High Falls State Park Campground
About
State Park
Located Northwest of Macon and great for camping near Atlanta, High Falls State Park is named for tumbling cascades on the Towaliga River. Boat rental, ramps and fishing docks provide easy access to the park’s lake, known as one of Georgia’s top fishing spots for hybrid and white bass. Overnight visitors can choose from a spacious campground or lakeside yurts, which are like canvas and wood tents. Each yurt features a small deck, picnic table and grill outside, plus furniture, electrical outlets and a ceiling fan inside. During summer, guests may cool off in the park’s swimming pool.
Visitors can hike along the river’s edge and through hilly forest to the remains of a hydroelectric power plant foundation. In the early 1800s, this area was a prosperous industrial town with several stores, a grist mill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop, shoe factory and hotel. High Falls fell from prosperity in the 1880s when a major railroad bypassed it. Today, the park is a popular camping destination and a relaxing side trip for travelers on I-75.

Quick Visit
We just stopped in for a quick one night visit on our travel north. Check in was quick and easy. Sites are not large but adequate, cute playground and a double dump station available. There is very little cell phone service- AT&T has none.

Beautiful
The park is gorgeous and well maintained. It’s a little tight in a place or two but we’re pulling a 40’ fifth wheel and had no problems. We stayed in spot 71 which was a pull through with large lot that was really nice. Fire pit, picnic table and grill as well. I’m uploading a set of maps. You definitely need them as the sites are marked nicely but the areas are not and it’s very confusing. Also if you use maps on a device make sure you add campground because there are a few other places you don’t want to go pulling a rig since the campground is in a state park. Great for hiking, biking, fishing etc. Plain on zero internet or cell coverage. I’m all about the camping adventure but I like to be able to contact the kids if needed. Overall great place.

Tilted campsite
Good bathrooms , wonderful staff, kids enjoyed the playground. Site 56 is extremely tilted and very hard to level out. Also 57 and up is a lot of the same but I believe ours is the worst
Full time traveling
We stayed at High Falls and absolutely enjoyed every moment of it. The bathhouses and laundry is easily accessible. Hot showers. A nice sensory playground right across from site 24 and next to the bathhouse. Awesome trails, and beautiful scenery. Quiet. Will definitely go back.
High falls
We stayed on the lake loop site 100. Sites are smaller on this loop and some on a grade. The dump station is across the road at the river camp loop. Lake loop sites are closer to falls and trail heads but the river camp sites are nicer IMO. Went to a local restaurant called Yahola Creek. It was amazing. Food and ambiance was excellent. Also went to local bbq place The Blind Pig which was excellent also. There is a dollar general store very close. Some good trails at the park.

Quick but decent stay
The entrance to the campground is a little odd and narrow. I have a 25 ft RV and I'm not sure how longer RVs are able to navigate getting into the campground. I stayed here for one night in early April at River Camping Area site# 48. We got here late at night so we didn't have time to explore the campground much since it was raining hard the next day. Some of the sites around me had standing water because of the hard rain. We took a short walk before it started raining and the campground seemed pleasant overall.

Nice campground
High Falls is a great campground. They have 2 sections. One by water is where we were. Nice pull thru site with shade. We were site 82, and has gravel. We rode our bikes to the other side, to see the falls. Very beautiful. Serene listening to it. Restrooms clean and park well maintained. B

