Beautiful and peaceful place to get away

Stayed at site 019 for 5 nights at the end of April in a 30’ travel trailer. The site backs up to an area of low grasses, bushes and palms with tall pines nearby. There is a ranger trail the runs behind the site as well but we never saw any riding past. There is a road not far away but it’s in a suburban area and I didn’t find it to be a problem. We were usually out hiking and swimming during the day and the nights just had a low hum of far off traffic. You could still hear nature all around. The trails are absolutely gorgeous. Natural palms growing among tall pines. We saw so many deer I lost count and we could hear the males in the distance. Also spotted a young alligator walking on a trail near the spring. The gopher tortoises are out in full force in the mid afternoon. Didn’t spot a bear though. We didn’t want to leave at the end of our trip. And would’ve stayed longer if our schedules allowed. Would highly recommend.

Springs Camping

We had a great time camping here. You do have to drive to the springs from your campsite but it’s not a huge deal.

Bathrooms were nice and clean and got good cell service.

The tall pines were beautiful and you had decent amount of space from other campers.

Loud campers here! It’s a very busy state park. The bathrooms were some of the worst we’ve ever seen. However, our site was great. We hiked, went fishing, and kayaked. Great park for the amenities!

Very Good, Not Great

On our visit in January of 2019 we found the campsites and the bathrooms to be okay but not great. The sites weren't very spaced out and there wasn't a lot of trees or brush between them so privacy wasn't great, but I've seen worse and it wasn't too much of an issue.

The main attraction to this campground (and State Park) are the springs and the waterway that leads to Wekiva Island. It is great for kayaking or swimming.

The trails also seemed very fun from where I can see from the road and campground, but unfortunately I didn't get to go explore them.

Wekiwa Springs State Park Camping

This state park has good camp sites with fine hard packed sand. All sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Two circles make up the camp sites. The circle with the higher numbers are more suited to tent campers. We stayed in site 54 and 36 which were great. Bathrooms are clean. There a plenty of trails to hike and kayak trails to paddle. The swimming is okay, but the area gets busy. Wekiva Island is close by, you can paddle there for a snack and a beer. Lively crowd hanging out by the water.

Stayed for a weekend. Thought it was a nice park, clean and spacious campsite. Had good water, electric and sewage connections. My main complaint is we could definitely hear and see vehicle traffic coming from a nearby roadway, but once you get passed that, it’s a nice place. Staff was friendly.

One of the beat parks in Florida

If you can get a spot in this park…. It’s one not be missed. Close to Orlando and all the amenities it has to offer… but when you are in the park you feel miles away from anywhere. Great spring for swimming and a river for canoeing. Biggest problem is finding availability.

A very lovely park

Just finished my first two nights in wekiwa. Saw an abundance of animals including deer, a bear, and alligators. Plants and mushrooms were amazing , and caught tons of fish from the bank. Big buck has water which is nice. Plenty of space, fire pit, pack hooks, and even an old pipe to lock your bike on if that’s your fancy. Will definitely be back.

Reservation is worth it

The springs are amazing but they are so popular that you have to get there at 9 am or you won’t get in. UNLESS, you book a reservation to camp. This is the way to go. If you’re only coming for the day but you’re on the fence of staying overnight, do it. It’s worth it to be able to come and go as you please. The campsites are well maintained and the rangers are great at informing campers about bear safety.

Nice place for a fun get away.

The park is awesome. Really enjoyed the springs and kayaking. The camp site was nice with a pit and grill on site. Only complaint I have was that we’re near the airport and heard a lot of planes flying by overnight. Also heard loud cars in the area. Other than that, I’d definitely come back. Staff and rangers were so pleasant, polite, and very informative.

Urban Oasis

So this park has been so encroached upon by urban sprawl that there's a rather constant drone of traffic from the two-lane road used to access the State Park and all the neighborhoods that have been built right up to the parks boundaries. The traffic is only really audible from the campground not so much farther into the park near the spring swimming area. Even more remote is paddling down the river that flows from the spring boil. This is a busy place on summer weekends so busy the park reaches capacity sometimes as early as 10:00am as with all Fl. state parks use Reserve America for camping reservations. I give it 5 stars because the springs are phenomenal and the river is perfect. Bring 'em if you got 'em: kayaks, bikes, lawn chairs, fishing rods, bug spray but that last one is a given anywhere in Florida. Pro tip: if you have your own watercraft they will allow you to chain it up near the canoe launch which is advisable as it's quite a hike from the parking lot to the river.

Could be more disabled friendly.

Great little park with hiking and kayaking opportunities.

We stopped here for a night on our way home from Tomoka State Park. We were hoping to get the kayak's a little wet here. My wife is disabled and has problems walking. Judging by the amount of disabled parking spots, this should be an easy one. Well, we were wrong. Supposedly there is a wheelchair ramp and a lift to get into the spring. We didn't make it that far. I understand that the topography doesn't help. We made it to the concession stand near the kayak launch and had to turn around. The distance is just too far from the parking lot. We didn't even try to kayak. It's a shame, because this seems to be a great park. After all, I got a hike done with my dog. But we came here to do stuff together. That's why we got the kayak's. My wife can do that for hours. My suggestion would be to allow disabled people to drive to the kayak launch area. I saw park vehicles there, So I know there is a way. Only thing missing might be the will.

If you wanna do basic outdoorsy stuff, this is a cool spot. And don't forget to check out Without A Paddle when you're in the area.

Party Park

Unfortunately, we had a LOT of rowdy neighbors who paid little if any attention to the park rules. Quiet time is supposed to start at 11 but, frankly, I don't think rowdy time ever ended. All. Night. Long. on Friday night and spilling over into Saturday morning, Noon and night. I don't think they ever slept.

Had this been our first visit to a Florida State Park, we might not have gone on to explore a dozen other of the Florida State Parks in the area that accommodate RV's. That would have been a shame because we have enjoyed other Florida parks in the area.

If this review concerns you, try close-by Lake Louisa State Park or Lake Griffin State Park: an entirely different scene with campers who actually camp as opposed to a mob of people just looking for a place to be drunk.

About a week after we stay at a Florida park, we get a survey which asks a number of questions. One of them is "Did you feel safe?". The answer here is a resounding"NO!". I arrived right at 3PM and was set up by 4PM, before most of the drinkers arrived to spoil the scene. By 9PM I had basically pulled everything back in the RV for fear of it being stolen or shot at then stayed inside for the rest of the weekend.

There was zero social distancing, one of the best parts (up until this visit) of camping in the first place. Sites here seemed a bit closer together than other parks but that might have been just my reaction to the scene and those spoiling it for others.

I had two other bookings in the future for this park which I have canceled. There are just too many great parks in the Florida system. This is not one of them.
