running perfectly with no signs of wear. This is differently a must for backpacking trips, a big thumbs up for the Primus Micron Lantern.

Nice campground near Yellowstone National Park

This is a nice Forest Service campground with 4 loops and 83 sites. It is very tidy, with raked, wooded sites, clean fire pits and plenty of clean vault toilets. About half of the sites have electric and water faucets are plentiful. Tip: the water faucet near the info board right when you come in is threaded for water hose, fill up your freshwater tank here on the way in. Some sites are reservable through recreation.gov. Big rigs do fit in some of the sites, it is a mix of small and large rigs in this park. The road in is unpaved, it had been graded with few potholes as of the time this review was written. The lake is lovely with American pelicans, ospreys and more. Kayaks and SUP are available to rent from the camp hosts, and there is a boat launch as well. Lots of people bring boats and fish in the lake.

It was pretty dark when I got in...

So I can only say I'm fairly certain this is where I was. Nice, right? Well it was either this one or cabin creek or something about a Beaver. Whaddaya gonna do?

Got aced at all the campgrounds at Jellystone so joined a caravan of other desperate souls seeking somewhere to rest. This one had openings and I enthusiastically snagged one.

The camp host was up & helping folks get situated so that seemed good. I didn't get eaten by a bear - double bonus! In the morning, I stopped by the lake nearby and took the pic associated w/my review. It's not at the campground - but same general area.