River Side Campground
We found this campground on the road from MN to FL and overall enjoyed the one night. We bought wood at a small local store on the road going into site as they were closed by the time we rolled in. there's a gate code they called us with and that was easy - we camped on the river side and did not explore the other side. Our site was along the river on the map, but in reality you don't really see the river much due to vegetation. There was a lot of poison ivy along the edges of our site too. We have a 21' camper van so it was plenty big for us and easy to get into. The bathrooms were about a 5-6 minute walk up a slight hill, past a playground being put together. The shower was nice, although there was only 1 in working order when we were there. We did not explore very much except to drive to the falls on our way out the next morning - we were putting a lot of miles on each day, and I think this would be a great place to try again. We did not have phone/internet service (Verizon), which was ok for one night.
Very Nice Park on the river side
2nd trip to High Falls on river side. This side is accessed via gate code 24/7.
Site 5 is one of the 1st few on the left as you enter the camping area. So you do get a fair amount of traffic, but it's not bothersome and we enjoy people watching. The bath house is across the street and up a hill so keep that in mind if you have some mobility issues, though it's not a crazy bad hill.
The site has a good distance between the camper and it's "passenger" side so it's like not having a neighbor on that side. The river isn't visible from the site, but it's a couple hundred feet through the woods via a path. Entire site was very level and didn't take much to level the trailer. Very well shaded.
Cell phone internet is slim if at all even on Verizon. T-Mobile had trouble getting texts from this area.
Campground is well kept. They were beginning to assemble new playground equipment back in April of '22.
Dollar General is right outside the gate.
State park offers boat, kayak, and paddle board rentals at the lake side.
Note about the lake side sites: They are all at right angle drives with a small drainage ditch flanking the driveway. Plus are short sites. I would imagine it would be very tough to get my short 22' trailer in there. We drover over and I was glad we didn't stay on that side.
Beautiful scenery
This park is very nice. Lots of hills, which were not used to. Our site was close to a really clean bathhouse. Our site was a pull thru, which is always nice! Site had really nice space. We did lose power for 15 hours and water for a few hours one night. Then two days later, we lost power again for three hours. Not ideal when it’s pushing 95°. We can now say we’ve boondocked. The big falls trail was closed for renovation so we couldn’t walk out on it. We were able to see it from another trail.

Nice!
Very nice park! Lots to do within walking distance. Short trails to view the Falls and lots of history in the area. Pool was not open during our visit. Nice shower houses and felt very safe with locking gate entrance with code.

Nice campground for a weekend getaway!
We stayed in the River Camping Area - Loop D. The campground felt secluded and the sites were spacious. We enjoyed hiking Falls Trail with our two dogs and checking out some of the nearby cities - Jackson & Forsyth.
A few things to note: the internet is VERY spotty and the sites are not level. The entrance is very dark at night and the road is narrow and windy, so try to arrive before dark if you can.

First Experience
I’m in love with this campground! I’m so glad a chose this as my first. Hot showers daily. Cooked outside on the campfire for breakfast and dinner. Hiking. Beautiful views. Shade…which is big for us. A quick 15 minute walk to the convenience store. No complaints.
A New Favorite
Convenient to I-75. Great for a layover or extended camping. Liked the spacing and overall layout of campground. Modern facilities and friendly staff.
So Peaceful
Our first camping experience was at this campground. The setting was peaceful and everyone was so friendly. There are lots of things to do very close to the campground. We will definitely return.
Skoolie
I have not visited this location but wanted others with school bus conversions to know that I spoke to Betty at this location and was advised that Skoolie’s are allowed on the property!
Great 1st camping trip
We circled the wagons with 30 of our friends and had a great time in the at the end of the loop. Water and electrical worked great. Bathrooms were good and showers had good pressure. Had some woods nearby that the kids explored in. One of the sites was very low and half of the site was under water during a down pour.
Not too far!
Met some girlfriends for a weekend . Absolutely loved the hike by the falls . The campground is small and compact but neat with nice hosts.

Great park
We came to stay at river campsite. It is clean, spacious, and quite. The lake campsite can only accommodate small campers.

Beautiful falls and great recreation area.
We stayed in the back loop of the campground site #83. It was nice as there were only 3 other sites occupied on the loop. It faced the woods and we could hear an owl off in the distance and saw several different species of birds and tons of squirrels. The campground really makes you feel like you’re in the forest along some areas are not private at all. Nice campground and the bathrooms were clean. The staff came by to verify our reservations even before I could get set up as I hadn’t placed my tag on the site post. They also came by and removed our tag before we had even packed up the following morning which I felt was kinda extra. We did the falls trail and it was beautiful. Part of the trail is along the river and the rest is further in the forest. Lots of cool rocks to hike over. The trail was marked but somewhat unclear at times as you could go both ways. Definitely a great place to check out. There’s an old power plant building and plenty of day use areas and fishing.

