Arkabutla Lake
Overview
Hernando Point Recreation Area sits along Arkabutla Lake and Dam in the hills of northwest Mississippi. The dam project is on the Coldwater River and offers some of the best sailing east of the Mississippi River.
Recreation
Families come to Arkabutla Lake to enjoy the great outdoors by fishing, boating, swimming, hiking and biking. Wildlife management areas around Arkabutla Lake boast a combined 30,000 acres of public hunting lands where whitetail deer, wild turkeys, quail and waterfowl roam. Several trails wind around the lake and throughout the nearby landscape. The Coldwater River Nature Trail System encompasses two hiking trails as well as an interpretive trail that helps educate hikers on the wildlife and ecosystem. The Swinging Bridge Nature Trail is also nearby, and includes a section of land that was part of the river prior to the dam being built. This trail is also an interpretive educational trail. Thousands of people each year visit Arkabutla Lake to go fishing. The lake is home to several species of native fish to Mississippi waters, such as largemouth bass, bream, catfish and crappie.
Facilities
This year-round campground offers 83 family sites and one group day-use shelter, all with electric hookups. Amenities like flush toilets, showers and drinking water provide a comfortable camping experience for guests.
Natural Features
The campground is situated on the waterfront, among rolling hills forested with a shady mixture of oak, hickory, beech, sweet gum and birch trees.
Nearby Attractions
The Lost Indian Spring Disc Golf Course is just below the Arkabutla Dam near Pratt Road. The course has 18 holes and is free to the public. Nice Peaceful Campground
We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a great view of the lake from our site. Bathroom and Shower house felt clean. There were a lot of gnats on the sink counter but something I would expect from outdoor bathrooms so not a big deal. We did not see any type of park rangers or attendants on our stay. The only problem that may have solved was when we arrived at 5:00pm, our spot was reserved starting at 4:00pm, there was still someone parked in our spot. I kindly let them know we had the space reserved and they said ok and left within 20 min. Not a big deal just inconvenient. If they wouldn’t have left I’m not sure how the situation would have been resolved with no attendants. We drove around the rest of the campground and there were a lot of great spots with views. I did see a small swing set and basketball goal in a field but no real playground for kids. I did not see any walking trails or any activities but you can walk around at the lake. So if you have kids you may want to bring bikes, games, and other things to do. The campground stayed pretty quiet the whole time. At the front of the campground you do get slightly more traffic and noise of other campers coming in and out so if you want more privacy and quietness the back of the campground would be a little better I’m sure. Everyone we encountered waved, drove slow, and seemed friendly tho so we didn’t mind.
We will definitely be back to stay here again and look forward to it!

Great views!
We had a site right on the lake, with plenty of shade and full hook ups. Beautiful scenery and quiet.
Nice campground near Memphis
Decided to find a close, full hookup campground to do a shakedown trip on our new rig. Wanted a water vies, so we decided to try this place out. Spaces are all extremely level, some longer than others. Picnic area and fire pits are all kind of randomly placed. Some are in a good spot on the camp side of the trailer, but a few are on the complete wrong side of the camper. Recently updated to full hookup sites for all sites. They are nice connections as well. They were installing a new lift station to keep up with the demand after heavy spring rains proved to be too much for the last one.
Bathrooms are older but clean.
Only real complaint is that after heavy rains, there is standing water everywhere. Some sites are almost unusable with a mote all the way around you.
All in all, it’s a great place to get away… especially for full hookups at Corps prices.
Overnight stay
Enjoyed a quick, cost effective, full hookup overnight stay. Reserved same day thru recreation.gov app. Site was marked and had fair amounts of room to back in. Site was level enough without having to add any blocks. Site 1 dips down on the entry side where the picnic table and fire pit was located, so not much room to put down any outdoor items close to the rig. View was beautiful but the shoreline is a little tricky to get to. Good shade coverage and the area appeared to be cleaned and maintained. Large grass area for our fur babies to enjoy and explore. Only downside was Verizon coverage was unreliable and spotty without a booster or external antenna. Sometimes 1 bar and had about 3 to 5 down with .1 to .5 up when using the antenna, had a zoom call that lasted for an hour without issue. Without the antenna, it was hit and miss with several dropped calls. Some spots may vary more with service. Would visit again.
