Nice campground in a beautiful area
Stayed here with our escapod (teardrop) camper. Beautiful location with a nice level spot. Pit toilets were clean and stocked. Picnic table and fire ring in the site.
Nice stop for the night
We were just looking for a place to pull in for the night while passing through. This is a nice campground although you will hear the traffic from the road that goes by. It is nicely wooded with clean outhouses. Was perfect for us.
Beautiful!
Nice little Campground. It was quiet until the camp host fired up his open frame generator next site over. The listing showed a dump station and water. It has neither.
Convenient Forest Campground off Rabbit Ears Pass Highway
Convenient forest service campground off highway 40 at rabbit ears pass. First come first serve but there were still a handful of sites open on a Friday afternoon in August. There was not running water at the campsite when we visited, but had pit toilets, trash, picnic tables, firepits, and trails nearby. Lots of downed trees to collect firewood. Great access to nearby hikes

Dispersed across road
Meadows campground was closed but the dispersed camping across the road was free and spots available. There were some mosquitos but it was quiet and lots of room between sites where I was
Dispersed on Otherside
Dispersed camping available on forest road on other side of the road if campground is full or you don’t want to pay.
Beautiful but loud
The campground is beautiful but most sites are fairly close to the highway. Pretty loud at night. A moose wandered by one evening. The scenery and convenient location to steamboat outweigh the road noise issue.
Solid Walk-In Campground for Easy Resting
I was wandering from Yellowstone/Tetons en route to Colorado Springs when I reach a necessary point for rest. After trying my luck near Steamboat, I glanced through FCFS campgrounds close by and found Meadows. It’s just off the highway, really easy to bypass if you aren’t paying much attention, but it upheld as a quite space to rest. Even driving in at 1am, there were plenty of spaces available.
The grounds includes a bathroom facility and spaces for both tent and RV camping. The grounds is relatively inexpensive for the beautiful space that it is located. Definitely saved me from getting to restless on the ride through.
Great site just off 40
Found this site using this app - just off 40 (opposite side of road than in the Dyrt map) and super easy to find at 10pm at night. Rolled into a site in my sprinter, put up the shades, and went to sleep. Left before the sun came up so I really have no idea what it looks like - but the pit toilets work, lots of people there - was lucky to find an open spot.
Shaded spots just off the main road
We pulled off Route 40 at 7pm on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend and were able to nab the last camping spot. Each campsite has a place for 2 cars, a picnic table, flat places for 2-3 tents, and a fire ring with an adjustable grill. Plenty of shady trees to hang your hammock from and enough space between campsites to give you some privacy. There were many RV's and family groups set up when we camped, though noise was not an issue.
Sites are $10/night payable by cash or personal check at the entrance. There are campground hosts just as you drive in, though they were not present the night we visited. Two different park rangers came by to check on all sites in the morning (payment and fire safety, I believe). Campground offers 2 pit toilets and a trash dumpster at the entrance.
The site is close enough to the road that you can hear when cars go by, especially when they drift onto the rumble strips (which happens frequently). Bring headphones if you're a light sleeper.

Visiting steamboat springs all the nearby state parks and private campgrounds were full but there was plenty of sites open here. Many of the campsites have a slight slope/grade and require a little imagination to find a level spot to put up a tent but overall not bad. Plenty of trees for tarps.
