Overview

Whiteface Reservoir Campground offers an ideal getaway for anglers, boaters and families. The provided swim beach, playground and five picnic areas offer hours of entertainment, and the scenery provides a relaxing backdrop for the day's activities.Superior National Forest, located in northeastern Minnesota's arrowhead region, is comprised of 3 million acres. The forest spans 150 miles along the United States-Canada border. Visitors can find recreation opportunities year-round, including travel in the famous Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Recreation

A boat launch located at the campground provides access to the great walleye, panfish and northern fishery in the reservoir. The fish cleaning house next to the boat launch gives anglers the chance to clean their fish in time for lunch at the picnic area. Children will have a great time playing on the playground and on the small, sandy beach. There are also 2.5 miles of hiking trails within the facility.

Campsites are in a mixed forest including aspen, birch and maple. The reservoir provides 4,980 acres of calm, clean waters. Numerous species of birds and wildlife inhabit the area.

Numerous outdoor recreation opportunities lie within Superior National Forest's 77 lake accesses, 13 fishing piers, 10 swimming beaches and 22 picnic areas. Whiteface Reservoir Campground, MN: (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good (70 yr olds in 17’ trailer) We are only here for 1 night. So, we this is not as thorough campground examination as I’d do if we were here longer. However, the campground is near excellent, with water access near by and at some sites.
Overall Rating: 4.7 Price 2023: $13 and &14 per site with the Lifetime Senior Pass. From the entry kiosk information, it appears that some sites have electricity available at an extra charge.
Usage during visit: 75% full during midweek. Site Privacy: Many sites have a picnic table in a nice, private nook. Site Spacing: SUPERB Site surface: Gravel and pretty level. Reservations: Yes. On Rec.gov, any sites which are available for the 4 days out are listed as first come first serve. We had a few to choose from upon arrival. Looks like first come first serve sites with reservation dates falling within the 4 day first come first serve window have a reservation card hanging. Therefore, we knew how many days the first come first serve sites were available, as we drove by the sites and read their card. Campground Noise: Quiet Road Noise: Absolutely none.
Through Traffic in campground: No problem Electric Hookup: Some sites Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: No Potable Water Available: Yes, there is a spigot in each loop. Generators: Allowed Bathroom: Pit toilets, clean to perfection Showers: No Pull Throughs: I only saw back in sites. Cell Service (AT&T): Spotty internet , 1 bar.
Setting: In a wooded deciduous forest.
Weather: Very nice.
Bugs: Hungry mosquitoes. Solar: Minimal to none.
Host: EXCELLENT. This host provides exceptionally clean sites and bathrooms, expresses kindness and helpfulness, and drove by our site after we arrived at sunset, to make sure we were fine. Super guy. Rig size: Large rigs are fine. Carefully check rec.gov info for each site. But, no worries.
Sites: Lots of great sites. Ours, 17, does not have direct access to the water. Some sites do, which would be handy for canoes. (Sorry, I’m not here long enough to investigate more thoroughly.)

Great Campground

This is a great campground, basic facilities, but the campsites are far enough a part, and are fairly large. The one down side is that this campground is really not very close to many hikes. I would definitely consider this a fishing campground, and would recommend bringing a boat if you are able, so that you can fish in the nearby area.

Whiteface Reservoir

My husband and I camped here over the 4th of July weekend with our entire family. We loved the campsites as the sites where spacious and seemed more secluded with all the trees. We loved how wooded the sites where as it felt more like camping and provided more privacy. The campground was pretty and very well kept. The sites vary in size so I would recommend driving around the loops to check them out to see which one would fit your best camping needs for your RV/Tents. We always do this as we like to know which sites to get the next time we camp here. We got the last two first come first serve non electric sites as it was over the 4th of July so we actually got lucky to get a site at all. We used generators as it was almost 100 out the entire week we camped. The campground asks for generators to be turned off I believe between 10-10:30pm.

We spent most of our time at the beach and in the lake as swimming was a must this week due to it being so hot out. We brought our lily pad to use out on the water which was a big hit for everyone in our group.

The tent sites where amazing they were full of trees for more of feel of actual roughing it camping. The best part of this campground is the tent site area has their own beach area which was amazing for all the kids in our group. The hosts were very informational and even delivered ice and firewood if you needed more! This was a huge perk as this campground has so many loops and our group camped in RV sites and Tent Sites.

The beach area was very clean and boat launch was nice. Very friendly hosts as each loop has hosts assigned which was convenient. The lake is huge just had to be careful as this was our first time at this lake and since the water levels where down the sand bars were more noticeable then usual as locals stated. We plan on coming back to this campground it was very clean and well kept.