Beautiful
Gone twice now. First time was used tents. Mid summer. Very busy, we got the last spot of the night. Clean bathrooms. Big sites. This weekend. January 23 and, 24th. First time in our new travel trailer. Big site. Plenty of room for the kids to run and play. Friendly staff and visiters. Will be going back....
Beautiful State Park
Great state park is right off busy I75 highway. It has two different campgrounds. One by the lake is very beautiful; site 112 lake front is great. The other campground is by the falls and deep in the wood. All site are large, level, and gravel. Cell phone signals might not good.
Needs some work
High falls SP, GA
Stopped here on an overnight enroute south in September . Weekday and very sparsely occupied, so it was very quiet.
After seeing both campgrounds I wish I had stayed at the upper one near the lake and dam.
The lower campground has a coded gate and was in a separate area across the street and down the road. You can hike to the lake/dam area by way of Tranquility Trail (2.5 miles).
There are basically three areas, (two loops and a circle)with two latrines. The latrine in the circle area had a washer and dryer. I did not go in the other one.
Several of the sites picnic tables and fire rings sat close together so if you don’t know your “neighbors” you will get to know them.
The other sites were good size and you have some privacy. There are big grassy area in each loop and it’s all shaded.
My site was near the river but it’s a somewhat treacherous trail down to water level. The water looked like chocolate milk and was not very inviting. I would guess there had been recent flooding and high water areas. Fishing would have been easy enough.
The staff was ..... interesting. One of the woman at the check in openly voiced her opinion about a much nicer camping area at another location. Then there was the kamikaze guy on the “golf cart” speeding crazily through the campground. I realize they don’t have speedometers, however he was going faster then 15 mph.

Clean, family friendly
This campground was a great place to spend the weekend. There are several historic hydro-electric areas to explore and scenic streams where you can skip rocks or fish. The camping area has several clean rest rooms with hot water showers. There is a camp store and rec area for the kiddos!

Beautiful scenery but noisy
Absolutely gorgeous scenery - it’s not only on a lake but also on a dam and 3+ waterfalls. The nature trails are also really interesting. The facilities are decent and it’s particularly good if you like fishing and kayaking.
Downside if you get a campsite on the side of the dam (it’s split - one side is on the lake/dam, the other is on the river/falls) - it’s right next to private housing and those are some party loving people at 2am. Their dogs also have bark battles all night long.
5 stars for the park itself. 0 stars for the neighbors.
A clean stop
The campsites are very clean, and the facilities are well taken care of. It’s relatively easy to drive a trailer into your site. The downsides are that its a bit buggy - lots of flies in particular, and the sites don’t often have grass which makes it difficult if you have a pet. WiFi signal was pretty terrible, we had a hard time working remotely with our hotspots.
Close to I-75 but still quiet
High Falls State Park is named for the cascade waterfall that flows from the lake in the park. It is a pretty good waterfall, on the Towaliga River. There is a campground with over 200 sites, with water & electric, 30/50 amp, Some are pull-thru, and a pioneer camping spot. There are also 6 lakeside yurts, with a small deck & picnic table. There is a small store and a dump station. You can rent kayaks, canoes and paddle-boards. There us also a small playground and a mini golf. The park also has swimming pool. Fishing is supposed to be big here, but I didn’t fish. Boat ramps are available.
You can hike along the edge of the waterfall, and there were people sunning and playing in the pools below the falls.
Love the Trail along the Waterfalls

Good pit stop with trails
Spent one night on the road here at a RV site on the lakeside camping area (they also offer additional entrance to river side camping.) Busy but courteous neighbors. Playground, mini golf, swimming pool (closed), and pretty clean toilets. Keep that trash far—ants love it here! Nice falls trail hike in the afternoon. Well-marked trails with some fun off shoot paths. Ordered Papa Johns right to the campsite entrance!
