Old Home is aged, but still a hidden gem

Located very close to Bardstown and a lot of distilleries on the bourbon trail, the campground is great, very small fills up fast. Like most Kentucky state parks be prepared for required extensions to your power and water hoses because with exception of a couple of sites everything is at least 30 to 36' away from your hook up. Beware of site 19 and the site next to the dump station because on the map it looks far away but in reality as you can see in the pictures it is right on top one another and creates congestion on Sunday morning during checkout.

ONLY if you have to

Gave it 2 stars only because of Bardstown & distilleries proximity. Not a level site to be found in this small park. As in most Kentucky parks the electric & water poles are 1 to 2 extension cords away. Again BRING PLENTY of BLOCKS!

ATT & Verizon were both usable.

Sites packed extremely close together

We reserved an electric site at this campground to be near Louisville and Bourbon distillery tours. However we left and drove late into the night to reach another place to camp because this one was so disappointing. Sites were crammed close together. The picnic table for one site was right next to the picnic table for the next. There was barely room for our teardrop and SUV in the driveway. There’s no scenic view. The bathhouse is loud. The electric and water hookups were WAY too far for our cord and hose to reach.

Can’t beat the location for a bourbon experience

Although we agree with the other reviews, this park needs some updating, we enjoyed our time here. The location can’t be beat for exploring this part of the bourbon trail. Our site, #22, worked for us. We did see that some sites had funky and inconvenient water and electric hookups. But the website is good on that, look closely. The park was pretty empty and there wasn’t much presence of a camp host, even though one appeared to be there. And our fire pit had a bunch of trash and glass in it (why are we seeing that so often these days?!?). We would stay here again if in the area.

Simple and Small

I did not add a transcript to the video please turn on the Live captions within the accessibility settings of your Google Chrome browser.

The park itself where the camping happens is actually pretty small as in one loop.  We never saw a park representative. We were there on a weekday and we also did not interact with a host at the camp ground. It was very low key. It is right in town and by the main road so you will hear road noise.

It is also right next to a golf course. We hung out on the golf porch after hours enjoying the rocking chairs. We also drove by several of the local distilleries.  The next morning we had donuts in town before we hit the road to our next campsite. https://www.hadornsbakery.com/

We didn't see any hiking trails but it is interesting to notice that they have a dog/bark park across the street that you can pay for access to for you and your 4 legged friend.

Information taken from https://parks.ky.gov/bardstown/parks/historic/my-old-kentucky-home-state-park

The primitive campsites by the main road do not even show up on the map or on the state's website.  I am not sure how one would go about camping in the grassy area by the playground as they were nice spots.

The real reason why we came to the campground is because nearby is https://bernheim.org/  This was a wonderful place to hike and spend the day.  We also got to see the forest giants.   They recommend a donation of $10.00 per car and it was well worth it.

Fun in Bardstown

My Old Kentucky Home State Park Campground is a small campground, clean, and friendly staff. There is a golf course on site. Plenty to see, including My Old Kentucky Home, the tour was amazing. Scout & Scholar Brewery was great. We will be back to spend time strolling the streets of Bardstown and taking a Distillery Tour. The campground is close to everything. There is a railroad museum in New Haven, KY

Bring level blocks!!

This used to be a great little place to go for a weekend getaway but not so much anymore. There are only one or two spots in the campground even close to level. The showers are clean and the whole camp is close to every store, distillery and restaurant you would want. Plan accordingly.

My Old Kentucky Home State Park Campground

This campground was our Maiden Voyage with our brand new 20201 Jayco Jay Flight 294QBS (35ft Bumper to Tongue).

We arrived late in the evening, so that added a bit of added difficulty into getting the trailer parked.

We stayed on site 25. It was a hilly site (didn't know this when booking) that had some pretty terribly placed trees for backing in a trailer. Luckily, the hubs is pretty awesome at backing a trailer and eventually got her in.

Because of the hill, leveling the TT was a task. We had to have the tongue nearly 4 ft from the ground. Thankfully, there was a Lowes near buy to go buy wood to level her better.

The campsites are really close together. Thankfully the spaces on either side of us were empty during our stay, our it would have been a bit crowded.

Make sure you have long Electric Cords and an extra long water hose, because they're not as close to the sites as it mentions on the website.