Camper access
Big lots with full camper and everything hookups and recently updated sewer system. Very clean and incredible views.
Very nice Army Corp of Engineers park
The campground recently installed sewer lines throughout the campground, so the sites are now full hookups.
Hernando Point
We enjoyed staying so close to the water. We fished right from the bank (must have a MS license). The water, electric, and sewer hook-ups are very close to the site. The picnic, grilling, and fire pit area is nice. The parking area is only wide enough fir the camper. It would be nice to have a paved space under our awning. We were disappointed in the amount of trash along the bank of the lake. We picked up an entire trash bag full when we arrived and more throughout the weekend. Overall it was a great trip and we will be back.
Also, the beach area down the road at the boat ramp is closed for construction. It will be nice when it reopens.
Long weekend trip
Our site is right on the lake with a great fishing spot. The area for grilling and eating and fire pit is nice. The electric, water, and sewer hookups are very close. The parking area is not very wide. Only wide enough for the camper. I wish there was a better are for enjoying time under the awning. I was disappointed in the trash located along the bank of the lake. We cleaned up an entire trash bag full an then more along the way. Overall it’s a great campground and we would stay here again.
Construction
Had to leave due to people in my booked site that wouldn’t leave. Half the sites are under construction. Bathroom was old and not in good shape. Glad I could move to another lake campground
Great for families
Loved camping so close to the water! Clean, nice facilities. Not the best swimming hole, but great for boats and paddling!
Very nice
Nice and clean. Well kept. Plenty of shady spots with lake views very quiet also. Will be back
Nice place
This is a decently maintained campground. The hosts are polite and the sites are well kept. The swim area is not disability friendly for access (steep hill). The real secret to this campground is the city of Hernando! Adorable Main Street dynamic with fantastic food and fun shops. We camp here very often. My only issue is that the bathrooms are dated and could use some maintenance but they are by no means gross/unusable.
Nice, clean campground!
The COE has been working on upgrading different sections of the campground at this location! It's nice to see places put money back into their campgrounds! The bathrooms are older, but well maintained and very clean. They don't have the typical amenities of a State Park, but this is a great weekend getaway location. The camping is slightly cheaper as well. A local group has worked hard to establish a few walking trails. We didn't get to check the trails out due to Spring flooding. The lake was also extremely high, but that is typical in the Spring. Not sure what happened, but the campground lost water pressure when we were there. They had someone on site early Sunday morning to repair the problem once it was discovered. There is a playground in the day use area, but not the camping area. There is a basketball court behind one of the bathrooms that several kids were using. We also had a large open field next to our campsite to play frisbee and wiffle ball.

Great get away
We love this place! Clean, and quiet, with good sized sites.
Lake views with water & electric
We only stayed one night, and moved on. We were just passing through. Lots of sites are waterfront. There were lots of trails available, but we didn't have time to explore. Each site has electric and water, but still only $20.
Hernando Point
Amazing view from site #31! They unexpectedly lost power Labor Day weekend to the campground and do not know when it will be restored. Lots of waterview spots and plenty of private wooded spots. Clean bathrooms. Swim beach, day use area and boat ramp is near by.
Edit: Power has been restored.
Camped with Family
Had a huge spot with lots of shade. only complaint was there was no playground in the actual camping area.
Beautiful Views
Great sites.
Beautiful lake setting! Great sites well maintained and friendly staff.
Very reasonably priced included water and electric.
Great experience
Very clean restrooms and shower areas. Site had grill, fire ring, and picnic table. Water and electric hookup
No Frills - Worth checking out though!
The campground sits off of Lake Arkabutla and has 80+ water/electric sites. The lake was low, low, low. As there were only about 5 other campers there, we had our choice of sites! Although we could have had a waterfront site, we chose 75 as it was quite large and private. It's a nice campground but one that does not appear to be utilized much. It's a little off the beaten path and it is not near any attractions (which was fine with us). It seems that this is one of the campgrounds that has suffered due to budget cuts. It's a no frills type of park and, because of the lake level, swimming is currently banned. It looks like it could be a great place to call home when the lake levels are up.