There is only one dump location and it was a zoo come check out time.

The only time I saw any actual staff at the campground was the girl going around taking down reservation slips Sunday Morning.

There is WIFI (supposedly) but we never found anyone to get the password.

Beautiful part of KY, and lots to do

This campground is in a beautiful part of Kentucky. The town of Bardstown has a lot to do and  number of great restaurants.

The campsite was great for our 34 ft class A, with 30A and water at the site. The site slope was moderate but easily leveled the motorhome.

A golf course is onsite, but a car is necessary to see the surrounding area. Visited a number of distilleries and just enjoyed the countryside.

Great place to take kids

The history is enough to make you want to come back. Feels like you stepped back in time. Gotta play the song at least once a day. Enjoy the clean amenities and revel in the history over a late night camp fire.

Small, wooded site

Very small campground and narrow roads. Many sites were not level and some sites were very short so make sure you review the site description.

Also some had sewer hook ups and others did not.

You did feel like you were in the woods so that was a plus.

Walmart and McDonalds were half a mile away.

Small but comfortable

If you are a golfer, this is the one because site 7,8 and 9 back up the clubhouse. Beautiful course with rolling hills. If you are not a golfer there nearby activities. You are in Bourbon Heaven, so pick a tour with free tastings.

Need a quiet day, stroll on the many acres of Bernheim Forest. Amazing views and easy walking paths.

There only a handful of sites with sewer but all have water and electricity.

The only bad thing is that they mow very early in the morning.

Beautiful, Wooded and Quiet

Smaller campground that has huge beautiful trees. sites are spaced out which has been really nice. Feels more like camping. Very shaded. Sites are a bit uneven and water and electric is about 40 feet away. Make sure to have levelers to handle 7+ inches. Site 28 seems to be the best. site 30 is also very nice. No activities within campground which we are enjoying this weekend but could be tough if you have kids. The Golf Course is right next door and beautiful. Located near Makers Mark and Jim Beam distilleries. So lots to do around the area and come back to a peaceful, picturesque setting.

Our MiFi has a good signal, like most cell service is a bit lacking.

Ideal and convenient

This was a very, very nice campground. I had the ‘primitive’ site for a tent without any utilities. The tent area is an open field where you can just select you own site. There are picnic tables and fire pits scattered around. Even though this site is in town, it seems very tranquil and serene. I felt extremely safe and secure in this location. The town of Bardstown is also all-American hometown at its best. The site was very reasonable, and I intend to return there again when I am passing through. I will make a detour to stay there, in fact.

Great if you like golf

There is a huge golf course that sits within the entire area. Three separate entrances. One for the amphitheater, one for the welcome center and one for camping. Would be better if the golf course wasn’t there but that’s my opinion.

Cute Little Campground

Small but well kept campground. Bathhouse is older but clean. Some sites have views of the golf course. Very friendly staff that works hard to maintain the grounds. Campground is right in the middle of town, but you will still have to drive anywhere you want to go. We toured the My Old KY Home historic house and gardens with our kids (13 & 5) and everyone enjoyed it. We stayed two nights in site 18 and it was tight backing in, even in our 23 foot Airstream, not very private but it is close to the bathhouse. The best site, in my opinion, is site 26. It is more private, has a wide pad and a little "yard" to the side. Site 20 is one to avoid. It's at the corner of the loop, across from a dumpster, right next to the bathroom AND the dump station is practically in the site. It even sits at a lower elevation than the dump station so imagine how nasty it could be on a rainy day. There are a few of pull through sites that would be good options if you are just using it as a stop over.

Works in a pinch

Has tent and RV camping. I tent camped this trip and stopped by for one night as I was passing through. Cost was about $16ish. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Tent sites are at the front of the property with the RVs to the back. Tent campsites are not defined - just an open area for all to share with picnic tables and grills scattered around. Kids playground next to it. Couldn't find the potable water for the tent area. The RVs had electric & water hookups. Showers and bathrooms available. Right next to a side road with a bit of traffic the night I stayed.

From the time you pull onto the entrance, shared with the golf entrance, you feel right at home. Campsites are a great size, plenty of shade, beautiful trees. Visitor center and gift shop available.
